I hate it when people judge wammos as noobs because some of us are real good at it and we have things to back up Mending for energy and as for the FDS, if it's max dmg I don't care. Might as well get Mark of Rodgort and have that FDS wammo swing away for some burning if there was an ele in the group.

When did wammoes, i.e. warrior/monks, get access to elementalist skills? You can only have one secondary profession, can't you? Did an update slip by me?
Back on topic: There was once this guy in my guild who kept asking almost every single one of us if we could solo UW. I was stupid enough to say yes, and before I knew it he was coming along for a duo run with his fire elementalist. He thought that he would be able to nuke the aatxes, i.e. use meteor shower and FIRE STORM on them while I tanked. Seems like the AoE patch went by him un-noticed, huh? -,- Either way, he died at the first group every time, leaving me to do the rest of the run while he laid there on the ground. Because I'm a decent guy (I hate myself for that), I felt compelled to pick up and pass on any ectoes that dropped for him...
Thank goodness he didn't stay on the team for too long. I was beginning to run out of excuses for us not to go on "duo runs".

No, you're right, you can only have skills from two professions. However, just before going in to UW, it's a standard thing for one of us to loudly proclaim that my partner's char (who's usually at R/Mo) is going to take firestorm down there gets rid of the people who you don't want in the group real fast.
Talking about UW though... we ended up down there with a monk whom I doubt has any idea what certain skills are. The first indication came when, before taking aggro from anything, one of our players lost half life. This being the monk, I figured some type of energy managment, but oob normally doesn't do that much damage. Our warrior then announces he has Bip on him. The other warrior (my partner) then whinges about the lack of protection coming from that monk. So I watch him for a bit, and find him casting mending (not sure on whom though).
I've experienced a mo/me using illusion and the only heals were heals for himself at elona.. and we thought he was a real monk for a bit. A monk who casts Bip on a warrior.. and I'm waiting for the monk who takes firestorm to UW next.

i've actually got a few from just now in fow:
party 1:
the stereotypical wammo that runs around rushing, so i politely ask him if we can slow down, he retorts that i'm slow and a noob so i tell him that i need to regen energy (me being a nuker) he replies that we have a battery to which i point out that it's no good against exhaustion. less than 5 minutes later the entire party is dead and we haven't even done the first quest.
party 2:
this was fine, until all the monks left and it was just me and two wammos so we decided to go to the beach and i noticed that they both had healing breeze/mending on them.. then it got worse... i died and neither of them had a res...
in another party for fow, there was a fellow 'nuker' or so i thought, but i started checking on her and find that she only casts meteor shower, fireball and the rest are mes skills x.x then at one point people are dying and you'll never guess what she's doing... standing way out of range calling me an idiot for attempting to help kill the mobs. and once again it gets worse, when most of the party are dead she proclaims that it couldn't possibly be her fault at all because she has 1.8mil xp
another story but from my ranger in a trapper party, one of the 'trappers' only has 2 traps with him, as well as his pet and marksmanship skills.. luckily he didn't have any spirits that we needed and so it was manageable.

On the last mission i did in desert, and then in dragon cave, or whatever its called, I was group leader. I had a pretty balanced group and the mission was going pretty good, and then i realize that we have no fire shower, meteor shower or other nuker spells. so i watch the ele-- he is using a bow and all ranger bow skills no ele skills whatsoever and the really crazy thing is it happened in 2 mission, back to back, different ppl! i had another story, but i cant remember it now...

the noobiest thing ive ever saw was when a lvl17 me/r tried to trade his 3 red dyes in heroes ascent for a gold crystaline sword.
Another nooby thing ive ever seen was when aother guy lvl18 in heroes ascent said "rank 0, with 0 fame LF Exp r9+ IWAY Group! I ascended with infused armor and i got ALL 175 Attribute points."

I was on my Ele and was doing Thunderhead Keep mission (this was after the AoE nerf and before the Fire Storm buff). We had a balanced group, including a Wammo. I was playing an Air Ele. After the first few mobs, he asks me, "Why aren't you nuking?" I tell him that nuking is not that effective. He proceeds to yell at me and tells me to bring Firestorm because he uses Hamstring so the monsters will get stuck in Firestorm (like the GW box contains). I asks him what is so bad with being an Air Ele, and he says, "---- YOU, STUPID NUB!" and leaves...sighs.
Also, I was Bonding for SF farming, and the Stance Tank brought Galrath Slash, Thrill of Victory, and Desperation Blow. That might not be THAT bad, but he kept using Thrill of Victory when the target had more than 50% health...
There was this other Stance Tank, and we told him to get the gear, but he said, "No! How do you expect me to attack and kill then?!"
Then, there was this SS Necro (still Bonding SF), and in GF, he said I HAD to Barrier AND Bond everyone. I ask him why and he calls me a noob. I proceed to do that anyways, and kindly asks him for a Blood Ritual (I was maintaining 10 enchantments and my normal build had no need for Mantra of Inscriptions). He replies saying he had no Blood Ritual... I proceed to take the Bonds off (as I use Essence Bond and not Balthazar's Spirit) because the casters weren't taking enough damage for Bond to be useful and he calls me a noob for not being able to maintain 10 enchantments. Then he started yelling at everyone because they weren't doing as well as he wanted. Everyone left, but before the Healer Monk and MM Necro left, they said I was doing fine ^^. The SS was a pain...

