Belly, I don't think there is any way Anet could keep track of all the pre-order keys. I feel pretty confident, that once you got your hands on the key, that's it, the key is yours no matter if you actually bought the game or not.

the preorder key is a separate purchase and is no more than a deposit on the game when you buy it.
find a place selling it for .99 cents (or giving it away) and use it. there is nothing commiting you to the purchase except how much you will lose by buying the preorder outright instead of trading it in for game credit

according to Anet we all have downloaded Factions already.
remember those monster downloads on both events?
what will happen is this.
with the preorder key you will have 24 hours early access from the 27th at midnight pacific time until the servers open to everybody at midnight pacific time on the 28th.
you will have 24 hours to input a Factions retail key from then until 11:59:59 of the 28th at which time Factions not chapter 1 will shut down until you enter the retail Factions key
most stores mail a bit early so most people get it by the 28th.
i pay 2 dollars extra for second day delivery and last year had my box by the 26th
hope this helps.
ALSO NO EXTRA SLOT FOR THE EARLY 24 HOURS WITHOUT A fACTIONS RETAIL KEY SO HAVE A SLOT EMPTY TO USE OR USE YOUR CHAPTER 1 CHARACTERS
IF YOU GET AND ENTER A RETAIL KEY THE EXTRA 2 SLOTS (MAY,SHOULD) BE AVAILABLE

Here's the way it works.
Your preorder key is only good for the bonus items and the 24hrs in advance. I talked to the local gamestop GM about this exact thing. What ANet is doing is the key only gives you teh items adn teh 24 hrs advance. You're locked out of your account if you fail to provide a valid Factions key within 24 hrs of the game's release. This means that ANet is expecting you to enter your Factions Key and honor your end of the preorder bargain. Otherwise, you're violating their terms of use and your account can be cancelled as per them. Remember, you're required by ANet to provide your information as accurate as their system allows.
Dude, don't screw around, just preorder and do it right. Besides, ANet's provided a great game that can be played without monthly fees. Why screw with a good thing?
EDIT:
oops.... didn't see Loviatar's post.
Still... Don't screw with them on it.

They do keep track of the keys (they know if it's been used).
You would get access to Factions for 1 day if the pre-order key is on your account. If the retail key is not on the account by the next day, you will get locked out of factions until the retail key is added to that account.
You can also add the pre-order key at anytime to get access to the pre-order items.

I don't think so, but I could be wrong.
The keys I'm talking about were in a Pamphlet in the Pre-order box.

NO
the only way to get a retail key by email is through Play NCsoft or by an online retailer that will do it and you trust to be holding the key and not make a copy of it.
they send you the box a bit early and if you are lucky you get it in time otherwise you wait until you get the retail box and key to activate Factions again

I saw a post from someone - sorry, can't remember who or where - who had messed up with their preorder key. They contacted support with the details and support deleted the key they'd used and sent them a new key. So you may want to try that.

So did I understand u right, you said because I have put my pre-order in my main account and I will not insert later the Factions retail, they can Cancel/clear/ban/delete my Prophecies Account?
|
I've only seen this mentioned in this thread, and I would doubt that they would do this, but I could be wrong. I don't believe they could cancel a Prophecies account for this as there was no separate agreement along with the preorder key I got, that said that I had to add a retail key to the account I add the preorder key to.

Another question if I do this like pre-order a new game and use my pre-order on my 2nd account and cancel my pre-order of my first account, will I later be able to insert any kind of key into my first account?
|
I don't see why not.

They do NOT cancel your account. Once the preview key expires, all factions content on your account will be locked just like the beta event until you enter a retail key. If you dont enter a retail key you simply wont be able to access Cantha or any of the Factions skills. Not sure what they do with the items. You wont lose your account. You dont even have to pay for a preview key. It wouldnt make any sense to do that.

What I find odd is I bought that pre-order kit that comes with the keycodes for the items and all that, then I pre-ordered the CE package... which oddly enough... comes with the same pre-order package lol. Now I got two key booklets.

That's ridiculous. I have to say that the manager doesn't know what he's talking about. That or you misunderstood him. To echo Kool Pajamas, what will happen is you're locked out of Factions-specific content. You'll still be able to play Guild Wars like you are now, just not Factions. Because you don't have it.
Getting your account cancelled because of that is taking it way too far, and would be the stupidest thing they've ever done. You are not entering a legally bound contract when you buy the Pre-Order edition that says you have to buy the final game or else you're banned. There's no "Pre-Order bargain". There's nothing like this is in any of their legal agreements. It's ludicrous.

Well, you can't remove the key and add it to your other account manually. Like was mentioned earlier, you can email support and see if they can change it for you. I'm betting not, though. However, you are not required to have a free slot in order to play 24 hours early. That is only if you want to create a new character. You can always bring your existing characters over to Cantha and play with them. It would probably be a better "evaluation" anyway. Unless you plan to spend all your time in the pre-searing equivalent.

If you can't email support and get it switched, just wait until you get the game and enter they key on your second account. I know it sounds like a lot, but a couple days isn't that big of a deal.
I'm not sure what you're talking about with the keys. A pre-order package is supposed to be bonus material for you if you decide to order the game before it's released. That's it. It's not really a trial or a demo. Some stores have decided to sell the packages independently, but you can use the money you put forward on it as a "discount" on the full game. I would try to find one of those if you just want the head-start key. You won't be banned from your account for not buying Factions later.
If you don't end up buying it later, you still have the pre-order items and everything. It isn't removed from your account, but then, they aren't that useful anyway. Unless you need a quick trapping staff or something similar.
