before i switched to guild wars i was stuck playing the likes of runescape and other online games. when i started guild wars it was like wwwwooooooaaaa i thought it was friken awsome. after i had gotten to post (i was still in shock over just how awsome guild wars looked) i had gotten to ruins of surmia mision done most of the ascelon quest and i had spent about 6 hour wondering around ascelon looking for a way over the dam mountains, even asked people in the towns and stuff. eventaly after asking "how do you get over the mountains?" in about 3 different towns 2 lvl 20s took pity on me and helped me get to yaks bend.

My first character was an E/W, would cast firestorm and then go in swinging a sword (lord, have pitty on me). As humiliating as that is the worst was my dye experience. I remember pulling 2 blacks a silver and a couple reds. I didnt know what they did at first but was upset that they took up space in inventory and were only worth 1g. I then started applying them to my armor just before i left pre....Needless to say i was one unhappy camper when i say my first "WTS black dye 10k". I ended up being so mad i deleted that character just to spite it.

I got the game as soon as it came out and began as a warrior since i always loved them. I became W/N and spend tons of time in pre-sear and I was loving the game a whole lot. Back then a lot of people had no clue there was more a searing and I was one of those so when I saw the new map and the new ascalon i was just amazed and I started loving the game even more. Now my warrior is deleted and replaced with a newbie warrior and my main is now a R/W whih I have grown to like a lot. Anyway I wish i could go back to presear again since those were really the good old days.

I remember when I started out on my Mo/N, I went all the way through to Mineral springs as Healing/Blood using Well of Blood and then when I got it Well of Power. Eventually though I got to the Ring of Fire missions and since my attributes were scattered everywhere I couldn't heal enough and that was the last I played as a full Mo/N.

When I first got the game I told my brother I'd wait for him to get it (soon) and in the meantime try out different characters, though I already wanted to be a warrior (lol).

Just before he got it, I made a guy called Symeon Axewielder, and started running around with some random warrior partner I found, killing level 2 grawls. Afterwards I wanted to delete him because I thought I needed to do the quests and hadn't done things right. I also thought somehow I could transfer the stuff in my inventory from one character to another.

This is the reason why, if you look at my character list to the left there, my warrior is called Symeion Axewielder. I made a second guy. Afterwards I regretted it but continued on anyway, playing with my brother. Spent a long time in Pre-Sear, doing all quests and killing lots of monsters, getting to level 7. Then I went through the Academy.

It was in Old Ascalon that I experienced the worst disappointment I ever had in this game. I thought every single nook and cranny of the world was explorable, you could just go anywhere, and the only limits were the edges of the world. As I walked around Old Ascalon, doing the quests, I came to several limits, and walked along the edges of the paths, trying to find a way around. Then I thought, maybe there isn't a way around? I asked my brother and he confirmed it. Not every corner of the world was explorable. Soon after that I looked on an internet map and saw the different areas. It was quite a major disappointment, but I still thought the world was huge, and shortly afterwards forgot about the whole disappointment.

Oh, and...my Mo/N (second character) was such a great minion master! That is, until he realised his comrades were dieing too much... . Following that, he switched to curses and randomly casted Mark of Pain and Suffering on people. That stayed the same for a long time until I discovered and captured Offering of Blood.

I may have also actually talked to her.

I'm gonna go hide now.
I would laugh, but I have a similar story ...

Well, when I first started, I could hardly figure out why everyone was hanging out in the towns, and not going out exploring! Every time I left to go adventuring off into the wild and slay great monsters, etc etc I was the only one out there!

I got to thinking "Wow, people don't really play, they just stand around and talk in towns. How odd. Oh well! More loot for me!" and I don't remember exactly what NPC it was, but somewhere in the little Asford village right near the Abbey, I saw the little "talk" bubble appear and something was said, but I missed it and couldn't seem to find it in local chat ... and I sort of tried to strike up a conversation with it, to the tune of "Wow, are we the only two people out here?" and when I got no response, I thought to myself: "These Guild Wars players are rude, I was just trying to be friendly ... sheesh"

... and i'm going to stop there, as to not make myself look like a complete tool ... carry on, good thread!

As soon as I had cleared pre-searing (which I did as quickly as possible not having much time for 'noob' areas and missing all the skills) I ran out of ascalon straight up the hill and got owned by the two devourers that spawn there. God knows how long it took me to figure out you actually had to have a party to play this game successfully.

Then I have some faint images of my Mo/R (my first character) running around the Kryta area with a bow, bow skills and smite skills. I don't ever remember people spamming chat ordering me to heal them though. Perhaps I had it turned off. Wouldn't surprise me.

Anyway they are two highlights of my Guild Wars noobie career. Now I wonder, what are yours?

I am very much looking forward to being a noob again in Factions
i have the same experience as you. I bought the game because i liked Fable and Neverwinter Nights which didnt involve partying up and i couldnt figure out why a company would make the game so hard. Until one of my buddies told me that you can group up with people, then i began to clear the clouds off my map.

Ah yeah, my newbie days ^^

Started out as a R/W. I wanted a finesse type sword slinger, and I figured that'd be the way to do it. Hooked up with my buddy and we walked through Pre to the astounding level of... 3.

