what would be the point of removing burning? waste of energy, most spells/skills that cause burning, the burning lasts 3 seconds at most, except the elite mind burn, that lasts like 6-7 seconds. still waste of energy to remove

Sorry to say it, by water is a pretty weak element in PvE. Water's damage output is lacking and the nature of the PvE mobs really don't allow the snare to be put to much use. PvE just doesn't play to water's strong points. Blurred vision is awesome and in select areas when enemy AI has healing signet rust can be somewhat useful. However water is more of snare/utility line that doesn't cater to current PvE design.
As for burning, it is removable. The problem is most condition removals are 1s cast time and the target only burns for 3s with most skills. Add in reaction time and by the time you get burning off only 1s was left.

Try being a Warrior/Nuker who uses a Fire Wand and a Flame Artifact and see who flames the crap out of you. Hell, I can stand in the middle of a battle (with geomancer wards as backup, just to stay on topic) and burn the crap out of everything that comes into view. Taking VERY MINIMAL damage! My two cents.....

It wasn't always this way. There was a saying i heard frequently when i would try and get teams for Fow and UW as a Necro. If it isnt a monk a warrior or a nuker its dead weight. In other words I got the "WTF a necro? hes worthles kick him or I am leaving" Anet just did a really good job of balancing the builds out and when people finally realized the power of SS in UW (i was using wayyy before the aoe nerft and nukers where still popular) Necs started getting the Credit they desearve. People now think Eles were nerfed beyond repair and are now worthless because you can't nuke so easy when the majority of the power is still there you just have to have a brain to use it. Mesmers just look goofy but people are starting to see just how annoying that energy denial Memer in GvG and HoH is and just how much power it gives your team.

Sometimes I'll take out Armor of Earth and sub in Lighting Orb for another 70 dmg. Now that is as much offense as any other character can muster in that amount of time. This whole time I'm keeping up kinetic armor, armor of earth, aura of restoration and elemental attunement.
Guess I'm just ranting cause MOST people have no idea just how effective a Geomancer really is. When they think elemental they think nuker or spiker.

I love when people brag about their "insane" farming combos and how much damage they can do. Especially since this thread is about Geomancers usefulness in a group.

I don't PvP, but I find enchantment stripping to be a BIG problem in most high-level PvE areas. At least, most of the ones with mixed-profession enemies
Is there any point to playing a warding and/or tanking Geomancer without Obsidian Flesh, except when farming one-profession or two-profession monster groups?
When I play a fire mage and get my enchantments stripped, I run away and sulk for a few seconds and then drop some bombs on the bad guys again. But that doesn't seem to fit with the Geomancer builds you guys are talking about.

Wards are not enchantments and cannot be removed - you just need teammates that have enough brain to actually use them.
And a geomancer with Obsidian Flesh on cannot be target of disenchanting spells.

Havent seen what they are using since I haven't visited desert areas since a while, but probably:
Chilblains - Spell
You become poisoned for 3-13 seconds. Nearby foes are struck for 10-37 cold damage and lose one "Enchantment".
Back on the topic on eles - my first character was an ele, and my favourite element still is water. I don't even agree that fire can output that much more damage, because water spells recharge faster, and most have faster casting times, thus can be used more often. Which is especially sweet in case your previous spell has been interrupted. So it all depends on the area - in areas where the enemies are not water magic resistant, ice ele can be loads of fun.

Hey rogmar what the hell are you talking about? Who said I was bragging. If you read the post in the context of the thread it's about also using a geomancer as a weapon in PvE and not just for defense...which is what most everyone thinks a geomancer is for. Geomancers work great as weapons with almost the same skillset used for farming in PvE when coupled with a warrior...think about it. Warrior draws aggro and holds line...geo comes up while others nuke and drops a combo to finish off the group. How the hell is that bragging? Read closely before you start to criticize.

God, i love my Geomancer, i also combine some water magic into my build also. Casting Maelstorm in the area of apposing monk, Quickly makes them run around and things of that nature while your sitting there just PBAOEing the area of there fighters! other words.. add up the two most underrated ele lines and you get a good deal of death on there end. Good post!
<also PBAOE for those who never played DAoC Is Point Blank Area of Effect =)>

I'm always highly appreciative of having a geomancer drop a Ward Against Melee when aggro goes bad and I find myself being swarmed by baddies. Wards can lessen the load on the healing monks a lot, so I've always wondered why more people don't consider geomancers when putting together a party.
Myself, I've been thinking about changing up my characters' builds when I take them through Factions. I'll probably end up switching my ele from fire to earth for that.

He he, after playing with a ranger for the last half year or so, I finally decided to start a new character. After a few indecisive moments of whether to play an Ele or a Mesmer, I went for the E with the sole purpose of creating a Geomancer. I knew immediately that it would be hard getting into PUG's, but that was something I was very accustomed to, since until recently, rangers were pretty unpopular (and they still are for most places, other than Tombs/UW). Like many before me said, it's not that the Earth ele is a bad build compared to any other (it's great and fun to play, to be exact), it's just the ignorance and no will for creativity of the average GW player that's the problem here. Oh well, I'll just tank and ward my henchis then...

Geomancers are awesome! I can actually farm melee monsters faster than my monk with Shield of Judgement. This new geomancer has sparked a new interest in Guild Wars for me.
