I know this has been rehashed, but I havent seen this point made at all really. I'm annoyed at the closed missions in both tyria and cantha, and its not because of titles, its because I cant help guildies.
I was planning on making a warrior in factions. I havent had the best luck with the class, and was hoping that a fresh new experiance might help with it. Now I'm undecided. Why? cause now I have to figure in what missions I can or can't do.
Its basically 3 missions on the canthan side, and about 7 missions on the tyrian side. So on a pure level of "most ability to help" tyrian characters win out. Which is depressing, since I was hoping to have a canthan warrior. Now its either making double characters for every profession, or sticking with tyrian, since its 'only' 3 missions that they miss out on.
I dont really care about the story line, I dont care about titles, just let me be able to help my friends and guildies.
Uhm, there is no problem helping your guildies. There are (from a bad memory) 13 missions in Cantha of which, either 11 or all 13 are avaliable to all cantha characters.
Are you talking about the inabilty to run places? or the inability to access the elite missions?
Elite missions are similar to UW/FoW in the way that you can't get to UW/FoW unless you're ascended! so you're not going to be able to help people get there just by running them either, rather, you'd have to help them get ascended first.
In the same way, elite missions require your guild to help in the faction farm, or, someone in your guild to know someone who's currently holding one of the cities to get a ride to the elite mission place.
You should probably play through cantha before coming to the conclusion you can't help guildies with it.
There are 7 missions I cannot access in Tyria if I make a canthan character. Gates of Kryta, Frost Gate, Borlis, Nolani, Sumeria, Ranik, Northern Wall. There are 3 missions I cannot access if I have a Tyrian character in Cantha.

All Canthan missions are available to Canthans (why would only 11 or 13 missions be available to canthans? Factions doesn't have any prophecies only content, the ony difference is the starting point for one(?) mission), all Tyrian missions are available to Tyrians.
However, the issue is when one character travels to a continent it was not born on. A Tyrian can not participate in any mission on the starter isle (two missions). In that case the character can not even enter the outpost due to locked gates. A canthan can not participate in any mission before Lions Arch (including the "Gates of Kryta" mission), I didn't count so I will assume the 7 quoted is correct. In this case you can enter the outpost but when you try and enter the mission the whole party gets an error until the Canthan leaves.
There is a whole host of problems this has caused for completist and just normal playing. Heloing you guild mates is one of the bigger ones.
Unfortunatly, I don't see this really changing. Considering this was done on purpose I rather suspect that Anet will stick to it no matter what. I don't think we can complain enough to change it. Who knows? Maybe they will (My guess is this was in response to complaints about "noobs" making it to end level content through running/rushing along with the general RP story aspect, maybe enough complaining will get some changes but I doubt it).
Ok, so now I'm confused. If you have both prophecies and factions, what's stopping you from using a prophecies character to help your guild with the prophecies missions and a faction character for the other missions?
As for if our faction characters can get to Ascalon, I dunno, I haven't taken anyone from factions back to Tyria, though I agree with not being able to do the earlier missions, what fun is the mission if a lvl 20 does them?
i believe the OP is in the situation where he wants to start a new character, a warrior. He wants to learn to play the warrior and also help guildies thru prophecies at the same time with this character. however, he wants his new character to look canthan, which wouldn't work since canthans can't do the first seven missions of prophecies.
Sorry it's taken a bit of time to get an answer back to you. We've been out of town, out of state, and out of our minds with E3.
Here's some skinny that I think you'll find of interest:
We are aware that players would like the opportunity to play through all the missions in both lands. Perhaps you want to help out a newer player, or a buddy who's starting a new character; it makes sense that you should be able to access that content. Maybe you're hoping to collect a long list of titles and earn what is rightfully yours, and at present, you cannot. You truly should not have to choose between Explorer of Tyria or Explorer of Cantha -- we agree! And no one should be unable to get the Kind of a Big Deal nod.
We want to make all of this possible. Now, it doesn't make sense to take a character of high level through starter missions and still expect a reward. (I mean, a Level 20 reaping a skill point for a newbie mission just isn't right.) But I see that some of you have already recognized that fact, and have come up with a good solution: "Let us play through those (earliest, previously-inaccessible) missions without expecting the mission rewards."
Within the next couple of weeks, you'll be able to fully explore both Cantha and Tyria with characters on your merged account. You will be able to play the early missions in Tyria as a Canthan, and in Cantha as a Tyrian. You will be able to strive for a full list of titles in each land. It will take a bit of time to implement, so please be patient. But soon, you'll have that content you want. Soon, those titles you desire will be within your grasp.
Thanks for your patience as we heard your concerns, analyzed the situation, and found the way to fulfill your requests in the most positive way possible. We'll code it up, test it, and roll it out in the next couple of weeks!
Stick with Tyrian...you can help you friends more often, since you are only unable to help 20% of the time as opposed to 28% for Canthan born characters.
Of course in both cases...if your friends cant beat those missions (or hench them)...they need more help than you can provide. (Im hinting that they are retarded...har de har har)
But really...Cantha characters have a much better begining....and without the storyline...GW PVE isnt really worth playing...

Isn't that the typical kind of fabulation you'd expect?
I think it is.
It's not right to have a lvl 20 reaping a skill point for a newbie mission?
But it's right to have ppl. run to Droks to do newb missions after that?
It's right to have people run to ascension to do newb mission after that?
It's right to let unascended people to the fire island?
I mean, a lot of unfair things seem to happen in-game, and no matter what you think, it's a reflection of real life in some sordid way, but deliberately blocking Canthan's from newb mission just because of the lousy 14K exp. and maybe 7 skill points? That's just "not doing your homework" or "being stupid" or maybe even both.
I am, however glad, that aNet (we're not worthy, thank you so very much) gave us hope that the problem would be fixed "in the future" (now where did I hear that before?)

Its more about being together really, with friends, than actually beating the missions. And my guild is mostly-to-all PvE.

Ye gods, first you bitch and moan that Anet didnt give you what they promised and now they will give it you and STILL you bitch and moan? Get a life.
i think complaining about not getting xp from newbie missions just because there's a way of doing it with other characters is a bit much. they're changing it, be happy.
and you might get what you ask for, they might make lvl20 tyrians unable to get the xp.
