the current rate is $27US for 500plat.
To get enough Ecto and Shards for FOW armor it cost around 1200plat or so which is approx $68US.
The time and effort to get 120 or so Shard and Ecto far exceeds the $68 you spend buying gold on ebay.
To some people $68 is 2hrs of work and to others its 20hrs of work in real life.
To get 120 Ecto and Shards it will take well over 50hours of game time there fore ebay is the easiest choice for most.
On my first account, I got my FOW armor legitly but on my new account, I didn't. I already earned my FOW armor but due to time restraints, I'd rather spend $$ on gold then waste more time of my life trying to farm for something I already gained legitly.

Really that was a poor counter-argument. Saying only people who have time to spare should have the best items is silly. Take for example... I you got yourself a iPod, but someone took the time to put one together, does that mean you shouldn't have one?
That is a bit of silly example, but still.
There are plenty of people I know who have paided for gold to get FoW armor, because they want to look good ingame. And sadly the don't have the time. It had nothing to do with them lording over others, more it has to do with others who already have the armor lording over them.

Now in this case, they pay for time played. Now I can understand that someone who has a job and is a devoted father to his family and has other responsabilities for example can't play hours and hours every week. I don't have a prob this fella buys ebay gold. As a matter of fact I don' give a dam about the whole ebay thing. I just play this game and what other people do is just their business.
I do understand though that Arenanet doesn't like it but only because they don't get that money.

Yeah thank you, you summed it up nicely. A.net don't like the fact these gold sellers are making money from their game, where really that money should belong to A.net, since the ingame gold was created by them, and thus belongs to A.net.

It's even worse than silly I am afraid.
Imo FoW-Armour is meant for everyone who either had the luck of getting rares or spent the time farming the costs. The time-argument really is lame. Anet IS against buying gold, no matter if they can avoid or stop it in total. They do take action and ban. If you don't have the time but still want to look good and/or impress others, then stand around in LA Dis 1 and/or Grotto - but no, of course you won't have the time to do that, right?
In a game where socialising is or can be a contributing factor people tend to create a parallel-existence. I never looked up to anyone's looks, children do however, and GW is full of them.

Then they have serious issues and need treatment. I gave half of my (planned) 2nd FoW-armour materials away because I might not play factions at all - I won't have the same amount of time.

FOW armor IMO is supposed to act as a gold-sink to get rid of some of the gold circulating out there in the economy, however since they are 'different' skins from the other armors, they are "most wanted" by some people, and that invariably leads players to farm for the money to obtain them. Even though they act as gold sinks, people are trying to 'extract' gold from the game (by farming). Besides acting as gold sinks, it also sets a new goal for the player that has finished the game and has little else to do. Secondary to gold sinks, FOW armor acts as a 'game extension'.
Is it really difficult to "earn" FOW armor? What you doing exactly? Farming. Farming for gold, or farming for high-end items to sell for gold or ecto/shards. This then becomes a "grind". Some people enjoy the grind while others could spend their time doing other things that are more important to them. This is why they are buying "time" spent.
Ebaying in-game gold doesn't exist only on GW- it exists practically on every MMORPG. It should be expected.
