Originality is overrated in game design. Give people something new and they will just as often end up screaming about how much they preferred the old classics as they would complaining about originality if you gave them more of the same.
What is important is how the class plays and whether it is balanced or fun, not whether the concept is somehow original or not.
Originality of concept really has no bearing on how enjoyable the class will make or not make the game, even for most of the people crying here - IMHO, of course.

they did the same thing to diablo...
put a Goth girl in game so all the horny lil boys have a new thing to slobber over...
FYI
even in a fantasy based game is HIGHLY unbelieveable any "assassin" type charicter would JOIN A PARTY.......
an assassin by genre wouldnt be socializing and finding " smelly warrior /monks" to join up with...
...same crap bugged me with the LOD expansion in diablo... really... a skinny pale ASSASSIN gonna team up with a PALADIN.............
same kinda crap with WoW I guess... on no wait... the humans and orcs dont form parties ...
Please make FATHONABLE charicters...
least a necromancer you can look at and say " okay your an odd duck with all the blood and death stuff, but in a world of mezmers and elementalists barely dressed with boobs swinging.. I can buy it"
but an assassin whos job by definition is KILLING, rather discretly, other humans... aint exactly the person you want hanging out with loud mouthed cynn...
but you know if we are REALLY gonna stretch the bound to apease the overtly repressed male teen population...
how about you satiate us old guys and give us Jamie Lee Curtis cut sceens in the buff....Id entertain a monthly fee for that.... beat a cell phone commerical hands donw...

Assassins should be dual wielding, but the armor of a ranger minus the elemental bonus so lets say 70+10 vs physical and as they wont have a shield theres no more armor bonus but they should get a fair ammount of stances as it seems like it makes more sense that way if they have plenty of evades, the 2 weapons should be similar damage to a normal one, such as two 13-20 swords

Looks interesting enough... I guess my ranger can have a fun secondary now.... hell I'll prolly make an assassin primary.
I'm guessing that in the first few weeks / month of Chapter 2 one of two things could happen:
Practically everyone will make a new character with one of these new professions and every other profession will become obsolete for a week or so until everyone realises a mixed team is required
OR
People won't want to make a new char, being unsure how the new profession will act... hell there might hardly be anyone making new characters...
Or maybe I'm just full of BS.... xD

Lmao. Why are all you guys against an Assassin? Why are you guys asking for originality when we have Warriors, Rangers, and Elementalists and it would probably be shunned as different anyway? What's wrong with an Assassin joining a party? Where does it say she'll be joining Cynn's jolly crew? If an Assassin is so good she doesn't have to join a party, do you think she'd be in Guild Wars, a game that emphasizes balance?
/sigh. A lot of people asked for a Rogue/Assassin type at every single forum I've been to. ANet answered.

I'd love to see Assasins having a skill to temporary hold an enemy, such as a mesmer blackout...

I'm looking forward to see how Anet balances this profession in PvP and PvE. I sure hope it doesn't mean they have to change the stats of the other existing ones.

Hmmm, mixed feelings about it. I did not liked the Assassin in the diablo expansion: Actually I never like to play chr's that need to sneak and set traps. So it all depends on how its worked out. But than... Assassins wont wield giant swords I suppose I hope the other new chr. is some kind of pally

Now. you all know me. you all know that i ahev been rather against Assassins in the sardilac. unorigional i said.
a good point has been raised. NONE of the classes are origional. it is almost impossible. any class you happen to make i could simply say Dungeons and Dragons anyone?
so i look towards the assassin now with open eyes and an open heart. personally i love the background of assassins. i love the style.
also. ninjas are not assassins. think more along the lines of Hashishin for assassins. from the middle east. took Hashish before going after their prey.

Ok, why is everyone talking about dual weilding, armor levels, etc, when we have no idea what they're going to be? Anet is going to come up with something totally different from anything we can think of. There's no point in debating the overpoweredness of something we KNOW NOTHING ABOUT yet.

With chapter 2, you think we will be able to make more than 4 caracters, say like 6 or 8?
I wouldn't mind makin an assasin, but I don't wanna delete my other Pve caracters (Got 3 lvl 20 Pve, and one spot for Pvp)

gives me just enoff time to lv up 150 more times (just incase they add a secret 2nd profession, if each has 80skills like the Elementalist)
once I get back home... and figure out how to murder steam; create private LAN games...(I wont do research here...)

Hey there everyone,
This assassin idea could be pretty good, if it's made well enough. Again, we'll all have to just wait and see.
And remember, a lot of us got a lot of what we expected with these following classes in Guild Wars:
Warrior
Ranger
Necromancer
Mesmer (Except for the name)
Monk
Elementalist
All it would take to make Assassin interesting, is if it had just a tiny bit of non-originality to it.
I predict that the Assassin will allow primary classes other than Warrior or Rangers to decently fight with close attacks, and fairly effectively as a secondary...possibly offering a set of spells that the caster classes can also benefit from.
Repositioning attacks would be cool. Possibly to throw-back of some sort with a built in knockdown to get a melee class off an important ally, or flying jump-kicks, to close the distance and resist kiting?
Also, if the Assassin was giving adrenaline based long distance attack skills, we'd see a lot more long-range warrior primaries, which could be interesting.
As for a primary, if the Assassin was given a sort of stealth skill or abilities involving speed, this could add a lot of tactical advantages to pvp, and break up the damage game that has been being played for months.
And sorry for the long winded post, but I feel it's also feasible to offer an elite that instantly defeats one opponent, such as this.
Slaughter: (Elite Skill) 20 Energy, 10 second cast time, 120 second recharge. Lose all enchantments, active skills, stances, and preparations. Target loses life equal to (90%-110%) of your maximum Health. If target dies, all your skills are disabled for (35-10 seconds, scaled by attribute rank). If target survives, target gains 10 health regeneration for (35-10, scaled by attribute rank) seconds. After using this skill, you lose all energy.
That's what it would be if all the bases were covered, prevented abuse.
Anyway, thanks.

Because its highly unlikely that they are going to rework how the core game works just to make the new professions fit. Juding from the existing mechanics it wouldnt be difficult to make the existing classes obscelete or making the new characters redundant. This goes beyond the very likely cross class combinations like combining expertise with the new skill options from those professions to create a greater imbalance than what existed before within the class its self.

What makes you think that would be feasible, especially if it was only available in a certain area like most elites are?
But yeah, I'm not opposed to the ass class as such, its just really annoying to see something that hundreds of people suggest in an annoying way without searching for actually make it into the game while more thought out stuff gets missed and forgotten.
