Gaile: EB Games on Collectors Crack or not?
I made a stop into Electronics Boutique today (in Toronto), picked up the pre-order package and requested that if it was possible yet, that I have this linked to the collectors ed as opposed to the standard edition. In the previous pre-order situation I had the package switched about 2 months previous to release successfully so I thought I would ask early. Well the EB representative basically told me most assuredly that the collectors edition package would NOT be available to Canada. I shrugged him off because I know this is most likely not true but its good information for you guys to know because I cant imagine how many people before me he has mis-informed.
It may be a good idea next pre-order around to specify on the package that the pre-order is applicable to both collectors and standard and also have some informational package available to these vendors about what the packages are and where they will be available and how the pre-order applies to them. This may be the vendor training I have no idea but now you guys know a little more about what is going on on the front lines and especially with those vendors that you have linked from guildwars.com.

I can garantee you that if you have the pre order then you can reserve the CE.
Thats what the EB in my area (also Toronto) told me.
They do not have it in the system yet but they put a note on my reserve (plus another person that called in while I was in the store) that we would like to reserve the CE.
They also checked with the head office of EB while I was there.

As a side note, they didn't even have the package out on the shelves. I had passed by the store about 3 times because I didn't see it there and decided to ask this time while there wasn't a line.
They proceeded to pull it out from behind the counter at this point......<--- If i was ANET I would be giving the rock eye right now and laying a few peoples elbows out not only for the above but because the store I was in was in a MAJOR mall. Bah I'll rat them out and pay for it later. Eaton Center for G's sake.
Wow. I wandered by there on my lunch break yesterday looking for it, but didn't see it. The line up was too long for me to wait in for a question I presumed the answer would be no to. Thanks for this thread soul less. I'll head back there and get my copy reserved. And you'd think they would want my money...
I bought my pre-order package from a EB Games here in B.C. on tuesday(mar. 14). The salesguy told my that is the only way to pre-order GW:F(Guild Wars Factions), and I also ask then CE(collectors ed) was comming out, and he told me that they didn't have it in thier system. But the salesgirl there over heard us and told the salesguy to look under Guild Factions. And it(CE) was there in the system. Funny she know where to look, because she has taken afew pre-orders for CE.
And if EBGames(in Toronto) still does not have it in thier system, then do what boxterduke did. Because maybe each EBGames in different provinces have CE in thier system and some don't or have not update thier system yet.

I ordered two copies of Factions from their website a few weeks back. I had both preorder packages shipped and arrived yesterday. I went out to their website to see if they had the collectors edition up yet and they did, so I called the help line and asked them to upgrade one quantity on the order to the CE. Done, no hassle. Guy even told me he would do both, until I pointed out the page said only one per customer, but even then he was trying to make it happen.
Here's what Ebgames.com states for Collector's:
Guild Wars: Factions Collector's Edition with Bonus!
Pre-Order: Ships on 4/27/2006 Ships to U.S. addresses only.
So no go for canadians?
(btw. my Ebgames is @ North York)
/we just have to wait for it to get on Ontario's EB systems.)

I think i'll get that note stickied on my account via the online method instead of via those sales automatons in store.
Primarily and from beta experience I think Arenanet should just put the information RIGHT on the package . That way you cut out the middle man all together and put the information right on the box for those who may be confused about the two editions. You do have that big yellow strip along the top of the package indicating it is a pre-order pack and not the real game, I can't see why they can't place on there "This is the pre-order package for either the collectors edition or standard addition" for those that may not know that and on the back of the package indicate what that really means with a blurb. "Obtain this box to get exclusive pre order weps, early access to pre release event and to secure your Collectors or standard edition! Collectors edition has blah blah blah available at your retailer on release". As it stands there is no indication on the box of a collectors edition at all. That would inform people about the options they have on release, force the retailer to be informed when they get bombarded with questions on the differences a lot faster, clear up some of the pre-order questions & issues that have happened in the past and are also happening currently too and all in time for chapter three.
Keep in mind when you go to a retail store they are there to do the job not provide information. Job meaning running the register and stocking shelfs.
Most retailers get their info wrong because they simply cannot know everything about all the products they are selling. Some just don't give a crap to begin with.
If you want info about something go straight to the distributor. If you are sick of dealing with retailers then pre-order it online.

I have to disagree. The job for a distributer is to distribute units provide dby hte publisher and they dont give a rats about the product. The job for both the publisher and the retailer is to make a sale. As many and with as high a return as possible. I'm sure they are getting a better return from the collectors edition then from the standard for one so why they would not want to make sure they capture those sales in the best way possible is beyond me. Especially since every pre-order box is a guaranteed sale where as stocking a shelf with products that may or may not sell in a non pre-order situation is a chance for a sale.
My EB (Connecticut) had run out of pre-order kits, but they had 5 pre-orders (including me) so they said they'd get some soon. They also said they didn't have CE in their system, but thanks for the tip about Guild Factions. I'll have to go back when I pick up my kit and ask them. >.> You'd think that Electronics Boutique Game stores would hire people who know stuff about GAMES and upcomming-completely-elite-game-pre-orders...
Depends, sometimes you can walk up to the dude at the counter in EB's and they'll have the attitude of "Durrr... Wuts a game?" and sometimes you'll encounter some who are like "Dude, you're ordering that game? Man that's so awesome etc. I've played all these games etc and this is by far the most fun etc etc etc".
They're just hired by the company according to how well they do they're job. If they've played every game in the store and are addicted to them all, that's just a bonus and you know why that particular person got the job over the other guy.
Hmm will this the first time that I've ordered anything from EB Games plus the first time ordering anything pre-order. I asked them about the pre-order package before they even got them or the info about them. When they did they automatically added them to my order for me. They sent an email letting me know about the shipment and the itemsarrived on date that was in the email.
With my experience so far it has been good and I've read some of the horror stories that some people have had and it’s a shame to be honest.
Same for me, (directed @ viper). The guy I called was nice, and he even put the customer on hold for a minute while he looked my thing up. He told me that I could alter the order, and told me that they are expecting the pre-order shipments next week sometime. I think the CE preorder option only came out recently, because I went on monday (3/13) and they didn't have them in their system. The weird thing is, there is also a Gamespot in my mall, and I saw that listed on EB's map of my area and the closest EBs too. What's up with that?
