Come to think of it, Guild Wars does dominate in the graphical area...

Hm. I'll have to go with a, "Yes," on that one, my friend. IRC and other similar methods just aren't the same!

Let's just all agree to disagree.

And Kakumei we're not so far apart on one thing. If you'll look at my first post in this thread you'll see that I mentioned how none of the MMOs really encourage/support true RPing, like the PnP experience does, and that I wish someone would try to make an MMO that could reproduce that feeling. So even though we don't agree about GW and RPing, I do agree that GW isn't the best game to try RPing in.

I remember there were a bunch of RPer's in Lion's Arch, but I heard they moved to a new location. I'm not going to mention where they are because I know someone will go there and act like a jerk to them, ruining everyone's fun, and insult them in leet speak. Although, time has passed and they might not be there anymore or probably relocated. There is this one person that comes to a certain town and is a fun RPer. She's always in character and enjoys having fun with the people she knows (good friends) and vice versa. Sometimes they like insulting each other RP style, good ol' crude satire.

If you're interested in RPing I highly suggest you head on over to the Sanitarium and sign the petition there... I would hazard a guess that most of you already have, but nonetheless, in case you haven't...

Sure, Guild Wars might not be the most conducive environment to role-playing, but what is? If something is possible, someone will try it.

I've wandered across some RPers in the International Districts in my time. I'm always polite and deferential and let them be. It's so much nicer to see than the bots and farmers and sh*t crowding most places.

Cjlr... don't. You'll just provoke Kakumei more.

Thats basically how I treat the game. I don't use MSN or Yahoo, my mates know to try GW first before any other method.

I love roleplaying, but GW is not designed for it. In fact, most online RPGs aren't. Hell, most RPGs period aren't. The only online RPGs I know of where there is roleplaying is on RP MUDs. There are many that enforce roleplaying, meaning if you speak out of character consistently, you'll be kicked.

That said, I do roleplay in GW occasionally. Sometimes guildmates get togother and we dance for tips (fully clothed). We roleplay the whole thing out like we're traveling performers and such. It's fun.

I sometimes try to "act" like my characters would and make it a little deeper experience. Instead of saying "LFG mission" I can say "Are there any brave souls willing to venture through the Ice Caves?" What's funny, I've found a more thought-out messages tend to find me more thought-out players to party with than your average "LFG".

And sometimes I just talk about myself in 3rd person. I have probably bored my guildies to death with my travel stories, since my main char is specialized in taking nice screenies from around the world of Tyria. I dislike competitive playing to an extent and sometimes am just content to explore and have fun without a real "goal" in mind.

And MUDs. There are tons of MUDs out there where you *have* to roleplay. Leet-speaking kiddies are not allowed, only actual role-players.

If you can't role-play in a text-based environment, then how do you have enough imagination to role-play at all? Original roleplaying games were language-based (tabletop/pen'n'paper RPGs) and that is how I think the roleplaying experience is best. It allows you to use your imagination more and do things you can't in a graphics engine. Same with books vs movies.
