Monk Healing w/Keypad
The 10-key keypad can be used to select the member you want to target for healing. I think it would be really nice to see a party number displayed with their name like the numbers are displayed on the spell/actions bar. If this could be done I think we could "heal by the numbers" much faster than using a mouse. I've tried putting the numbers on the sceen, but this only works reasonably well with LCD monitors. When you try to do this with a CRT monitor the alignment is terrible because the projected image is some distance behind the the monitor screen.
Just a thought from monk that likes keeping people alive!

Awesome, this may allow me to try playing GW mouse-less. Sometimes i noticed trying switch back and forth between allies and certain particular enemy using a mouse is a bit annoying, of course if the group understands to call target this wouldn't be an issue for me to begin with... but wth

This is actually the best way to monk. I've been trying to learn it for a while.

I usually play heal monk with the mouse and by clicking on the indivual names but when infusing, I always use the numpad.

the first thing i did when i got the game was remap my skills to the number pad. i use the mouse to move and select party members' bars. i know my recharges so well now i never take my eyes off of the screen and toss around really fast heals/prots.

In PvP your team members do have numbers next to their names.

I've tried keypad monking in the past, it just doesn't work for me. I usually have my mouse over the party bar, and use it to quickly rotate the camera around as well as to select party members. Looking around and maneuvering with the keyboard alone is just too slow for me. I need my right hand on the mouse.

The party window should have numbers next to the members. In PvP at least. In PvE super-fast healing isn't really critical like it can be in PvP anyway.

How do you do this? Do you mean you can select target by number? I don' think the current UI has this function.

The standard keyboard layout is a HORRIBLE design if you are repeatedly typing the same thing like numbers on the numpad.
I barely stand typing on it...much less playing a game on it.

keypad is the only way in pvp, especially if your an infuser - if i use a mouse when i infuse, i usually move the mouse too fast and click the wrong name :P.. btw does anyone know if you can somehow make NUM 9 select the Ghostly Hero and '*' to select Priest? It would be very, very useful.. i hope Anet is reading this

I once redesigned my entire keyset to allow for an awesome monking set up, but it turned out to be terrible for playing anything else besides a monk. Now I simply use the number pad on the right to select party members 1-8 (Factions will allow groups of 12 so this may get tricky in the future O.o) And I also set the arrow keys and the numpad enter button to use skills 5-8. Now when I monk I put my main skills on slot 5-8 and heal with my right hand while it's on the numpad, and my least used skills on 1-4 so I can hit them with my left hand when I need to, but other than that keep my hand on the movement keys. I also set Caps Lock to use skill 8 (which is where I put my infuse) so that if my hand is on the mouse for some reason, like removing a Holy Viel, I can still have a chance to infuse a char if I can mouse them in time. And to reply to a comment about healing the ghost, this is the one evil annoying part of keypad healing. If they added a way to select NPCs, (not just "Target Nearest Ally") then there wouldn't be much trouble at all. Hopefully they might add this feature in the future. Until then I guess I'll just have to endanger my entire team each time I take my hand off the keypad to select the ghost with my mouse
