I have 2 male chars and 4 female chars, (I share an account with a friend) one of every type. Male Ranger, Female Elementalist, Male Warrior, Female Monk, Female Mesmer, and Female Necromancer. I don't have any particular reason for doing so, it's just how it turned out. My Ranger is cool, my Monk is cool, they're all cool, and being an old D&D player, it doesn't really matter what gender they are to me...
Just how much they kick ass. ^_^
Oh yeah, and I'm a dude. I have a goatee and everything. ^_^

Not really. I work as a phlebotomist, which is a fancy term for those lovely people in hospitals who stick needles in peoples' arms to draw blood. I've had patients FAINT on me because they're afraid of needles, or can't stand the sight of blood.
And, statistically, 99% of the time, they're MALE.
Conversely, the people who handle getting blood drawn the best are women, particularly the women in the post-partum labor & delivery ward. They just gave BIRTH, for chrissakes. They're not going to care about a tiny needle prick.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled topic ....

men can deal with trauma better. men can be stronger and faster. women can multi-task better. the have better endurance. they are more intelligent.

1. Free stuff
2. Easier to get groups
3. I can entertain myself by dancing when there is nothing to do
4. It makes me feel sexy
5. Because having all male charcters just because you are a guy is a boring excuse and homophobic

I like to look and act cute.
I don't see how not making characters of the opposit gender makes you "Homophobic".
Frankly, I can't stand to be in a car full of men, I'de rather have a few women around no matter their age. Men are boring and ugly

You misunderstood me, I said if that is your only reason for not making one. It was more of a speculation than fact, but nonetheless agreeable

Yeah, I have to agree. I have 2 Female & 1 male. If they had a guy that looked UBER cool, then I might pick one next time. But I'd rather look at a chick.

Sorro Sparrowhawk was created for my twelve year old granddaughter to play when she visited, until my daughter and I decided that the game was inappropriate for her age (too much BS in the towns). The character's appearance (small stature, pigtails, and running around barefooted) was designed to simulate a twelve year old. Didn't think she would get hit on. She did -- my bad. Wound up using her as an advance scout and to farm for items for my other characters and for my team's characters.
Wanted to try a necro to get a feel for the class, since my youngest daughter/teammate runs a necro. A name popped into my mind and I just HAD to build a character around it, appearance creation limitations notwithstanding. Wanted a toon to look like a wicked stepmother type from an old Disney animation, a vampire, and something that has died but still lives. I think I've got it, and haven't seen an uglier, evil looking necro anywhere in the game. NOBODY hits on Auntie Acid.

I usually refer to machines (such as cars) as females, so it seemed natural to have my character a female. She's my baby <3 <3 <3

Very simple: Male Monk looks retarted. He looks brainless, he's fat, and the armors don't look cool on the male Monk.

Considering how much time you invest in your characters...would you not rather stare at a female ass? Like, we all have our gender preferences as men and women, but me as a man..personally..if im going to have to stare at the backside of my character for hours..its going to be an attractive female..not a male. Also, the female characters are incredibly hot for a bunch of pixels and the only time you can see the female characters in good resolution is when you have your own. Ok shabby excuse..i like women alright. K thx bye

I am a bloke with a female char... The reason for it? When I first created my char the name "Lord Nibbler" was taken, I wasn't the most sober I have ever been so "Lady Nibbler" was born.

I think unamed player summed up the reason so many men run female avatars very well. It isn't more complicated than that.

I think it's sort of funny that people were using the "Female Backside > Male Backside" argument before capes were togglable.

You're presuming that everyone is/was guilded. I knew quite a few examples of players disbanding themselves from guilds just to avoid the cape cover-up.
My toons are female. Am I desperate? Hell no! I married a real-life swiss/german hottie 7 months ago, and yes, she's also a PC-gamer

Yes, but did you disband yourself from your guild because of cape-cover? Probably not. By the way, the guys who did need to leave their room more than once a month.
I stand by my original point.