Post was very hard for a level 3 Sword Ranger and his pet. Still, I think it did more good than harm. I was soloing by level 6, and had explored almost the entire Ascalon reqion by level 8

I can still remember almost failing the first mission, and repeatedly failing the second one ^^

Good times, good times...

I was like you untill I read the manual about NPCs and playing around with guildies although I was just soloing around Ascalon. This was way back in beta a little more than a year ago and I was very unsure about the game so I just went to PvP more.I really enjoyed playing in the Tomps back then it was more fun than it is to day as well as Random arenas.I liked the fact there was UAS.

On my very first character
I cleared everything in Pre-searing ascalon. I went out Pre-searing ascalon at lvl 14.
Do I win?

Same WPE R/W story as several people here... "if I strike the monks at distance with arrows, and with Sever Artery/Gash in close combat, I'll be UNSTOPPABLE!" Once I got the retail version, I ran this build well into the Cristal Desert.

My fearsome WPE build went something like WS 4, Marks 6, BM 6, Axe 4, Hammer 3, Sword 4. There was no Expertise at WPE, otherwise it would be even thinner

In one of the betas, before res shrines were implemented, I wanted to check how much more damage would I take without armor. So I took it off, sagely dumped it on the ground, and aggroed a mob which promptly killed me. In this moment it dawned on me there was no way to get my armor back, and I had no money or materials for another one. "Delete character? Y" /twitch

Also, for a good two months, I ran a happy Paladin pre-made PvP char. My first visit to Tombs, back when you had to kill Rift Wardens and could enter with a party less than 8, I took 4 henches and somehow destroyed the Warden. On the first map, I figured out you had to fight actual people, so I promptly left. My opposing party must have had a zen moment when they found themselves against 4 henchie team.

I bought elementalist runes for my W/E and couldn't figure out why I couldn't put them on my armour.

Then I bought all superior runes for my W/E and didn't notice that my health went down to 120 when I did it.

To my credit I did have the good sense to put minor runes over the superiors rather than salvage the armour.

I was called "worst warrior ever" on my first trip to Sorrow's Furnace by some unknown teammate.

And there at least 100 more of these little moments that I will not trouble you with.

i was never really a "newbie" i just wasnt as good as i am now, i did do some stupid stuff like solo all the way to lions arch with my first character, might of been alot faster with henchies or pugs, and used a major absorb on all the pieces of armor that didnt have the reduced damage base
so i was using a axe helmet of major absorption, a gladiator chest of major absorption, and a gladiator legging of major absorption

My Number 1 Best Memory From Noobiehood:

The feeling of pain through my face, as my chin slammed down onto my desk when I pressed 'M' after going to post-sear.

My first character was a W/E, because I though it would be awesome to rain fire all over the place while swining away with my sword. Of course, I know now how ridiculous a warrior nuker is. But the worst part is that my warrior made it all the way to Augury Rock using Meteor Shower, Fire Storm, Meteor, Fireball...and some sword stuff. Eventually I just got pissed off cuz I was running out of energy too much, dieing to fast (Desert Monsters+Ascalon Armor+Frenzy+Healing Signet=Frustrated Noob). I decided that W/E was the worst combo, ever and deleted him, to make a Mesmer (I LOVE mesmers, even now!). 3 months ago I made a new W/E, this time using good ol' KD+AS.

i remember being a newbie ele/necro...i must have been the worst nuker, i would use curses with 0 in the attribute...i would split points between fire and earth, and i didnt get new armor until desert when my team mates complained i died too much...

i still remember my second character too...mo/w, and when i got to the jungle, i found myself a chest, and farmed the hell out of it...i would run with protective bond (pre-nerf) using sprint and breeze...my health was something like 250 too, haha.

Hm.. I was lucky, my b/f was there to guide me through pre and explain the game to me.

These days, I wonder why the devourers around ascalon in post were sooo hard? We had left pre at lvl 7, and I still thought they were hard.

Using boon till the desert and struggeling with energy problems...

Not so much a noob problem as a general problem.. I get lost! And I don't mean I get lost in a new area, I mean I get lost in missions I've done more than once before. The noob moment was forgetting to hit U when you enter a mission... then again, I do well with navigating in fow and uw simply because I forget to use a map anyway.

Not knowing that there was a storage agent in ascalon city untill a month after I made it to post. I thought the only agent was in ashford abbey and it annoyed me that I needed to map there to use storage.

Finding out about henchies in RoF missions

My first character was a E/Me that I still have. I remember doing the mesmer quest in pre with the bull. Man that bull was hard...lol. I also remember getting pwned by some grawl when I was level 1.
I sold dye to the merchant until I noticed people were buying dye for far more than the merchant was buying for.

My biggest noob moment was when I discovered Piken, Grenditch Courthouse, and then Serenity Temple. It was my 3rd character. My first 2 were both about level 15. And thats not even the sad part. The sad part is that I had a map and strategy guide. Do I win?

I remember getting to the desert and ascending for the first time, getting infused for the first time and constantly annoying my party members asking about them over and over. How many more missions until ascention? What happens when you ascend? What does infuse do?
