I would never pay for any game guide considering there is guildwiki.org, which is basically better than any such guide.

And no guide will give you an indepth discussion like guildwarsguru can. And as far as I know Prima guide doesn't have the work of people that calculate the combat math (i.e. Ensign,Sausaletus Rex, Keramon). They just regurgitate info. from playing beta.

Before GuildWiki, GWGuru was always my source of info. However, GWGuru is still a strong reliable source of info. The only reason why GuildWiki flourished is because it is a wiki.

i got it too... it is really outdated, notably still listing stuff like Blasphemer's armor...I think it was published like right when the game came out, so it has changed a lot. I think the internet like guildwiki or guru is better because its free and it is more recent.

For that matter...The little manual that COMES with your game is just as out-of-date. My manual still refers to Attribute Point Refunds and that limitation is LONG GONE.

(For newer people, Attributes used to not be changable on a dime - You had to spend a "refund point" to reallocate a attribute. You got a point for every ~250 or so exp earned. It made it harder to swith builds as you go and lead to alot of people lying about their attribute allocation to get in PvP groups because they couldnt afford to change at that moment)

Oy. Some folks have already said it but it needs to be emphasized.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A GUIDE BOOK FOR A MMO OF ANY SORT.

Think of it as buying the Sunday paper. From nine months ago. For twenty bucks.

Ditto. Mine is super messy and all, but still up-2-date.

I got the guide when the game 1st launched and it was decent but your right with all the changes and the "beta" stuff it has listed but never made it (I so wanted the ele adapt armor...)

It is still good to have the big map (might want to add the nice color dots to add the new locations) skill listings (more for can I get it from a quest over description) and the quest and mission walk through / help.

I'd say 1/2 of it is still usefull overall but you can rip out 2/3 of the back data white pages section.

I do understand that its out of date but for example the reward for a necromancer for completing a quest could b like a mesmer skill. thats not out of dateness thats just a mess up, and I dont expect to have typos in my $20 players guide

You never bought the Final Fantasy 7 Guide did you >_< (its a classic - Error and Typo city). The guide's typos are as big a legacy as the game.

Guide books are good when they are released and serve as a Beginner for data tables and such. Mine has updates all through it that I have added adjusted or corrected... So it is useful as long as YOU take the time to keep it up to date. No publishing company can keep up with the changes that happen all the time. And even more stuff that are intended to be offered but are omitted later for whatever reason. In any case... I still think the strat guide is good for what it is. A base knowledge base. Before it was printed, I had 5 spiral notebooks worth of material. Now I just have the Strat guide and 1 updates notebook of my own making...

The online version is not much better in PDF format. but it does have some of the needed corrections...

The last few events have had entire update chapters added to my notebook. but I am anticipating a new strat when Chapter 2 is released. Which will again help to reduce my notes to a more concise form.

I know some people still to this day hate any kind of strat guide, well that's not me. I buy them with the full knowledge I will have to correct and adjust things in it all the time, BUT that core knowledge is still valid. no matter what anyone says. Its nice to just look up a skill and see where to get it without having to DEPEND on online resources. Sure that may change but it allows a person to note that change in something Physical and have a reference to it. I have been working on a large set of spread sheets that are update able.. I have been thinking of releasing it in the community but at this point it takes me approximately 30 to 40 mins adjusting it when I do it... (normally once a month) But it allows for trend tracking in prices, and for a more concise location guide for collectors and field merchants.

I have been working with an sql+ update system that would allow Anet to post a monthly "State of the Game" query to the game database and fill in the tables via a webpage for the community to reference at any time. This will allow for trackable values and reduce unending Price Checks on things that should be obvious.

ingy...
