whoa
Whoa, you resurrected the thread, kudos to you!
But yes, with the release of factions I am disappointed that there is no new race....
especially on the part of tengu! >.O
COME ON ANET! IF YOUR GOING TO MAKE A TENGU NPC PLAYABLE THEN MAKE THEM AS PLAYABLE RACES! THIS IS JUST TEASING US AND YOU KNOW IT!
Heck they even said themselves they were looking up on new races for future chapters FAR before the release or even announcement of factions.
You better pick up the ball for chapter 3 ANET -.- i'm watching you and I have people in high places... meaning they are stoned because they are losers... but still... watch your back.

Surprised no one's mentioned tengu. (Edit: Too late! )
You could have small differences, possibly. Say, one race gets a bit of extra energy built in, one race gets some extra armor, something like that, if you wanted to make it different. Like say Tengu could get an extra 5/10 armor on top of whatever they're wearing, as a 'racial bonus'. And if you want to keep humans the same, subtract something else from tengu - like -5 energy or something. I dunno.

I agree Anet completely screwed up. They should have included Orcs with lightsabers! Everyone likes orcs, and everyone likes starwars. Where are the orcs with lightsabers?! Who cares about two stupid new proffesions. I'm totally switching to WoW. Atleast they know what gamers like. Orcs with lightsabers FTW!

It wouldn't surprise me if anet introduced new races but at a required a cost. Kinda like being able to pay 10 bucks for two new character slots. The races would be the humanoid ones in the game like the charr, dwarves or tengu. I fail to see any valid negetive reasons as to why this can't happen. It would give the game more diversity and that can only be a good thing. More diversity means the game would be more appeasing to individual players. As it looks right now the different races only seem to be different player skins. The enemies in the game follow the same classes and use the same skills as the human players with the exception of a small few. Those few being non humanoid. There is also the monster skill some enemies and even ally npcs seem to have but that wouldn't carry over and can stay where it is. So in short the addition of new races would merely be a different skin. A tengu warrior instead of a human warrior. You have all the same skills and would wield the same weapons and offhands and would even wear armor that would have the same armor rating. It would only look different.

I think dwarves and elves would be a nice option.
I also would like to see an expansion for tyria, those areas that arent explored would be awesome to play the char side. It would also make PVP have another element to it.
But special stats for different races could mess up the balance. Just make it the same AL and such, just different skins for the armor.

Like I said in another thread like this one, and agree with Rollntider, NO STATS! JUST SKINS! I had already giving an example in another thread with dwarf and stats and I will say it again.
First off: Stats racial bonus = umbalanced char and pression on the player.
Take the example on Dwarve with Hammer +1 for Racial bonus. Players will feel much obliged to play with a hammer if they take Dwarve and not else. Its just nonsense to keep the game balanced. Same thing if we take Elve with Marksmanship bonus. I prefer my little Tyrian Ranger. So, no stats please! I dont want to see a +17 Hammer Mastery Race or +17 Marksmanship!
Secondly: Hammer is good in PvP. Hammer = Dwarve. I dont need to tell more.
They're already put Cathan/Tyrian Race selection, which its a good way to put more races later. Tengu can be the other choice since the peace with them (except those who live in snow Area) or maybe the humans/humanoids of Chapter 3.
In other words, wait and see. I dont really care if its Anthro, Humans, Hybrid, Undead, etc. for another race.... just..... no stats.....

Actualy I remember the first teaser of guild wars ever in a magazine had an elf woman castor in it.
Before it's release they stated that they only had human in this (prophecies) chapter, but future chapters would see new races.
Hopefully it is still in the works, I am with the OP....every one being human is YAWN YAWN YAWN BOREING...
Personally I think they did as much as they could with the time they had..and new races were not high enough on the hit list.....
Still hope to see them in the future chapters

why do people keep asking anet to charge us 10 bucks here and 10 bucks there? go play a MMORPG that charges monthly. Why not Anet just realese the things we want in those expansions we are already paying for? That makes more sence.
Why not make an expansion and call it Guild Wars: Tyrian Charr invasion. It would allow you to play the char side of Tyria. Those empty spaces in the map would be char territory. Your choices could be Charr/Grawl/Those nasty Mountain dwarves/ and Tengu (since you do fight a fair share of tengu). It would add another thing of storage (for only the species characters) You can also play as a dwarf for the Human side. No trade could be between the new bad side except at a neutral city market where trade occured at an auction house / market area where both sides visted.

It may not meet the CLASSIC MMO critque, but with nearly 2.5 million players at this point.... its massive, its multiplayer, and last time I checked, its online. And with 16 man missions now, it is starting to fit up with WoW in some regards. Sure, it lacks the everyone on the same map bit, but hell.. uhh.. Jeff Strain was one the inventors of WoW, and wanted his unique MMO to play more like his MASTERPIECE Diablo2. So you can take that idea of everyone on the same map and respawning monsters, and shove it where the sun don't shine, kthxbai.

So you could not come up with an intelligent thought to counter my idea so you decided to spout some incoherent psycobabel?
Its a forum to discuss ideas, if you have a valid reason why you don't like the idea, give the reason why you dont like it. Instead of spouting off crap. If you feel this isnt a place to discuss ideas then one of us is in the wrong place. Would you care to tell me where such a place is to discuss guildwars past present and future?
thank you

still, it would expand on the game for different points of view, like how the tengu somewhat disdain humans and how the kitsune help humans (again referring to Magic The Gathering kitsune). In fact, there could be a whole new two sided war between the two races for another canthan (or possibly a brand new region?) expansion, making for three playable races in the set: Kitsune, Tengu and Humans (who must pick a side between the two).
