Yes you enter the CD-key in your main account “manage Keys”. And no you don’t get 2 slots (for six slots total) with the pre-order key, you must enter the retail version CD-Key to get the combined 6 slots.

ok the logic isnt that hard to understand but here goes.

buy either chapter as a standalone you get 4 slots and access to only that chapter.

are you all with me so far? good, then i'll continue

merge chapter one and chapter two and you will get access to both chapters the 2 new characters and 2 extra slots

now this is where people seem to be getting lost so ill try to clarify:

2 new characters = 2 new slots

They originally said we would have 1 extra slot. Now they give us two, and people still whine.

/sigh

Is it that surprising?
As it really doesn't make sense (sorry folks it doesn't, despite the line) the first time people hit it and see how they're limited from the getgo, oddly enough it isn't a positive reaction.

Slightly off topic, but I'll be buying Factions and merging with Prophecies. However, I'd like to get more slots so can I buy another factions or prophecies game and merge it with my already merged faction/prophecies account? If so, will I then get 4 more character slots from the third game or will it only give 2? Thanks in advance for any replies.

*Just for fun!* - Here's my thoughts on why we get an "insufficient" number of slots. Eventually area net will come out with a chapter that you will not be happy with the new characters. When this happens you'll still buy it for the new content and will use the slots for the old characters that you missed out on (or pvp). Just think if you hadn't been denied access to all the class and considered one of the next chapters to have characters you didn't like. In this situation, there is a a much smaller chance of a sale.

No. You get 4 slots for an unmerged account and 6 slots for a merged account, no matter how many keys you add.

Gaile has said a copyle of times though, that people in Anet are looking at the suggestion of buying extra slots.

As for 4+4=6 being odd, it is if the storage for a slot on a non-merged account is the same as for a slot on a merged account.

So, will having to keep track of missions and map exploration for two chapters mean potentially larger space for a slot on a merged account? If so, 6 slots on a merged account may take up more space than 8 slots spread over two unmerged accounts.

I don't know, man. Do you think 2 extra slots (2 extra months of gameplay as you put it) would make that much difference?

Voila. Theres your fuzzy math.
$10 for one slot? What a rip off...

Mind you it's rather obvious this could easily have been avoided if they expand the total number of slots (merged or otherwise) to be equal to the number of primaries. But then, that would discourage people from buying multiple copies of various chapters, which I suspect is what's going on here.

I actually agree with the OP: getting only two extra slots sux. All things considered, why should I get fewer slots than anyone else who buys Factions?

I'm not going to whine too much about, since I'm sure I can live with two, but it does seem stingy...

I would want more than 4 slots , 6 the way they are doing it is better. * would be better, and 32 would be awesome. But they arent and this has been brought up over and over, I guess people will continue to bring up this dead subject and argue it over...

And people will complain until AN listens.. If people had stopped argueing equality everytime they were told no, blacks would still be sitting at the back of the bus and women would still be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen without a political voice.

With the merging, AN said, ok, you don't have to sit in the back of the bus now, you can sit in the middle, and mind making me some bacon with these waffles, wench? btw, whens the baby popping out...

Good, ArenaNet should address this problem with more than just fuzzy market speak, and answer the big question of why.

OK, comparing slots to racism and sexism is just stupid.

Please take that back right now.

Anet isn't telling you do anything, if you don't like the product, don't buy it.

Speak with your wallet.

3 slots instead of 2 would work for me.

2 slots for the new characters
1 slot for pvp

I plan on merging my accounts to have 6 slots, but now I have a tough decision. I currently have 4 slots used for PvE, but I want to play PvP and its much easier to compete with a pvp character than pve because you can reroll your character to fit the needs of your group quickly. You can't do that with a pve character. If your missing an elite, then you have to drudge thru pve content to re-cap an elite that you've probably have capped before on other pve characters. If I keep my 4 pve characters, then I have a choice to either make 2 new pve characters for each new main profession, or choose 1 and leave the other slot available for pvp, or delete one of my 4 existing characters that I worked so hard to make good. A dedicated pvp slot of some type would make me a happy camper!

edit: This has been beaten to death and we're not gonna win on this issue. Give it up!

Keep in mind there's another expansion coming in 6 months, so there will be (hopefully) 2 more slots. If you've lasted a year w/o a PvP char, you could probably survive another 6 months...

But I agree, not having to keep a slot open for PvP would work for me as well.
