Leveling up, difficulty, and skill points
Hi all
First off, apologies if this has been posted before (did a quick search and haven't seen it mentioned).
First off - leveling up. I can't confirm this, but Im pretty sure I read in an interview with one of the game developers that level 20 will continue to be the highest level. Trouble with that is, a lot of people, once reaching level 20, are put off doing bonuses in missions as the idea of spending a lot of time killing extra monsters for a mere skill point doesn't seem particularly worth wile. Can anyone confirm or deny level 20 will continue to be the highest level?
My second point is - a lot of players who will buy Factions will bring their high level characters straight from the origional GW. But many people who play Factions will also be completely new to the game and start off at level 0.
Does anyone know how the developers hope to manage the difficulty level considering x amount of new players will be lvl 20, and x amount of players will be completely new at level 0?
Thanks

level 20 was confirmed in the latest *FROG TALK*
it will continue for many more chapters at 20.
there are separate paths if you bring in a ascended high level orstart a fresh character

Interesting, although it would be funny to see level 20 players having to go through the level 1 missions ^^

why?
they would simply run through them solo with no trouble.
same as doing presear with a fully loaded ascended character

What I was thinking is that how much more do the new missions actually give exp, as thereĀ“s supposed to be only 14 of them, compared to the 20+ in the Prophecies campaign. I read that there will be more optional tasks to be done during a mission compared to the normal Mission+Bonus in the original campaign. But still it makes me wonder whether there will be a lot more smaller quests to undertake or will players be reaching lvl 20 until nearer the end of the campaign compared to Prophecies, unless people want to grind for levels of course...

There is an equivalent of LA in Canta that will allow travel between the two. (or that was the impression I got)
Each character is supozed to be able to do the post-ascension content of both games, and the pre-ascension content of one game.

Can you predict the future?!?
Don't say what you don't know, you have no idea what will happen in Chapter 3 or Chapters after that. But FOR NOW, yes level 20 will remain the highest level.

Almost every dev has said the level cap will always be 20.
And yes, I can predict the future...shame on you.
(i looked for a while but they did not have a link to the interviews on their website...at least the many I looked through...so you can go look if you dont believe me)

hi
peeks into chrystal ball through the eyes of NCsoft rep and here is what the rep said.

from GW
Guild Wars, in contrast, is based around your skill as a player. Our maximum level is twenty and you hit that very quickly, after about 20-30 hours of play. ,We call that 'The Point of Ascension'. Almost all of the content in the game and in the future Chapters is only available to Ascended characters, which means we don't have to worry about providing different levels of content. All the good stuff will be available to everyone. It's not our intent to force people onto the levelling up treadmill, so the level cap in Guild Wars is almost meaningless.

I found this info about GW: Faction's level cap from the Faction FAQ part of the website.

Will the Character Level ceiling of 20 be lifted?
No, the maximum character level will remain at 20. The level cap of 20 is a fundamental balance mechanism for Guild Wars, a game that revolves around player skill. The leveling system allows you to track your progress as you start a character. But by Level 20, your character is fully trained and is ready to experience the most exciting content in the game.

That to me says it all, I mean it would be nice to go to level 30. But after time it would feel the same as being at level 20, just with abit more skill points.

Level 20 is the cap till now and forever.
As for level 20s to 0, why would it matter? It's not like level 20s will jump in and steal everything. I mean I can't think of anything bad a Level 20 can do to a 0, than be a higher level in the area.

Getting level 20 is really a joke for anyone who know's what they are doing. If you have difficulty getting to level 20, then you are still learning the basics of the game. The only place where level matters is jugding the hit points and energy of a PvE character and that really doesn't matter too much. For example, I know Glint (think she's 30) will require a ton of fire power to kill.
The game is fundamentally broken when you allow for alterations in hit points and attribute points. At one point in testing when runes were being added, there was a certain amount of rebalancing when you gave everyone sups and soon everyone was maxing out at 16 instead of 14. Increasing level in any meaningful way would require rebalancing many damage spells. Any more attributes and a ranger could easily run (16mark or wild/13expertise/10+secondary), with a single Superior... if you don't see that as potentially broken look again. With current attribute caps and more attibute points, players would be able to dump points into passive attributes which will help classes with strong passive attributes (Rangers-expertise, marks; Elementalist Energy, Monks DF). While you may not agree on the details, I hope this allows you to appreciate how delicate the balance is.
The game is balanced for level 20 with 8 man teams. This is your answer for about 75% of basic question/suggestions. It will be "hightly unlikely" that you will ever see 1v1 areaas, higher level cap, better armor, better weapons, massive teams, skill bars extended... It is way to easy to break a game like Guild Wars with too much "innovation". Level cap adjustments would be a gimmick that costs too much in effort for a neglibable benefit.
