When my wife played her ranger character, he was a warrior secondary, and she pretty much had him tank his way through Ascalon.
After that he came into his own.

I bet that was fun. The most fun I've had was the Monk's Path quest. we had 2 trappers, and 2 monks a necro and an ele. The rangers: we just laid traps on top of trapper for those smite thingine. everyone else in the group got a free ride because the smites would get killed by the time they made it through our traps.

PvP Ranger
Poison shot, incindiary arrow, dual shot AND! Frenzy muahahahahha just make sure you look like a noob and don't get attacked for the first 5 seconds. Generally I take 2 evading stances so I can tank a bit too hoping that I will be left alone and can frenzy like a mad bastard. It was so easy PvE I don't even remember most of my builds but it was easy from the start I dun get why ppl compare ranger to mes and say it's hard to get them off the ground. I have yet to see any build as usefull/fun/high dmg dealing as a R/W. I havn't even really got into using spirits and my pet yet either and my R/W is my first char.

To be honest the reason rangers are having a hard time, hell I doubt they are but lets just humor me, is because every single on of them in PvE runs the exact same horrible barrage build... then somehow call them selves interupters. Can't people make up their mind ><
I must wonder though, why did everyone choose barrage? Beyond the large degree of numbers you see, its a rather worthless skill IMHO, not much better than power shot. I think I'd prefer balanced stance to barrage anyday... especially if I was running interupt... but that's just me.

Hmm? Have you been on a Tombs run? I don't mean to flame you and I'm not, but nothing beats Barrage against angry mobs. I love lighting up a mob with Barrage and watching all those negative numbers rise above their heads. You won't get that with power shot (which I take with me for interrupts).

If things don't change, please consider that Ritualist weapon skills work with Barrage.
Now rethink your statement.

Dear god, please tell me that wasn't intentional.
Seriously, rangers rock. But then again, I say that about every class.

I agree! When I first got Barrage as elite for my ranger, I used it constantly, thinking it was the best skill. Now I never use it. Barrage is marksmanship, and the skills I use mostly are based on WS, and it is hard to have WS at a high level, expertise sufficiently high, and still have enough points left to put marksmanship about 11.
I usually play ranger when we go out to SF with friends groups, and I usually take along the three non-elite traps, rebirth, troll, and some interrupting shots. As elite I vary between Poison Arrow, Incendiary arrows, or even Oath Shot, but never Barrage, and my ranger is very effective and damaging. My friends teams allow me to lay down three quick traps before each battle, and I lay more traps during a battle when I can, and the blinding, burning and crippling does indeed make a big difference.
Two nights ago we went out to SF with friends, and since there were already two rangers in the party, I decided to go as domination mesmer instead. Well, neither ranger took any traps at all, no pets either, and so I suppose they were mostly interrupting and marksmanship based. Well, we had a very difficult time of it, and wound up giving up after only a few bosses. Its very difficult for a ranger to interrupt Task Masters and other mesmers, unless they are using choking gas.
I just think traps are great!

I love rangers! Ranger was my first character the day guild wars was released, and still what I play today. I think they're the most versatile profession in the game, and personally the most fun to play, by far.
I love trapping UW, barraging tombs, farming SF, ettins, running, I've even tanked an IDS run with myself, an ele, necro, and monk after crappy tank ditched, trick is good monk, not good tank.
Anyway, there's no doubt people generally seem to overlook rangers, I think it's a shame. Some of the most fun missions I've done though have been in all ranger groups. Hopefully there'll be some key skills for rangers with factions that will boost their popularity and make it easier to find groups.

Mesmers don't need love. I have a buddy that can solo UW with his mesmer.

the further into the game, the more rangers are needed/wanted.
Sure in ascalon and Northern Shiverpeaks you wont get into groups easy, but you dont need too.
Towards the end of the game, and in Pvp especially - groups usually take 1-2 rangers.

Well, I did my bit for bucking the trend in Deldrimor War Camp...
I heard someone posting "lf warrior tank for Oro mission", so i asked them if it had to be a warrior tank that went with them...or would a Ranger (i.e, me) do?
After much wrangling, I got them to give me a try and well....I gotta say, it was the most fun I've had in SF! We went through the whole thing and completed the mission, picking up many greens between us on the way.
Now, whenever anyone in that PuG is online, I just have to ask them if they want to farm Oro and they have NO problems with me as the tank.
The moral of the story? Keep at people if they don't think that Rangers can do a specific job in their 'uber-PuG'.
Rangers can be as useful as any other character in this game, you just have to get your builds right and you're onto a winner.
