I'm fine with playing a human for now, and I would be fine with it if Anet never decided to add new playable races. I was sort of hoping to be able to choose between a few races when I first started playing the game, but after playing for a little while I saw that it wasn't really necessary.
Some of the other posters in this thread are right, Guild Wars is trying to accomplish something original here - both in terms of content and game mechanics. That's not to say Anet should actively try to differentiate itself from WoW in every aspect possible, but they should feel free to pursue whichever creative path they choose (and not feel beholden to pursue whichever path they choose not to). Almost half of the complaints I read about Guild Wars is that it breaks from MMO "tradition", and that it should conform to certain fantasy standards (even though there's no such thing). Just to point out, by purchasing and continuing to play Guild Wars, you are supporting the gameworld created by the developers - it's like saying "I hate 'House', but I'm going to flip it on and watch it anyway."
....um, back on topic, if Anet decided to add playable races in a future expansion, I'd prefer purely cosmetic races. Anything else will be a nightmare to maintain in terms of game balance.

Last time I checked what they meant by new races were the races of monsters and NPC's.
She didnt specifically say they were going to be playable.

Personallly, I do not want to play another race. I'm happy playing a human spellcaster male because by golly! Thats what I am!
...so least all the tests say

I think new races would add a nice touch to the game.Theres ppl already rpging as elves and such. However i agree they should avoid the Tolkien races like dwarfs and elves.

Also i think that warriors in the game look to much alike.Wearing different armour of different colours is cool, but many still have the same faces and hair.

Yeah, I don't think we need to be able to play Dwarfs. We know ANET said we'll never see any Elves of any sort in the game. I don't care if people 'pretend' they're a Dark Elf by playing a Ebony Skinned Necromancer with white hair. Fine, pretend.
But, it would be fun for LATER in the game (chapter 3) to throw in a *possiblity* of playing another race. Say maybe like the Murrsatt? I've said this before though, I think we'd have to EARN the right to play as these races (IE: 1,000 Mursatt Tokens, 100,000 Gold, 2 Million XP = Murrsatt Character)

Slightly off topic, but I've heard Gaile say that new faces were being added. Once again, no specific date.
And I hate to do this but, Asheron's Call gave a primary and secondary color for dye purposes. Something like that would really allow for more diversity and some truly ugly armor.

Fixed!
In any case, just no. No new races. I don't want to see legions of soloing mursaat monks with massed xp.
If you want to be 'special', then play a mesmer. What do you think we're for?

Hm hm...just for the record, I'm not crying out for new races, nor am I gonna whine when they don't show up :-P. I'm just maintaining that it could be done and it'd be nice to see. That said...no Mursaat...>_<
New races, please. Or at least races which haven't been wiped out by Titans.

Uh, they have "spells". Thus, they are spellcasters. Rangers and Warriors do not have "spells". They are not spellcasters.

By that logic, Assassins are Spellcasters too. They have plenty of spells. Hm hm...but by most people's definitions, Assassins are not spellcasters :-P
Admittedly, they aren't a physical class either. Assassins really are hybrid chars, a melding of both. Armor between caster and weaponist (though leaning overmuch towards the caster end >_<...come on Anet, is 75AL really too much to ask?), and a skill set focused on balanced use of a mixture of spells and physical attacks.
And just to stay on topic, they'd be even cooler hybrid characters if you could choose an alternate race to play them as XD.

Argggggggh, SWG all over again!
Ugly armour FTW
I could live with purely asthetic races - no bonuses
And yes, mesmer are rather special

uh, Avicara, and you just wander outside mineral springs waiting for groups to arrive where you beat them to snot.
On a side not, playing something like the Tengu 'Might' work if you couldn't interact with humans, you'd have your own citys and small quests. Maybe some pvp zones. However I don't think its a good idea.

Mesmers are special :P I'm currently have one in Pre-Sear and I refuse to bring him Post untill I can get him ran to Citadel and get him sparkly 15k Noble Armor - Tho any suggetsions otherwise?
But yes, I wouldn't mind seeing Asthetic Races. The Murrsatt aren't really bonus worthy once you think about it. In the game, characters aren't effective of them against the Murrsatt before the Infusion because the crafters of the armors aren't knowledged todo this before hand, because the Murr's are not native to this area.
So, in game, you would say that the crafter because intelligent enough now, and found away (This would be in Chapter 3 and up) to prevent their magics, and now longer as effective they once where once before. So, now they're as effective as Human, go them! The only thing said character would have is their floating abilites still, and all that would do is like say add a tiny, tiny, uber bit of armor against earth effect (IE: Earthquake, Aftershock mainly)
Thus giving reason to be able to EARN the ability of creating a character just ONE using the 1,000 Murrsat Token, 500,000 Gold, 5 Million XP (*Ok I had to, 10 Million just sounds like 'OMFG!' worthy lol* and something else (let's say do these three quests by Beegeebeega or someone lol) and you can create the ONE. Your allowed to delete the said character and create a new Murrsatt character, but you aren't allowed to make anymore pass the one unless you earn it again.
This here would give the reason and ability to be able to explain new playable race (may another one, I still say Dwarf) - and have to really earn them. Because you can buy 1,000 Tokens and 500,000 off Ebay, but you can't buy 5 Million XP from it ! So that would be able to prevent anyone from going "OMG LOOK WHAT I EARNED NEWBS!" and stuff.
Edit: You guys gotta admit though, some 15k Memsmer Mursatt armor would be awesome, and their special floating abilities too would be fun!

Races in GW = Vanguards in M:tG?
A thought.
Also please no races. Professions and skills provide all the differentiation I need.

Same here.
I don't see the damn problem with adding races. They used all of the same spells that the humans do. IT would be for purely asthetic value, and maybe some extra PvP options in the future.

But, would you agree to my idea of having to EARN these races? Because, if we don't, you would be flooded with "said new race' and no humans or anything, adn then people would go "OMG I HATE THIS GAME!" and stuff.

Heh, well first of all humans, which we are, rule the world so naturally you shouldn't want to be anything else but yourself. Personally, i think the game will get waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too complex for anyone, but of course, the stupid nerds who sit in their homes writing up 100000page guides to games.

Do you people realize how much work it would take to add a new race in terms of art assets alone?
Frankly I'd MUCH rather have a new profession rather than wasting time on adding some race that adds nothing to gameplay.
