I'm well aware L2 is primarily a PvP-centric game, but that doesn't mean you're supposed to indiscriminately walk around in towns or near the entrance to cities and randomly attack people who are standing there conversing, shopping for goods, or planning their next quest! That's just absurd. The game will tag your player name purple if you PK outside of a guild-vs-guild raid or arena, during which time anyone is free to attack you, but for jerks with really powerful characters, that's hardly a problem since almost no one wants to challenge them.
And more than that, the community is unhelpful, full of immature brats or closet bigots who use MMOs as their outlet to rant against anyone who isn't like them, etc, etc... I don't mind consensual PvP when it's organized and the players treat each other with a modicum of respect, but that's something you won't find in L2.

Flaming is the main reason why I venture into towns and outposts as little as humanly possible in online RPGs. I don't find Guild Wars to be quite as bad - and thank God for that, this game isn't very friendly to those of us who like to skirt past human settlement - since everyone's too busy hawking items and runs. I'm pretty quick to disengage the ALL channel and conduct my business quickly whenever I see the name "Bush" float above someone's head, though
Far as PvP goes, it's about on par with what you can expect from just about any competitive game. I rarely speak to my teammates unless it's a good team, and I completely eschew the local channel, so I miss most of the inappropriate flaming.
Oh, and woe to thee who brings a character under level 20 to the random arena! If you think that place is a dive normally, just wait until some poor level 19 soul spawns into your party and watch the four-letter words fly :/

Thats kinda cool that they do that. It might be a tad extreme, but its a good way to counter flaming and the like.
Sadly, there area really only a small group of people that flame in GW, and yet they ruin the experience for alot of people. I want to know how many new people we get that try the game, and get turned off by the flaming. I know during the PvP weekend event there were alot of new people that were very unimpressed with the players they saw.
A game with a bad reputation is one thing. Problems can be fixed, the game can be made better (at least with an online one), and some people will still like it enough to play. If, however, it is the community that is responsible for the reputation, then it is a slightly different matter. Some players that would like the game wont play it because of the other people on. Of course this isn't always the case, but it does happen often.

I played L2 for awhile, it was horrid. Doorway PKing is ridiculous, they camp the door and take cheap shots at low level players while they enter or exit. That Karma crap they came up with is so stupid, its only has hindering as a death penalty in GW. All the towns are like ghost towns, there's nobody in them, and when you do find somebody they dont speak. Everything was expensive as hell, theres no help anywhere, holiday events and items are a joke. Needless to say after a month i cancelled subscription.
Anyway, Im sure Random arena players aren't as bad as that, they may be immature at times, rude, or maybe just throwing a temper tantrum. Either case, GW is a great game that shouldn't be ruined by cheap words of insults, strong players will always prevail.

Exactly, Diablo! You know what I'm talking about. It's really irritating and unnerving when you've just been through a tough battle and want to recharge, resupply and re-equip at a town, and as you approach you see a bunch of people camped in front just beating up on anyone who tries entering. It's ridiculous.

numerous times I've played in CA or Random Arena, lets say with monk. then you move circle, stay on healing range to keep your party alive facing all those warrior rangers and mindwrack mesmers. then you have to listen some
"FU noob runner", "you stupid monk" and all other crap.
to all of you PROS out there, I can say that IF I continue play this game, in Random Arena or elsewhere...I keep on moving, humanoids do not have feets without reason. and if you cant do more than flaming ppls when they learning, moving, playing, testing builds or having fun. go to play Heroes Ascent and leave us NOOBS alone

Let's see, in TA, RA or HA if youyr the last one left alive, with no rez and at least 2-3 people are chasing you, don't be surprised if they start calling you names.
Yea, it's fun. But after some seconds it becomes annoying for the other team. Accept the fect that you're defetead.
And let's not forget those geniuses who only equip running skills and some self heal and after their team is dead start their maraton....

It's like real life right? Just ignore them if it's in PvP say nothing and beat them sencless. If they're on your team let them get beat up a bit and then save them so they can see who the noob is. Simple as that and I undertsand that you might not be able to avoid reading the garbage they type but trust me you can. Heres something you should know if someone said suchs thing or does whatever it annoys them when you don't say anything or do anything. So one you look more mature two you get thier goat at the same time so you win.

I agree. No matter were you are, in real life or not, jerks are simply not worth wasting time on.
It's not worth trying to prove your point. Life is too short to argue with such people. If they are rude/incompetent, then it's their loss. Just feel good about yourself not being such a jerk

No offence to PvP'ers its just an observation and I dont judge when playing because you get your fair share of idiots in PvE also, but they are usualy in your team so perhaps thats the difference.

Uhm, try PvP besides Random Arenas. Roughly 70% of the idiots in PvP are concentrated there.

I don't mind kiters, a Warrior they're annoying, but hey that's part of their survival. If they can't take me by standing there, then they should run. What bugs me is Marathon Runners. People who just pack a run around build to try and make the other team so mad they leave when the rest of their team is dead. That's cowardice.
The biggest fire starter words:
-Bush - AVOID AT ALL COST
-Chuck Norris - AVOID AT ALL COST
-Warrior Monks + do not suck
-Warrior Monks + suck bad
-Hitler
-Race
-Religion - AVOID AT ALL COST
-Evolution - AVOID AT ALL COST
I will guarentee, that if you make a comment about the "AVOID AT ALL COST" words, maybe even just say those words, you will start a convorsation, which will last 2 minutes, and then burst into a flame war.

I agree with most of what you said.
However I have to disagree about running being deemed as cowardice. I believe in using whatever necessary tactics to win the game. No matter how annoying, how frustrating, or how devious they may seem at times. A win is a win. Much of modern warfare tactics (Guerilla warfare, Snipers, Covert Ops, Supply Sabotage... etc) were once deemed as a cowardice tactic in the past, back when armies arrive in square uniform patterns and march face to face with drums rolling and flags waving...
Facing a marathon runner may seem challenging at times, I've had my share . But if we are determined to succeed, we will hunt him down, slay him, and become the undisputed victor of the arena!

I have no time for people in love with the word that is supposed to be offensive, 'noob'. It's ridiculous, sometimes it'll be the only thing someone says, other times, it's damn near every other word.
Now that I know people get mad at you for not being easy to kill, I might just start pvping to keep the ritalin kids angry!

It's ok to be angry when facing a runner, but do not despair and give up... instead, your anger shall be delivered in a swift wrath of vengeance that will annihilate the runner in pure destruction. HUNT the animal down, CHASE him until the ends of the world, how DARE he rob you of your glorious victory. And when your steel blade meets his flesh, cut him down, skin to skin. Watch as he kneels before you headless and bleeding. Quenched with his blood, that is when you know you've won, and then you can type
/point
/laugh
/dance

I just think the mentality of 'I'm mad because you were hard to kill/I couldn't kill you' is ridiculous! Yeah, it may suck, but don't get mad at you're opponent, christ! Rebuild and hope for better next time!

Cowardice is cowardice. Hence the comin introduction of the skill:

I've said it in other threads & I'll say it in this one...This is the reason people are stopping playing random pvp.
Most of the players I know will only GvG or PvP with guildmates or friends.
The randoms are just full of idiots who noone will play with, exactly like BattleNet became in Diablo2.
I wish there was something Anet could do about this, but I don't suppose there is.
