A question Vilaptca brought to mind...
For those who buy factions, some of us will likely consider changing the secondary of our existing characters to either Ri or A. For example, my Ranger is already reading the Cliff notes on the Ritualist. Now... where will he be able to change... will the desert outposts allow the option of the new secondaries, or can they only be slipped into in Cantha?

My crystal ball is still in the shop. But you're probably as psychic as anyone else, so just guess the answer, which is all anyone else will be able to do.

If I were to venture a guess, then I'd say yes, you will be able to change to the new professions in the desert. Main reason... marketing for Factions. Let people see a Mo/Ri, for example... say "What's that?"... get told of Factions... and hit the store.
If I were to guess.
--- Added Edit: ---
On the other hand... there wouldn't be any skills available to unlock in Tyria for the new classes without some fairly heavy changes to the original game...
So I'd guess no.
Yes, that's definitely the answer... you either will or won't be able to in the desert.

I remember some time ago Gaile said we could change our secondary profession of our original characters after they traveled to Cantha. So I guess, there would be some quest in Cantha for you to change your secondary to Assassin or Ritualist. And they would add new professions' skill quests in Tyria for sure, because you can choose to start Assassin or Ritualist in pre-searing Ascalon, you can't imagine to level them up without any primary profession skills, can you?

I thought I'd read that you couldn't start an assassin or ritualist in Ascalon, which lead to my line of thinking. If you can, of course you should be able to change to secondaries there as well, as well as choose those secondaries pre-searing.

There will probably be a quest in Cantha to gain the /Ri secondary, and another quest to gain /A. Just like it works in the desert.
However, once you complete those quests, you will probably be able to change secondaries in the Desert.
I also wager that there will be a place to change secondaries in Cantha.

This is fun:
I'm guessing you WON'T be able to change in the desert.
This way ANET won't have to program two instances of each town for those who have Factions, and those that don't. (Although I suppose you could have the guy in the desert, but the quest wouldn't be available for those who don't have factions...)
But really, with the Instant Map ability, does it really matter where we change secondaries? I'm guessing the less Anet has to mess with Tyria, the better!
(for them).
(Oh, and I doubt you'll be able to start an Assassin or Ritualist in pre. That would be... stupid. There's a whole new area just for that purpose in Cantha!)

O.o...I made someone think about things?
I've become influencial...
I'd like to believe it will be as Carinae says. Otherwise...think about how annoying it is right now to switch secondaries on PvE characters while at the PvP isles...yeah...now think if theres a third place to go...
I'm PvPing...oops my Guild needs me to go /R because they want to IWAY, I head to the desert, change, come back...do a few rounds...now say we're going to do some farming...Vilaptca, we need you to go /A...now I'm heading to Cantha just to change again...
It'd be nice if they just added some sort of NPC to do this on the PvP isles...but thats a whole slightly different topic...

The location where you can initially get the quests to change your secondary to assassin and/or ritualist will NOT be in the desert for a simple fact. People who only own factions won't be able to get to the desert and as such can't change their secondaries there. Expect an all new location in Cantha for that. Also expect to not see it during the next event. Finally expect to not see it till atleast 2/3 of the way through the cantha missions.

It's expected, of course, for a location in Cantha for that purpose, sure. But that is irrelevant to being also able to do so in Tyria.

I highly doubt they'll make it possible to change in Tyria. The people who buy Factions are the ONLY people who have access to the Ritualist and Assassin professions, primary or secondary. Therefor, I'm positive there'll be a place in Cantha where one can change to Ri or A.

Guys. Logic :-P
There will be /A and /Rt missions in Cantha. Once those are done, then the secondary-swappers in either Cantha or Ascalon (Tyria is the name if the PLANET, not the continent) will be able to get you set up with whatever you've unlocked thus far.
That way, there's no messing with Ascalon since those dudes' dialogue and swap capabilities are specific to the player as it is, and you can basically just head to whichever swapper tickles your fancy at the time.

