Every class has counters. A ranger counter the assassin nicely as well. Throw Dirt, Poison Arrow and an evasion stance makes mincemeat of them. Add in Hunters Shot or Pin Down, and you have one hurting assassin.

I'm not even going to post up my build, lest it get nerfed and overused by noobs so much that it becomes completely useless in the long run. All I'll say is that it's GOOD. All you have to do is think SMART. I think I'm better at playing assassin because all I've ever played was rangers and mesmers, which helps to get you in the right mindset. Just make sure that you never run out of energy and you should be able to keep yourself shiny. BTW- Why would you farm energy off of one dead body? Isn't that useless?

That would be the Assmo’s then
Yet another blanket statement condemning a profession. Anyone who is prepared to put thought into their character like best 2nd profession, skill combinations and actually take time to learn ‘their trade’ can be an asset to any group.
Let’s not condemn Assassins to the same fate as the poor old Mesmer, who is one of the most underrated professions in the game

Mesmers ARE NOT underrated in the game, I hate when people say that.
It is a fact that mesmers have a hard time getting into pve groups, but thats NOT because people "underestimate" their potential.
PvE is ALL about Dmg - dmg, dmg, dmg. Theres no real reason to have any type of none-damaging support character like mesmers play, because just pure damage kills the enemy faster and cleaner.
People KNOW mesmers are great support characters. Big Interupts, enchant strips, E-drain, etc, etc, etc. Its just that stuff isnt needed in PvE because its ALWAYS faster and more effective to just brute force the pve monsters, simply because of their programming.

No offence intended and I agree with what you say regarding PVE but I still think I am partly right in what I say. It was intended as an example against the bias of the original thread content and no more.
Unfortunately very few bother to understand beyond the character/s that they play which is unfortunate as many aspects of the game are team based.
It’s regrettable that the ‘hack & slash’ mentality is here to stay in PVE. If as much thought was put into the creation of PVE as PVP teams we may have a few more better players in the game.

The problem is that people are trying to play assassins like they have armor that isn't made of paper. First, assassins are not meant to charge ahead (Death's charge is more of a "get to the caster" skill). The real objective of the shadow skills is to protect the assassin and allow him to get away, to do hit and runs. An assassin waits until the tank draws aggro, unleashes his combo on a target, continues attacking until he is struck back, and then goes away to regen a little, only to come back and finish the job. Assassins teleport to the casters in the back, they don't go toe to toe against warriors (though I must say assassins are perfectly capable of killing warriors).
In fact, assassins have a very useful elite skill that makes them completely impervious to all forms of damage for a certain time, and then lowers their health dramatically. It's a perfect image of the hit and run mentality that assassins should have. You get in, you attack the monk while you are invincible, and then you dispel recall and get back to your team's monk. Repeat untill all the enemies are dead.
The problem we have right now is that there are no thanks to draw the aggro at the start of fights, since all the melee characters are assassins.

Best assassin is an A/N that can death nova himself. You know, to further intimidate the enemies as he is unleashing his deadly combo of ultimate ninja doom.
*snicker*
EDIT: Don't forget to take corpse explosion if you have another assassin buddy in the party who's going to charge in with you. There is a chance that you'll die second.

Misinformation my eye. I have yet to see one assassin that does not incur 60% DP within the first 5 minutes of any given mission or quest.

Fine fine... you too, may have a cookie 0_o. Anyway. I have yet to see you in game, so I cannot say anything about how good you are either. You just tore a hole through your own statement by saying that all assassins get 60% in 5 minutes flat, when you haven't even seen most of them, or any good ones. GG.

No I said that I have yet to see an assassin that does not incur 60% DP in the first five minutes of the mission. That is not to say I have seen all of them, not by a long shot, nor is it meant to imply that all assassin players are bad assassin players however it does say that of the ones I have seen they are all worthless. Now if you take that as a statistical cross section it would mean that the majority of assassin players are worthless but that's painting it in too broad of a stroke. The fact remains though that I have yet to see a good assassin. You are taking my words and putting them into a different context from what I intended them to be, which isn't your fault persay. I should have been more clear. I hope this makes it more clear for you. I will admit that I will have reservations about grouping with assassins until some really good hard and fast noob proof builds are figured out.
