A patch hit not to long ago addressing some sound issues. But still people bytch.

EVEN Gaile herself came here to try and help the bytchers but no dice.

I say that some people deserve this problem since they are not willing to be patient while they fix things. Every bug isn't fixed in a day.
There's still evidence of problems but no evidence that any further work is going into the sound engine.

I find the above post unnecessarily aggressive. Sound for many people is rubbish, but we should all just behave like nothing is wrong because you say so. Are you suggesting that we use telepathy instead? Is the problem the sound engine, or the fact that people are unhappy with it? Telling nice, reasonable people to effectively shut up is a little uncalled for.

All people have asked for is the option to restore their sound to how it was, if they choose. This request has not been addressed. Maybe with better comms from ANet people could blithely sit back and wait for a cure.

I believe that my post addresses many of these points.

What's better, fixing the problems that exist with the new sound engine code, or adding a quick and dirty hack on top of it to let some few people revert to the old code, which may or may not still be in the current build?

from a development standpoint, it's probably better to push on through and get rid of the bugs that exist in the new code so that it works properly for everyone, and *then* worry about coding in options.

(Really, it would've been better to make sure it was working right in the first frigging place, but that's not exactly an option at this point, is it?)

i mean, sure, it's possible they're just being bullheaded about trying to get the new code to work, and it'll take more than it's worth to get it working, but it's also possible that they just need people to be patient for a short while so they can get that last bit done so it works right.

it's up to you to believe which one you think is happening.

TBH I think they pushed it out to hit a deadline and are now working on Factions. I'd love to be proved wrong.

Sword hits are still way too loud and Axe hits are silent. Many, many people have this problem and it's been a week.

Ok, so moving the sound slider back a notch, and then back to max fixes things for me.

It's almost identical to the way the texture problem worked that we had a few months ago on newer nVidia drivers.

Ignorance is bliss?

I'm gonna post it AGAIN since you didn't read it the first time:

Rome wasn't built in a day, and you shouldn't expect the sound to be fixed in a day either.

There is probabaly no turning back to the old sound system if a lot of changes were made.

But if you don't want to wait for a fix that works then you are free to bytch untill your eyes bleed. But just don't expect anyone to break their back to please you because you command it.

EDIT:

I did a little reconnaissance and found out that Anet IS IN FACT working on the issue. So right now, reporting the problem will probably get you the automated answering system since they already know about it.

Yes, exactly. This seems to work for me too. If you are hearing "whoosh-whoosh" instead of "tchuck-tchuck", move the quality slider up or down one step, wait for a couple of seconds, and then slide it back to its original position.

Meh... I just want the old sound back. It wasn't broken before why break it? Was it to add something on the box along the lines of "Upgrade 3D Positional Sound etc". The sound was perfect before!!!!!

Well at least that's better than not being able to hear your attacks hitting at all or barley hearing your footsteps when your even close up to you char.

I just hope ANet can come up with a good solution to this sound issue as it's been screwed for me since the 9th and the 14th's update didn't do squat for me.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat still. Sound is just terrible even with the 14th's update. Like must I just want it back the way it was; and I'm not complaining, just think it should have been tested a little more before it was put into general release. Oh well, they'll get it fixed, we just need to be patient...and keep reporting it of course

I'm bytching about Ignorant arses like you who want to be spoon fed and whines and crys when the food isn't available at the drop of a dime.

I tried to be reasonable the first time, the second time I was ignored, the third time I'm throwing the gloves off.

From now on I'm going to counter ignorant responses at all costs either that or until the thread is locked.

The latest sound update seem to fix skill activation sound looping at least for me. However, it still loses landing hit sounds sometimes. Moving the slider to left and then back to middle will fix it.

I really don't know anymore what other sounds are missing because I have played the game with missing sounds so long, I can't remember what else the old playback had.

hmm...uh..hmmm...O-me-gaaaaa! Come out and pa-laaa-aay!

Funny stuff. You guys who complain about in-game stuff are OK, as long as it is a legit problem, and this one is.

BUT, you guys who complain about guys who complain, some serious mental issues are floatin around I guess...

I have sound problems. None of the fixes actually fixed anything. I tried bunches of stuff to fix it - no dice, so now it's back to where it was when the first 'upgrade' occurred, in hopes things will get fixed soon.

I have this theory: if only a few of the many, many thousands of people playing complained about something, and then only a few times and let it be...nothing gets done, or if the problem is noticed by the developers, high priority is not assigned to it. On the other hand, if a whole crap load of players complain, and do so until the cows come home...the problems really gets noticed and a higher priority is set on it...if nothing else, then to shut everyone up.

So I say - keep complaining - let's get the situation resolved. For those of you who just come in here trolling around to see whom thy might befix your 'flame shot' upon next..I fear not you, for you are nothing to me!

LOL - that ought to choke a few, maybe even provide us some more chuckles from Omega types.

edit....um, I forgot...now where did those gloves go?

Well, you just broke your forum code of conduct. What do you get out of flaming me? Why not read some other threads instead, if people discussing their sound problems bothers you so much? You pompous arse.... do you own the internet or something?

Go back to IGN and haunt their forums.

People are complaining about the same damn thing over and over again like ANET is going to go into code red just to please the one and only Torqual. Stupid bastard.

Why is it something you personally have to get so emotional about if other people want their sound fixed?

If you have no sound problem, why not ignore the issue and leave it to others?

....unless reading threads about things that don't affect you and insulting people at random is what you fill your day with.

Have you considered maybe getting a life instead of this behaviour?

There are people that work on the game engine they did mention in recent article the graphics engine is going to DX9 with factions. They also have two dev teams working (Factions Team, and Chapter 3 teams). When Faction is done, Faction Team's start with Chapter 4).

Since there "preview" for new players for factions is coming out, I think they are working on the sound, Anet has shown it like's big updates before major preview event (login / character screen before Faction PvP event..) and now the new 3d sound right before Faction pve.

I don't think they stopped working on it, I think they got some of the stuff fixed and stable and blasted it out to the clients while still working on it especially since factions is coming out (bad sound leaves a great impression on perspective player).
