snowball arena was genius (attn: anet)
just in case anybody from anet reads here, just wanted to say that the snowball arena was a blast --- my first gw pvp, and I played it all day sunday.
even forgot to eat.
great way to hook people on pvp and have fun at the same time.
but if you do another, maybe you could implement dp during the match, so there's a little more incentive to fight.
as it is, it's sometimes better to just die than use the snocone, and combat is really pointless.
just erase the dp after each match.
ps
I'd hate to have to wait another year for one of these, so what are the chances of you guys doing a st patrick's day arena?
instead of presents, you have to grab up random ales.
or, maybe one side plays as leprechauns and you have to grab up the lucky charms.
instead of dp, you get the equivalent of a spiked eggnog on you for each death.
here are some possible skills:
bare knuckle brawl - base attack
luck o' the irish - next attack is crit, or maybe dazes the opponent, or sth
potato famine - foe and adjacent foes suffer degen
keep 'em coming! - shout, adjacent foes suffer spiked eggnog effect
projectile vomit - ranged disruption
where's the bathroom?! - shout, you move 10% faster for 10 seconds
endless parade - slows adjacent foes
ira delivery - death nova
feel free to use any of this -- no copyright involved.

lol I think Anet plans out everything wayyy before hand, they probably already everything they want ready to go or at least in the process. Btw, I agree that the snowball fights are great, but sometimes seems kinda uneven.

It'd be stupid to implement DP in snowball fights IMO... It'd become pointless to play after you'd die twice or something...Leading to a lot of players just leaving the fight before the end of it.
AND as I use a Necro, one of the special they put for this class needed 100% health sacrifice... That'd mean I'd get DP everytime using it... I think it was cool just the way it was.

yeah, well they can be super uneven when a couple of your team quit.
maybe anet should implement a feature to make people keep playing once they're in the arena.

yeah, I already thought of that one.
instead of suicide nova, they could maybe make it death nova, or sth like that.
and it wouldn't be pointless to play because the other team would die, too.
the only problem would be when you're up against much better players and the deaths are completely lopsided --- but that's no different than the 5-0 matches you have now.

Snowball arena was pretty fun... but the people I played with totaly ruined everything... i think they used a skill called "Ward against fun" or something because they were really bossy and took all the fun out of the snowball fight. Anet should do something to make people actualy care about having fun over winning

Snowball arena was a lot of fun. Having the health and energy all equal was a good idea. This was the coolest part of the Wintersday event. The fireworks after the avatars appeared and bestowed hats comes in second for me.

The snowball fight was awesome. The thing that made it or ruined it was the people you were playing with.
Personally I thought the skill sets were pretty even between all the classes and the two sides. I also think that it was a good call to disable the dp for the snowball fight. It would have caused a lot of problems (thats just my thoughts).

that makes absolutely no sense.
anyway, dp would make it much better because it would add a whole 'nother layer to it, and make the close matches even more exciting.
as it is, fighting is pretty much discouraged because there is no incentive -- in fact, there is actually a disincentive.
w/dp, you'd have the option of pk'ing to soften the other side, and the targets would be forced into combat to defend themselves.
the close matches would be better because near the end of a 4-4 tie, both sides are weakened and it'd be that much easier to kill a carrier and change possession.
I don't think I'd want to see 15%, though --- maybe 8-10, and let the players work it off, or have it wear off like in pve, so you'd have a chance to dig out a little.

I actually asked you to explain the statement you made. The thing is, it made the newbies (people in ascalon) able to play snowball fights because it wouldn't be horribly unbalanced (a 200 HP newbie with newb armour and weapons vs a 600 HP warrior at level 20 with max dmg "perfect" sword and armour so heavy that it'd squash the poor newb if he tried to wear it). It made it 500HP newb vs 500HP level 20 aforementioned warrior.

How do you propose to do that? Disable Alt-F4?

IMO they should replace the Ascalon arena with Snowball arena, and/or put a snowball arena in pre-searing, as an easy introduction to PvP. And of course disable XP/faction, to avoid it becoming another newbie-ganking-ground.

the snowball fight was great.. it's first arena where low level players could compete with high level players- eom probably did'nt even play the arena.. he does'nt get it
what made it fun is the mix in levels (I lagged out the next match- was d/l torrents.. I bet we coulda went on forever was a pretty good team)
my favorite part of wintersday.. the grenths were dropping gifts and killing everyone.. that was something to see lol

Yes great job ArenaNet on putting together the snowball fight! I think it's awesome that you went to the trouble of creating a whole new arena with new rules, skills, and animations simply for "Wintersday."
