Yeah, that could be true. For those "old timers", where there a lot of changes from the last GW beta before the original launch?

While i agree that the faces look absolutely retarded, if you are SO upset about a little thing you MIGHT want to consider playing the Sims 2 and not Guildwars.
Man that new elementalist face looks like she is a complete STONER.
THe males look even worse, their armor too.

You'd figure they'd want to attract new players, though. Think of all those invites that have been sent out. Sure, it's a beta, but it's also a huge marketing event--a chance to show off your stuff and get new folks interested in GW. What impression will people trying GW for the first time be left with?

I hope there are more faces as well, generally disappointed.
However at least on the male side (at least speaking for mesmer, warrior, monk) any more choice is a saving grace...

That was from one of the 1st preview events. In the LAST one they had, everyone was in pre-searing ascalon. If I remember right, it was possible to get to post-searing, I'm not sure. But I remember perfectly what it all looked like, it looked the same, and that is from the 1st or 2nd event.
The only change I remember occuring at all was that hundred blades was non-elite, though I think that change came some time after release.

The point here is that the devs are going to stop in at the main forum sites and gauge the response, and if we don't like something then this is the place to discuss it. It was the first and one of the few disappointments I had in my initial experience with the FPE, however I didn't run over here to make a thread about it. When I saw that others felt the same way, then I added my voice to the discussion.
If you don't agree and like the faces, then great! No problem for you, enjoy! However, there's no point in coming here and insulting or flaming those who don't agree with you. It's not about being anti-asian, it's about being anti-ugly.
Quote:
What you have to remember is that this is an asian setting, so characters you make here will have that sort of theme to them.
|
My favorites are some of the more genuinely asian-looking characters, so that's not what I'm commenting on. Asian isn't synonymous with unnattractive, and many of the faces are simply ugly.
Quote:
I'm really not into looking at peoples teeth. A lot of the faces have visible teeth.. Don't really like that.
|
Agreed. Go through and count the number of female faces across all the characters that have their mouths open the entire time... like what, that's supposed to give us a "sexy, pouty" look or something? Or are we supposed to assume that asians don't breathe through their noses?
Quote:
Seems like people don't have a taste of Asian aesthetics beyond Anime and import car magazines.
|
/rolleyes
This is much less "asian-themed" than I was expecting it to be based on all of the hype. It's even less genuine and more "americanized" than Jade Empire turned out to be.

LMAO, you would stop playing because the way the faces look?! you dont even see them 3/4 of the time. well when you quit ill take all your items and gold.

the faces have improved big time. i count like all but 5 incredibly hideous and constipated faces in the original. almost all (except the male mesmer and elementalist, they're still fugly) of them have improved, especially the female monks. be nice to not see that plastic surgery gone bad female monk face that people seem to be in love with. (the one with the huge eyes and bad makeup :\ )
for the first time i was able to make a non-constipated warrior, having more than one face choice, and no mesmer with crooked lips and a disease i like to call skinnyface.

LOL yeah they made major changes between the last "beta" event and the actual (prophecies) release. People can try to revise GW history and bend stories to their will but fact is GW has improved and continued to improve over time. Just give them time, they will continue to improve and make better stuff.
the 3 biggest things GW needs is the ability to equip weapons in town (to show off bling)
the second is if a person clicks on another player they can view the players bling (i.e. weapons)
and an auction house (linked to every city) to reduce spam in general chat. Then GW will almost be perfect
(of course character slots and playing as other species/races is another debate for another time)
