It is and it isn't. When you look at it, you don't need EVERY skill, many skills are completely useless. If you just buy new skills when you want or need them instead of just buying them for the sake of it, 1k per skill isn't really too much.

I think those people complain now, who didn't play for a long time.
They don't know there was no cap on the prices, so it's went above 1k, I remember I bought skills for 3k! Why? I didn't really need them, but I bought it.
A lot of people complained about it and ANet made the skill cap for 1k.
I could complain about it, because I thrown out a lot of money on skills, but no, because it's my fault i bought those skills.
So stop complaining, it won't be changed, it's good now and it should be remain this.

I spent >80K on skills since factions was released and I don't farm so basically I'm poor now. My E/Mo with all the E/Mo skills was changed to Rt secondary to wipe those up (trying to get UAX).
Before the 1K a skill maximum, it used to be more. They already adjusted the cost curve. They could lower it to 500g, but then it wouldn't be as much of a money sink.

How about all the skills I unlock in PvP be usable by my PvE chars, what do you think about it? Works both ways, doesn't it? I've worked hard on unlocking my skills with faction.

Wouldn't make a difference to me that much. It would, however, create slight imbalances that would have to be adressed.

When Factions came out, the entire game's economy was revamped; not just expediture, but income as well. Before Factions, I could never afford to buy more than 20 ale at a time. Now, I've got 150 ale just sitting in my inventory-- I'll probably finish about half of it by the day's end.
I remember getting a monstorous eye drop before Factions was released, and choosing not to sell it in hopes that its price would rise when Factions did release. As it turned out, the price dropped. Sucks for me.
But as an avid PvP fan, I did come up with a new way to score me the $$ necessary to cope with the 1,000 minutes drunk I needed:
WTS STACK OF AMBER, 25K!
<Enraged Donkeys Horse> I'll buy!
<Intosatanic Secrecy> meet me at sortage
<Leper Camel of Darkness and Poop> ill tke it
<Transexual Monkeydung> omg i wan it man plz
<Egotistical Donald> I'll buy it for 24k and 712g
<Dearing Hardy> ill buy ti
*NOTE* Names above are not real IGN, and any usage of these names in-game is purely a coincidence.
I'm not supporting the 1k per skill, I'm just saying that there are other ways of generating income now that Factions is released.

/signed! I barely have any money ever and the only way to get money is to make the build to start getting the money. But I need the money to buy the skills to be able to farm to MAKE money!
It's a vicous circle.

That, imo, is the right attitude.
Invest in yourself to make $$ then invest more in yourself to make more $$.

The only problem with the 1k / skill is that we are now expected to buy more skills than in Prophesies (quest reward skills being replaced with skill points or large XP rewards) causing the price to inflate far faster than before. This should be off-set by gold rewards from such quests, but its not.
Add more gold to skill point quest rewards or decrease the skill cost gradient, 1k a pop is getting ridiculous :P

Hmm....
Strange. I've never had serious problems with money in the game. By the time I was out of the Shing Jea island, I had bought 4 skills, had my *complete* skillset(not counting the elite) for my healer ritualist(and after, by buying 6 skills, my complete skillset for 2 variants of assassin builds), bought the armor from the harbour(45 armor with ritualist), and had over 3k on each char. With the current skills I have I can keep going until I figure out some better build...
The first posters claimed that skills were too costly, yet they bought 15k armor. Interesting. Farming is not required to get gold - I find that helping guildies finish quests in 3-4 person parties is one of the best ways to get gold without resorting to farming. At the end of the day, after buying identification and salvage kits, I would have around 3-4k... I don't feel your money problem, sorry.
The first skills you buy costs a piddly amount of gold. If you take some time to plan out your build, you'd be fine. If not, well, it'll take a few k more, but still, who buys ALL skills at the start? As you progress into the game, you get gold, and unless you're buying fancy armor and dyes, skills are the only serious money sink.

Erm, skills are capped at 1k....
Also, I find that playing RP and PvP chars seperately(as in, not PvP-ing with your RP chars) takes quite a strain off your RP char. You don't have to go for that sup vigor/sup absorbtion/sup superrune/uber weapon stats/etc/etc/etc. So far I've bought everything for my pvp chars with factions. Perfect mods just by doing what you enjoy - brilliant.

Not ANets fault that people spend their gold on skills early on that they don't use.

A short outing anywhere nets you 1k.
Inflation has hit GW recently, heavily. 1k may seem quite a lot but inactual fact, have you noticed how quickly it comes these days?
I want the new Aston Martin DB9 convertable, but it costs £250,000. OMG I can't afford it, but I cba to earn that money, I think they should lower the price for me... make sense? no? good.

Gah, alot of "just farm instead" or "you get the 1k through normal play", I dislike farming, I'd say I hate it but the making of a new build to farm somewhere does bring some enjoyment, that enjoyment dies out after 2-3 mobs or a single map run though. I also play normally, I even skipped all the armours bar ascalon/first shing-jai and ran myself to kaineng or stingray strand to save money on the way for all bar one. I pick up all items regardless and salvage/merch them. Sorry for the long list of things I've done, but there's alot of insinuation that those who can't afford the skills they want are sub-par with money management or just inferior at the game, which I don't buy.
I've used every skill I've bought, and I'm running out of money to buy them as fast as I make up modifications or entirely new builds after I get bored of the old ones. Admitedly I will eventually have all the skills I could possibly find a use for, but with swappable secondaries and trying to keep my pve chars kitted for pvp, there's pleanty more to be bought for a long time to come, infact it's gonna take longer than I'd like. The whole appeal of the system was the diversity you could have on just one character, but now I'm finding myself wishing I could use skills I can't afford with the new factions skills added on top.
Oh and to other types of nay sayers, there's not that many useless skills, one example of one of the few useless ones is vampiric bite for prophecies characters (carbon copy of vampiric touch, a skill with a 2s recharge, not like you need to alternate those two to reduce downtime.).
Finally, I would spend less time on the forums and more time in game, but I'm not home right now so less of the "quit moaning and play some more" would be nice too. Hell im posting now 'cos I ended up thinking about what new bits I need for new builds next time I'm on.

Way to read out of context. Before they changed skill costs, there wasn't a cap on skill prices. It was a gradual increment of 10 or 20 per skill. If you bought enough skills, they would indeed cost more than 1k a pop.
Anet said they would be offsetting the lack of skill quests by giving you gold and lots of experience. That's clearly not the case. Average exp reward is 3k and average gold reward is roughly 175. If it takes 5 of those quests to level, you've got your skill point but only 875 gold. Also, primary quests give 1 skill point in addition to that 3k exp and 175 gold.
My Tyrian mesmer is currently sitting on 60 unused skill points and many missions that need to have expert/master rewards for Canthan missions for the additional skill points, but I only have ~25k at any given time. Multiply that by 5 to account for my other characters. Farming is the last thing I want to do to pay for new skills and new armor (my necro still only has 57 AR from outside of Sanctum Cay).

How is THAT a parallel?
If Aston Martin charges you 1 mil pounds solely for the reason that you have purchased 50 DB9s in the past, then perhaps you can come back against and use that as a valid example.

Casual players have not held much weight in the game, why should it start now?
There are people who will never acquire 15k armor because they are casual players and don't spend hours upon hours farming.
There are so many gold sinks out there, it kills a lot of the fun for casual players.
I know I know... farm. Everything gets nerfed, so it takes ages to make faction or money anymore.

Not really a parallel/analogy, I just want a db9 ;x
However, my main point is that 1k gold is really easy to get these days, just a few quests and missions later and you have 10k easy, thats w/o doing anything special.
