The ratio of new armor being bought to new materials being salvaged will be much different than it is currently. And the % of people farming, compared to questing initially will be much lower than it currently is. There's no way in hell material prices are going to go down.
I would sell almost all items right now. When factions comes out, people will want new skins, and none of the current skins (even the chaos axes and stuff) will be worth crap compared to what they are worth now. Mods, materials, runes, sigils.. those will all go up, while most items prices will go down.
There will be more new players however, so I'm sure you can still sell items with decent stats for a decent amount.. but that's just do to them being new. And new people aren't loaded with gold, so it's really a mute point.

We have a winner. All right except for one thing. New players can, sadly, eBay with the best of them...some newbies will have gold in hand and buy just about anything, just cause they can....
To them I have one thing to say....
Come right this way, I have an item you might like....

Silly Question...
As Cantha is a different world from Tyria, does that mean the Market is in effect different as well?
or should I put it like this..
Is it possible that the price of say..cloth might be different to the price in Cantha? or will all the materials traders share the same price?

That's what I took that quote to mean as well. I imagine we'll be seeing max mods on gold items more often, and maybe the cap on purple weapons' mods will be raised. Which I think is great, because I'm really tired of getting golds with absolutely horrid mods.
Oh, and as for rare Prophecies skins dropping in value. . . . What about all the new Factions only people who've never even heard of a Crystalline Sword or a Dwarven Axe before? Plus all the people who don't buy Factions? Rare Prophecies skins probably will take a dive when Factions is first released, but I wouldn't be surprised see them regain their former value after a bit.

All traders should have the same price.
If not, they'll equalize pretty soon as people will buy where it's lower, and sell where's it's higher (but I doubt they'll be different for exactly that reason).

I believe Vials of Ink will be comparatively more valuable in Factions. IIRC they are required for Ritualist armors.

I agree, we will see a spike in crafting matierials, common and rare. If the new chars use ecto for FoW we will see a spike in ecto too. Jadeite and Amber I think will spike too but dont save it, it will take a dive because of how incredibly common it will be, especially with those ppl joinin 12v12:go afk and make 500 faction. Im not saving up anything to make money, I think its stupid but some ppl will get rich, and some will loose lots. I wont pay any of the "opening" prices and wait a week to buy it.

The more common the max mod is the lower the price will be. Anet is about bring cost down not raising them. Why would they nerf something they put into place to reduce cost?

Yeah, the thing anet says means that purple and gold items will have better mods when they drop. i doubt they'd raise dmg to like 20^50. it messes up pvp too much to have people doing that much damage, or having like 50% skill recharge or cast times.
So Item stats won't be better, but drops won't be as terrible any more. no more gold defender -1 in stance as the only mod.

they will prob make u download all the factions data to your normal gw so u can view new items etc like the the pvp skins for the core prof's are still usable yet factions aint out, so they will prob give you data but you need to buy an access key to play factions...dunno to me that sounds logical.

What people say and do are not always the same. As of this time I don't think gold or purples have ever been bluffed in their drop quality. To the contrary, they have always be reduced. Reguardless, I look forward to getting better drops but do not expect those good drops to last, because I'd be willing to bet that the producers will nerf them in the future.
I hope I'm wrong

Yea, thinking about it again what you say makes sense.
But even so it would keep things interesting, and a bit more realistic.
oh, and it would be more of a reason to merge accounts so you can do 'cross-continent' trading xD

keep your "old school" skins on armor and weapons. By the time the 4th chapter comes out everyone will be asking you:
"That is a sweet bow man where did you get it!"
Because the majority of ppl will ditch the old skins each new chapter, and never use them .