I got a good one last night,
just in pre-searing with my Mo/Me at level 8, so decided to finish that level off with some charr hunting, the normal knock up I was using meant against most groups i could lure and end up soloing them, but to get in, you need sum1 so I grabbed myself a PuG.
He was level 6 and no second profession, but so was I the night before on my first hunt with that char, so I didnt care much, especially since he said he was going to heal / prot, which I thought was great, I could drop a few stats out of healing prayers and into smites / illusions to be a bit mroe offensive.
We got to the first group and i tell him to hang back so i can lure, he moves back, I lure them out a bit, he chargest past me with healing breeze and a prot spell on and into the crowd. Breeze ran out before he got there, and needless to say he died fast, which left me to try and take that group, without decently being able to heal / prot myself as I was expecting that from him.
I wasnt happy.

This has got me wondering......is there some arcane exploit where you can form a lvl 20 char and somehow initate a direct mind/game interface to gain the requisite knowledge to play it reasonably competently......
If not, then I suppose we were all noobs at some point. As far as I can see, what we have here are mildly amusing anecdotes about bad gameplay, and as we all know, that's not exclusive to noobs
I tend to play an ele with all mesmer skills, and though I would probably not qualify as a noob on gameplay time, I'm still learning from mistakes.

I might be considered a noob. I first let someone run me to Droks, to get myself armour.
Than I went back to Ascalon City, to do all the quests and exploring my way through the game. I quested my way to Amnoon Oasis, and now I'm stuck. I do this all with Hench, because random players are either far to low lvl for it or they don't respond to strategy tips. Nobody really cares that I'm still loading the zone (They are way to much in a hurry), and "Regen" means nothing to them.
I am not able to keep my henchies alive. They take to much damage and way to fast for me to heal them. Orison, Dwayna's, Heal other and Heal Party just doesn't cut it for me.
I'm not learning anything either. Tried different henchies, but they just take to much damage.
So, I might be considered a noob. I am not learning.

Did Hells one day to cap Mind Burn, and help out on the mission. Other 7 have never done it before. Had all the right guys, and winter too. Needless to say, they got hammered over and over and over. Sparks were destroying them, well us. I survived each slaughter though, and rez'ed the party back up. We went most of the way with 45 dp minimum. While I was on bonus lol. We finished the mission though, and bonus.
@Kitty... are you stuck trying to get to the missions, or stuck trying to do the missions? If you are in the netherlands, and Im in germany, I can help you... PM me if you want.

This one time i was helping out a guildmate with the ruins of surmia mission.
A N/E joined our party.
when we started the mission i saw that the N/E had a sword and a shield equipped.
I told him (nicely) that swords an shields work best on warriors not on necro's.
So he gets a hammer out of his inventory and continues

Probably just a scammer. Some moron in LA yesterday kept trying to convince me that a Major Rune of Vigor was a fair trade for a +30 health staff wrap. When I said no way (naively assuming he just didn't know any better), he modified the trade to throw in two blue dyes
Whatta great deal, wish I hadn't passed that one up.
Anyway, noobiest thing ever: me
Yesterday I joined a team for Ice Caves of Sorrow. I confused my shield's 9 tactics requirements with my Fellblade's 12 sword requirements, set both to 9, and told the team I was ready.
I tried to fix it with 2 seconds left by taking points out of inspiration and strength, but I didn't get enough out before the mission started to fix the steep sword requirement.
I explained what I did and they were just like "well, do your best", so I told them I would just be a meatshield, which worked out okay in the end. I basically just ran around dragging mobs off the casters and taking a whipping.
Must've done something right though, because they kept me on for the Iron Mines (at which I point I fixed my reqs), and I didn't die in either mission. Even went toe-to-toe with our group's ranger against Markis so he could cap Barrage.

I believe someone has already commented on the newb vs noob thing. Nonetheles, I'm sure we've all done something very noobish at one time or another.
Biggest noob I've ever seen I saw for the first time at the Frost Gate mission. He was a lvl6 R/Mo who was advertising himself as a "great healer". The only skills he had for healing were mending and healing breeze. The group took him anyway because we were one short, the team was a complete disaster - but somehow we finished the mission and bonus
Anyhow I saw the same guy about 2 weeks later at Riverside. He was lvl13 and he was adverstising the same way: lvl13 great healer!

At least they have a rez sig. Yesterday, accepted an invite to monk for the Nolani Academy mission. Things were going okay until the big, bad warrior insisted we do the bonus and ran, with the tome, straight into a group of about seven ghosts. Didn't stand a chance. Everyone but him goes down--he dropped the tome and ran. I was standing back, but when he ran, they all ran after him, and one crippled me before I could get away. So now he's the only one standing. Everyone says, "Rez the monk." He says, "I got no rez. I'm a warrior."
Could write a book about noobs in GW, but I'll stick to one time that's more funny than anything. When my monk went from pre to post, she was paired with an N/Me who did nothing in battle but use a sword. Needless to say, we didn't win.

I had my noob moment. I was healing the whole party, and didn't realize that Dwayna's Kiss didn't work for me. I died two times, before I finally got the picture. Searing Heat is a bitch with puppies
|
That sounds like my noob moment. Very first character, pre-searing, doing the quest to keep Paulus alive while he retrieves the artifact from the catacombs. I didn't realize that I could use Orison of Healing on myself. I thought I could only use it to heal him. Barely survived.
Someone mentioned something about going out with several members from the same guild. I hate doing this. Often, they've discussed in advance some strategy or have specific goals in mind, and they need one or two people to round out the party. Unfortunately, they don't fill the newcomers in. You know how when you self-invite yourself and you can see the composition of the party? I wish there was a way to do this without inviting yourself first. I'd like to be able to hover the pointer over someone's head and see who's in the group. I'm too polite to back out once I've self-invited myself and been accepted, even when I think, "uh-oh" at the level 5 in the desert. It would be nice if the group composition included guilds, so I could avoid groups with more than half the members from the same guild.
