How to tell if you're in a BAD Guild
When you ask for guildies to help you get past THK, Elona, etc, they tell you "STFU Noob, PVE is dead".
When playing Tombs or GVG, only the "best" players play, meaning that several players that want to participate sit around with their thumbs up their ass - over and over.
Lots of swearing, yelling, threatening to quit, etc over TS when the team fails to win HoH.
Leadership are hypocrites, expecting players to help each other, yet do nothing for anyone themselves except brag about what rank they are and how many sigils they own.
And yes, I was in a Guild that exhibited ALL of these traits.

You know you are in a good guild when they keep clean on Team Speak, and dont sing about there ,Ehe, parts...
————
You know you are in a bad guild if they do, and there are more then 15 people in the guild.
You also know you are in a bad guild if the guild leader makes you pay taxes.
-If over 45% of them scam
-If they kick people because they are not "GOOD" enough
-If the guild name is racist
-If one or more members ask for your password (Never give your password out to anybody.)
-If the guild recruits with public messages
-If the officers dont help the members
-If the officers dont kick troublesome members
-If your guild is not polite to the other guilds (Winning or losing) in GvG or Tombs.

A good guild:
-Let's you GvG within the first week(assuming you gave them a chance to see that you are competant).
-organizes Tombs runs while not GvGing.
-has a web-site to set up times so that everyone can be on at similar times.
-will let people play as long as they are competant at the job they are being assigned.
-will outcast people that do nothing but jump online and expect everyone to drop everything so they can get run to some stupid town that hench can take you too.
Bad Guild members:
-say things like let's just f*cking go while forming a team for GvG/Tombs.
-admit they suck at PvE, and want to get run everywhere.
-ask for money within the first week of membership.
-try to change builds to suit thier skill selection/level of play.
-cry when they don't participate in guild activities, except for GvG night where they get ignored (due to lack of activity).
-complain about not being invited to anything, but hear people looking for people in Vent and don't speak up.
I know there are more.

THK kicking your butt? Seven Guildies stop what they’re doing to help.
Tired of being lvl 6? You receive several offers to power-level your character.
Need to cap that one last skill? More people than you need offer to help.
75% or better of the players are on every night.
There are NO cliques, everyone is equally accepted into any outing.
How do you know if you’re in a bad Guild?
Anyone?

It's a shame I have never been in one of these Guilds you speak of. Oh well, maby someday I shall. Thanks for your list though hehe, 100% on what I think is a good guild. To me a Guild is like a little online family, you need to help eachother and make sure everyone is having a good time.

Same here. I played Lineage about 3 years and had a great pledge there. A couple guys decided to play GW and wanted the pledge to come and play so I did. Now I'm the only one left from that pledge.
I did find the best guild in the whole game though. I love my guild now. They have all of the great qualities that fgarvin and others mentioned. They are fun to hunt and chat with. We make items available to the guild before the open market. We help each other with build ideas or suggestions. We go on hunts to cool places.
Another thing I realized that hasn't been mentioned, but we have members from East Coast US/Canada, West Coast US/Canada, Asia, and a few other places around the world.

This is an opinion, so we can't really tell you when you're in a 'bad guild', since we don't have your brains. I think bad guilds are guilds that don't play PVE, and too much PVP, because I'm not a big PVP fan, though, probably most people think via versa..

If an officer tells you to drop what you're doing to help him out, you're in a bad guild. This happened to me in the first guild I was in. This officer actually thought he could order me around, like we were in the military or something.

That was not the point of my post...I actually have no negatives to offer concerning my Guild, I honestly have zero complaints. This post was mostly a way to show others, who may not be in a "good" Guild, what it can be like once you are in one. Everyone is going to have a bad day or two no matter what Guild they're in, but if every day is bad, its time to change your Guild from the inside and if that doesn't work, go shopping for a new one.

Everyone has different idea's on good and bad. Personally if someone asks for 5k to finish a set of 15k armor over guildchat, I'd laugh at him. You would think that they could earn 5k easy enough themselves by that point. However if someone is asking for 5k to buy materials for forge armor, no problem. I'll get to you soon as I can.
Was in a great guild but decided to leave for a while to find more pvp opportunities elsewhere. Now I'm in a decent guild but kind of miss being the one that people counted on instead of just an average member.

You're in a good guild if members who take a large interest in the guild become officers.
A good guild wants strong players to take part in rated GvG, but also wants to teach new players how to play GvG. The goal should be to have every player who's interested in competition become good at it.
If a guild doesn't take part in PvP, then it's considered good if it has friendly players who PvE together often, and helps out players in need.
If a guild doesn't do either? Then it's bad. Usually you'll get into bad guilds by accepting town announcements (or, like with my very first guild, a blind invite - it was my second day playing the game, but I still should have known better).

You know your in a bad guild when...
your guildies hate your little butt
your guildies beg you until you finally have had enough and you log off
everyone says "SUCK MINE B*TCH" offensive things for no reason
People have offensive names
75% of the people never play
everyone wants free runs from like piken to droks or something
people just love to pick on the lower levels (not using the term noob, some people just think if you use it, you are one :P cant help it)
Last and least...
officers and leader shun you and threaten to kick you if you dont do what they ask.

You know you're in a good guild when you log in just to talk to the people, and have a good time.
... when your guildmates refuse money.
... when you can threaten to kick someone, and the bust out laughing.
... when you are under MY COMMAND :P

And how do you find a guild?
Do you randomly accept the recruiting advertisements throughout Tyria or is there a better way of finding what you're looking for?

I found my guild by going on a Fissure run with a few of the members. Some people have good luck in Tombs groups, but I usually just go as a full guild, so I never really get into that.
From my experience (2 months as a guild-hopper... not voluntarily, every guild I joined died), the open-recruitment spammers, and people that advertise that thay have cool capes, are usually morons. Sometimes you get lucky and have some decent people, but it's usually beggers, and lamers.
The best way to get into a guild is go active, and play whatever type of GW you like (PvE, PvP), and get to be e-friends with a few people in the guild.

Unless he says, "Forget that lame quest you're doing let's get going on a UW smite run!" I'm always up for that.

Hmm, i guess our guild is a lil different, but:
We never expect free runs (we hate char's being "ran" or "rushed")
We never expect free items --tho they may end up being free
Gold is something earned, not asked for. Certainly if a guildie is in need of new armor or crafting materials for such, then thats something we'd like to help out with. But it really isnt ever *expected* of other guildies.
All in all, I love my guild. We are selective on who we accept in the guild and we try to preserve a balance and a feeling of cameraderie. We're still small, but tight knit.
It must really suck for guildies to tell other guildies to "stfu noob". If that were directed to me, I'd be gone as soon as it was said.
