one note of hope for chapter 3.
note the fairly large changes and then consider that chapter 3 may go off on a completely different tangent in the direction that you like.
also chapter 3 has 6 months to analyze what people dont like about chapter 2 and make changes if needed.

note that the Anet person said that the faction holding onto territory had access to a set of super elite quests which were separate and essentially bonus areas with most of the regular game still available to the regular players.
if pvp is forced on players who dont want it or simply suck at it (like me) they will lose customers big time.
the top brass at Anet has said chapter 2 is extremely important in estabkishing a returning customer base so there will still be plenty for us little folks as well as challenges for the experts.

Why are people who are getting the game posting in a thread specifically asking who is NOT getting it.....?
"Hands up who is NOT buying the game?"
"I'm getting it!" *puts hand up*

Guild Wars is a pretty ok game i give it that.
But it's not an MMORPG that's for sure. The town outposts are simply GW answer to Bnet chatrooms for a 8 player PvE experience like Diablo 2.
Guild Wars seriously lacks PvE elements AND we can't deny the fact that the game has serious balance issues.
I don't know about you guys, but are any of you bored by the specific builds you have to make just to get into a team?
Sure, they advertise skill and not grind.
They give us a boatload of skills and stuff.
But the thing is... almost EVERYONE runs the same build in PvE or PvP.
Question: Where is the skill??
Answer :The more highly skilled IWAER wins alright... not fun.
They cannot charge a monthly fee for mediocre content. No one would pay 1/2 the price of WoW's monthly fees to be rank 6 or higher to PvP or from a canned 5 man gear team to farm.
A question i would like to pose to all you:
What do you do in the game once you've reached level 20??
Farm WarCamp, UW, FoW?
PvP using the same builds?
Get pissed at "please show rank emote"?
Sell items in LA?
Idle in Grotto or Fisherman's haven showing off FoW armor?
Complete all Missions and Bonuses out of boredom?
Help a guildie to complete the vicious cycle?
Create a new character, rinse and repeat?

Sounds like you want a grind game. Please read the bold text at the top of the front flap on the box you purchased:
"Prove your worth in a world where skill decides. Your skill will be your legend. You'll prove your worth with every battle as skill, not hours played, decides your fate."
|
That is and always has been bollocks,
Skill - Proficiency, facility, or dexterity that is acquired or developed through training or experience.
Skill - A developed talent or ability.
For an individual skill is proportional to hours spent developing it so the oft touted claim that skill > time is simply nonsense.

I WILL ANSWER FOR MYSELF ONLY.
none of the above.
there is much left after hitting20 as it comes so early in the game.
i do what i want to do at the time i play.
THIS HAS A START
A MIDDLE
AND A FINISH ON THIS CHAPTER.
WHAT YOU DO IS UP TO YOU AS YOU HAVE FINISHED IT.
i read a good book
visit rl friends
garden
play something else
ham radio
etc.
i play for fun not because i think it is a MMORPG that i have to play constantly or lose ground.
this is fun to play but only a game.
for comparison of value if i am in the middle of a long mission (i use henchies) and the cat wants petting either the game will still be running (or i start over) because a friendly cat has priority over a game (which i like)

I'll likely not pick up the game unless anet gives casual players a better pvp grouping system and more pvp content for smaller guilds.

I am too worried about the alliance system (not so much the faction control system). If the alliance system restricts my ability to get skills, or armor (crafter max, not the 15k/fow versions) then I may have some issues but I don't know (it's not out).
The drawbacks to factions from what I've read/seen does not swing me away from buying it.
From the Korean GW site, I stumbled across a map where it looks like each country is on each side of the map (left / right) and the fight starts in the middle of the area and will cut in to the left / right sides depending on the cities.
To be honest I perfer the conquest system from Final Fantasy XI that having "favor" gives you boons but does not lock you out between the 3 kingdom indirect conflict.

one possible way to bypass that disaster might be several collectors on each side having the same items of equal to crafter stats
another might be neutral crafters in areas available to all
i dont think they will stumble over something this big.
they have had more than a year to see this and i gave 2 workable ideas in just a minute

Good points, I agree, it's more fear of the unknown. Being part of a very small guild (of friends), the alliance control would hurt me the most. Faction control (if set up right) will be changing constantly over time so I just to be patient or if it's one sided, shift to the enemy

Personally, I won't be getting Factions. I've had several items dissapear due to game glithes in the past months, and Anet's response was (paraphrased) "people have made false claims about this kind of thing before in an effort to scam us. We will not replace your items or reimburse you the lost funds. If you attempt to scam us again, we will ban your account"
Lovely way to treat a paying customer. So I definately will not be buying Factions.

I'm not sure if I'm going to buy it, either. It depends entirely on the PvE side, and, like another poster said, I don't like getting forced into PvP.

pre-oredered yesterday.
i think a little less than 1000 hr played over 10 months says that guild wars was worth $50, purchasing in hope that factions will destroy whatever is left of my social life.
