:::SPOILERS::: Quite possibly a worst storyline than Prophecies?:::SPOILERS:::
Title says all. The whole thing. Where to start?
Shiro Tagachi. Unless I'm missing something, he killed the emporer told him the emporer would kill him (Let me get this straight... because Shiro is a good warrior)? C'mon... you can do better than that. Even the death scene was generic and cliche.
Ok, so now that we've established that Shiro's motives were based purely on his idiocy, let's question why he got his powers. Being an exceptional warrior is one thing, but I think A.Net would have established why his magic were greater than the powers of the tombs of the gods Vazier unraveled. Sure, the tombs sank a continent, but Shiro's cry turned a see to jade, a forest to stone, spawned a plague which essential turns countless people into zombie slaves, and made the forest's guardians go insane.
While I often wonder what the hell the writers were thinking when they made the story, I also wonder what the cenematic director and voice actors were smoking. I applaud A.Net for trying to include more action in their cenematics, but it truly is not working. The fact that they use the in-game emote/battle animation for 90 percent of all cenematic movements becomes much more apperant as you watch someone die from a swing of a sword that did not even touch them. Personaly, I thought whole cenematic where Shiro confronts Nika's anscestor were hillarious and horribly done at the same time.
And last but not least, the voice acting. Nuff' said.

What BD said.
I also enjoyed the fight between Shiro and Nika. I thought it was both clever and creative.

Don't expect Planescape Torment around every corner.
Guild Wars Factions has good story and interesting characters (especially those four 'angels' They are über cool ;D . I don't mind if in-game cinematics aren't like in some Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes or something - they are still pretty good.

Only good in how much it sucked...like a B rate horror movie...THEIR LIPS DO NOT MOVE.
but I still love this game...I just take the movies as comedic entertainment instead of serirously.

Their Lips don't move, because the game covers many languages. They would have to lip sync the animation to every language. The fact that the lips don't move should not hinder your experience.

i disliked the story line a bit, it was a bit too simple, something like: OK guys, he's the bad guy, we need this and this to kill him. OK that didn't work, now go to him and kill him! it was a bit too simple for me

it was better than Charr --> Dwarves --> Krytans --> Jungle people --> Hanging out in the sand --> More dwarves --> kill some titans GG
the reason i say that is because the storyline jumps around so much its like...wtf happend to the ascalon people? and Why did we go into the jungle again? at least this game sticks with one storyline...quit complaining or dont play the game

Yes, storyline in both chapters sucks
And the fact that there's a grand total of 2 good voice actors there, for Emperor and Elder Rhea, doesn't really help. But Guild Wars isn't really about storyline, fortunately.

I dont know about you guys, but GW has a nice storyline. A very typical RPG-ish storyline (Have one specific quest, then get side tracked to a much larger and more important thing going on in the world).
I havent finished factions yet (lvl 5 Mo/Rt!!) so i cant comment on its storyline.

Well you know how in some of the missions there are like statues or plaques that you can read? The stories of how the 8 guardians came about. (Ref: Tahnnakai Temple) IMO some of them are really really interesting... but brief... I can't use any other explanation other than.... brief.
I want to see more interaction with the actual skills and the storyline. Some of the factions skills (like prophecies) have skills that are named after npc characters (ref: Jamei's Gaze) but there's no storyline to it... that I know of
Someone care to point me the way?

The problem is the plot "twists" in Prophecies could kill a person if hit head on, but in Factions, there are plot holes big enough to fly a 747 through.

Such a good game.
But indeed; with what Anet is trying to accomplish, they probably don't have the resources to make everything top notch. Obviously cinematics and voice acting weren't a primary concern, and rightly so in my opinion.

Haha indeed the in-game movies suck, yesterday, in a movie somewhere at the start (near market place or something), shiro was in it, only so was a tengu, who actually was attacking him whlie he was talking! I mean, come on, an almighty ghost, walking towards another person, talking to that person, and getting stabbed in the back by a tengu, with full battle animations. just walk away crippled from a warrior attacking you, and see how silly taht looks.
*thumbs down*

Heh, I think what he is trying to say is the plot in Prophecies was multifaceted (Charr, Dwarves, White Mantle, Mursaat) with a few twists thrown in (Vizier, Rurik) whereas the plot in Factions is linear, simplistic, and rather thin (one real enemy: Shiro).
It feels to me like they didn't really put much thought nor effort into the Factions plot. It's like they just said, "We need an enemy!", invented one, and threw it all together in a straight line for us to walk along.
As for why we still play and comment here, it's because we loved Prophecies and want A.Net to know that we weren't satisfied. It was one among my favorite games of all time. I would have gladly waited another 6 months for A.Net to flush out the story in Factions and make it the equivalent of the first chapter in quality and depth rather than making my feel like a killing machine along for a ride on a roller coaster with no bumps and one track.
What I don't understand is why Trolls feel the need to just come in, shout "Stop playing then, whiner!", and think that it's in any way constructive

Whoever said I hated Guild Wars? Why don't you stop jumping to blind conclusions just because I find the storyline in both games less than stellar?
The storyline in both games seem to be done by amateurs. When I read the lore for the manuals and thewebsite, I think to myself "Wow. This is going to be a great story". Then I actually play through the game and become dissapointed (happened both times).
As for being called a whiner, what exactly am I whining about? Whining is usually when you want something changed. I'm just noting that the storyline sucks and hope for a decent discussion that might change my opinion about the story line.
Because you made such a generic and thoughtless post, I will to:
Go away troll!

Personally I don't find the stories all that interesting myself. It's just sheer curiousity that makes me follow the storylines. Or in factions case if I want my exalted aegis I must follow the storyline.