I'm fairly certain that Ascalon is a kingdom on the continent of Tyria. You remember Ambassador Zain from the different kingdom, blah blah.. Rurik leading the Ascalonians across the Shiverpeaks, etc?
From the Factions FAQ...
Quote:
Yes. It is possible for a player to enjoy the contents of either game without purchasing the other. Players who have both games may have their characters travel back and forth at will between the continents of Tyria and Cantha. And naturally, there will be content that spans the two games that will make having both campaigns very appealing.

Uh, are you sure Tyria is the name of the planet?
I always thought Ascalon was a Region of the continent Tyria. Kryta, Maguuma Jungle and the Crystal Desert were other regions.
Otherwise, everyone would be from Ascalon, would they not?
And there were three kingdoms of Tyria: Kryta, Orr and Ascalon.
Anyway, it IS messing with the Desert, because right now there is an NPC for each secondary. If they add Assassin and Ritualist NPCS, that is a change. It's possible, but I doubt they'd do it. Why, when you can just port over to Cantha and switch there?
Plus, there is some continuity to worry about... these people have been in the Desert for 100s of years and... oh crap! Here's some new NPCs! Where'd they come from?!?

I really hope they add Ritualist and Assassin NPCs to the desert so we can change secondaries there. It would probably be good marketing for them, if a player does not have Factions and goes to talk to the Ritualist or Assassin NPCs, the NPC could say "you must buy passage to Cantha before I can be of service to you" and get them interested in the new professions and content
As for "why are they suddenly there when they were supposed to be there for 100s of years", I suppose if the Ritualist and Assassin NPCs were alive instead of ghosts, it would be ok. Screw continuity in favor of convenience
I also hope they add profession-changing NPCs to the Battle Isles so we don't have to hop back and forth so much to switch secondaries.
Like MSecorsky, I also heard you can't make a Ritualist or Assassin to start the Prophecies campaign. All I can seem to find though is the link with Gaile saying we can access both games with all 6 slots if we join Factions to our Prophecies account.
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...d.php?t=128790
Does anyone know the definitive answer to the "can you make a new Ritualist or Assassin, or have those secondaries, when starting the Prophecies campaign if you also have Factions" question? I am assuming no, since they would have to update and create lots of quests; then again, it would suck if you could only get to chapter 1 areas with a Ritualist or Assassin after your Ritualist or Assassin played through chapter 2, and then all you could do in chapter 1 is do missions and farm, but have no quests.
I wish ANet would have a more in-depth and updated Factions FAQ somewhere. It doesn't even say anything on their site's Factions FAQ yet about getting 6 slots when you add Factions to your existing account. It still says the final number of additional slots is undetermined. Sheesh. Edit: Nevermind, they updated it today!

Unfortunately, that seems to be contradicted by the newly updated Factions FAQ
Quote:
What are the advantages of adding my Factions access key to my Guild Wars (original Prophecies campaign) account?
When you add the retail version of Guild Wars Factions to your existing account, your existing characters gain full access to the Prophecies content. You can travel back and forth between continents, gathering new skills and items from both, using skills you find on one continent to help you complete quests and missions on the other continent. Your existing characters can choose to take Assassin or Ritualist as a secondary profession, or you can create a new Assassin or Ritualist character and then travel back to the continent of Tyria to play missions from the original Prophecies campaign with that character. You can create PvP characters using a mix of professions, skills, and items from both campaigns, and have access to the widest possible array of strategies for PvP.
|
Although this does seem to have been written in a bit of a hurry, as I'm sure the first sentence should read your existing characters gain full acces to the Factions content.

Again, I really, really doubt Rit. or Ass. can be created in Ascalon.
Unless there are no quests or skills for them.
In which case, what would be the point?
Course, I could be wrong, and Anet could be expanding the whole Prophecy campaign to include new content for Assassins and Ritualists.

Thanks, you rock!!
Yeah, the "and then travel back to the continent of Tyria" blurb from the new FAQ bothers me too, sounds like that implies "after you get to battle isles from Cantha" or something along those lines. But I hope that sentence is just misleading and you can choose to start a new Assassin or Ritualist in Prophecies like Gaile originally said

Let's all hope they are doing that, it would be a big bonus for buying Factions
