do people have all these gems because its the best way to store your money after 1.4mil? I cant see how u can find so many...
Bit off topic soz... heres my bit:
does the price of materials and runes change because of what players do (buying, selling) or what Anet do?

I personally think the only reason Ecto,Sup Absorp, Sup Vigor prices are on the fall is purely based on supply and demand. Nothing new to do and not long ago only monk's were able to efficiently farm Ecto's. Now you have Monks and necros doing it.
Ecto was 16k when only monk's could farm them.
Ecto is 8k now that monks and necros farm them
Hmmm twice as many farmers half price. makes no since to me lol
Same goes for Sup runes everyone is at end game, so it only makes since to start farming for the stuff that build's you ingame bank.
Supply and demand rules economy!

simple reason for ecto price drop:
ecto & shards used to be exclusive material currency for the game.
now people are investing in sapphire & rubies as alternative currency. Spending more gold on those means less demand for ecto => lower ecto price. When people see ecto prices drop, it leads to mass panic and selloffs. Sort of like stock market crash.

lol well we have a couple month's until ch2. plenty of time to get your bank up for the new stuff. Every one of the Trader/Farmers in this game wants something that noone uses to become valuable. Rubies and sapphires I believe are just a speculation, they will most likely be just as worthless as ever!

Supply & Demand only, Anet has not touched the economy for a long time and usually would not. But this was the occasion when 55 Monks hit and runes were always ou of stock and weird things like yellow dye spiked to a few platinum.

People are cashing in their ecto for gold. Gold is still the currency of the game and probly always will be. The drop in price created a scare and others sold off.
Runes are dropping because people are deleting characters for more slots for chapter 2 and cashed them in for gold while prices was still high. Selling them to merchant lowered the price. Only reason sup abosorption went high in the first place was because aoe nerf caused a spike in w/mo farmers. All the runes prices are based on farming classes.
I saw SS not be affected by aoe nerf so I bought all the curse runes I could at 200g each. Sold them all back for 1k each. See how the market works and adjust to future changes and you can make some major gold.

How was FoW armor ever for 'skilled' players?
You need a reality check if you think where you hunt has any relation to skill. All PvE is easy, so by your logic everyone who does it is a nub.

Heh. I have to say, 80-90% of the people who play don't seem to exhibit much skill, they just get carried by the players who are. Beleive it or not, the game used to be harder. They nerfed so much of it, and not just the farming spots. Many of the missions were struggles, but I go back and take a look at them now, and they changed them... added a few npc helpers, took away some enemies, changed the way the lich fights... you don't HAVE to kill him three times now. And it wasn't just the missions. The maps themselves are easier. The second 15 point attribute quest used to have an ARMY of monsters in the way... now anyone can do it. Too many complainers not willing to challenge themselves for the rewards. I think ANET beleived they would have lost players if people couldn't get their last 15 points.
Anyways, I'm curious, just like the guy above. Does anyone know the math behind the trader prices? I've posted that question elsewhere, but I don't actually beleive anyone knows for sure. I think that little piece of the puzzle could be worth alot in understanding what is going on with the prices of materials.
And didn't people start picking up gems because of what Gaile said? Did she ever confirm anything? I hope you guys don't loose out on a fortune over a rumor.

All I know is I need to find something to invest in, because not being able to buy or sell anything because you simply cannot hold anymore, anywhere.. is bad. Ectos aren't striking me as a safe bet and there might be a huge loss in gem purchases if the new armor doesn't require them.... Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I have been in the underworld a total of 6 trips in the past 3 days and no ectos......The guys in my party got two.....two total in six trips. I dont get it. I here all these people saying how easy it is. I still need 30 more ectos.
I refuse to buy gold off ebay to buy armor....I have 1200 hours of play and still cant afford my fissure armor.

I believe that they will stay at a fixed price at some point, possibly 6k from trader, 4.5-5k trade value. People are still going to go for Chapter 1 Fissure armor, so the price will have to stop falling sometime. It would be awesome to get myself a set for my Mesmer, but if you can just buy them for 500g each, there's really no satisfaction in having Fissure armor.

offcourse there is satisfaction when you buy FoW armour for lets say 100k, you can show of and say:
"look at me I got my FoW armour 1.4 million cheaper then you"
Would be funny how ppl would react when suddenly price of FoW drops

Well, not any more satisfaction than what you'd get from 15k armor, and from finishing the quests to unlock the forgemaster. I think that if the prices went down that low, Anet would have many complaints from all the current wearers of fissure armor (myself included). But then, they haven't seemed all that worried about angry rich people in the past.........

that reeks of protectorism, i got this FoW armor and am rich, dont want anything to disturb my wealth. how conservative. GW is a living breathing world, things will change, if you like it or not.
And a boycot because if it, how sad.

That leads to the question of how many people spent endless hours farming and how many opted for ebay money to get fissure, or held hoh (which, apparently, can make you rich?)
Is it a sign that you're a good player? Hardly.

since ecto seems to be staying at 6k-7k, i'd say u still need alot of money to buy fissure armor. each fissure set needs 105 ectos and 105 shards. i'll just keep playing and barrage my way through tombs and hope for mutiple victo's bulwarks. play UW or FoW or tombs and hope for something good from those chests it ur main way of money after u finish the game

I think you might have missed my point. I am not disgustingly rich, I just know that I and many other people have spent a lot of time and effort to get our fissure armor, and it would be rather dissapointing to see someone who's hardly been playing for very long wearing the same armor that it took us hundreds of hours to earn. A game that offers very high-level rewards for extended play and then cheapens that reward once you've earned it does not seem very fun to me.
