Like Omega said, this is a security problem and has pretty much nothing to do with TS or Ventrilo.

Years ago, clans used to have completely locked down sites, forums, chats. Back when TS was something new and weird, they were all secret too.

Hell, getting INTO a clan required a lot of backgroundchecks, interviews, interrogations, etc...

Our guild uses TS and you cant log in unless you have the password. I suggest you maybe get TS through a service and pay the 4 bucks a month to prevent spamage.

The public server is now more secure after the attack. It isn't public any more. Vent can do just about anything TS can, and it uses less computer resources, too. Plus I think it sounds better!

i do believe they have stated that they do plan on it. in the near future actually. definitely before chapter 3 comes out. i hope they stay true to their word. and to whoever said expect to pay for it. i dont recall them saying anything about paying for it, but i do recall hearing something at the same time i heard about this idea in general that on of the main dev's said it would follow the guildwars is a free game concept. which pretty much means no we wont pay for it.....

I don't see any reason why they couldn't have free ingame voice chat. Battlefield 2 already does it for no monthly fee. If greedy stinky sell-out EA games can do it for free, I'm sure freedom-loving puppy-kissing defender of righteousness Anet can pull it off.

well, if any guild that is participating in the tournoments would like to use my guilds (private) vent server, feel free to PM me in-game and ask.
its a vent server paid for by yours truly, with a 25 slot capacity (not the highest, but it works).
theres no reason a high-ranking gvg guild should be forced to use a public vent server.
it is passworded, and almost always has at least 1 admin on.

I could see how they could do it free, the GW client including a voice chat doesn't really put the chat down their line but actually directly connects the users to each other using the bandwidth of the players once it's set up (once you bring up the voice chat).

Dunno if I explained it properly or if it makes sense..

Seems enough people already know the guild that it was, not that it is particularly surprising. Oh well, play dirty and expect to come out looking like shit.

Very true, public vent FTL. You shouldn't be gvging in a public vent, atleast use a private channel and turn off pages.

This is wrong, or your mistaken somehow..

TS uses CONSIDERABLE less resources than Ventrillo does, this is the single reason why I insist on using TS over Ventrillo!

I know ALOT of people who use 56k modems and play GW, and can no-way use ventrillo! I even know people who HOST TS servers using a crappy computer and a 56k connection lol!

Also, I know your on a public server, so both TS and VT is open for attack, but Ventrillo's does seem to be more susceptable to attack and has more backdoor loops in it.

anyway, I dont want to make it into a TS Vs VT debate, and I sympathise with your attack..but.. dude! Get a private server!

Fact: TS has a more clunky Interface, and poorer sound quality.

Something happened to our Ventrilo server last night.

All of a sudden we all lagged, and Ventrilo dropped all users. Then it started erroring, and almost froze my computer....

And thats a private ventrilo server.

:\ very weird it was. had to go to backup TS server.

Uhh, it was a private channel and our leader had pages turned off. It will still register with the server and make you lag. Thats what the warning ws about.
