I guess I'm not much of a seller. I usually just sell things well below going price to get rid of them fast or sometimes just give things away to help others out. It's actually really fun to go places like Ascalon and give some new players nice weapons to help them out.

"How much?"
"Make me an offer."

My typical response: "No, I asked you first. How much?"

Either they give me a price, or they try to find another easy mark.

I tell people to make an offer whenever A: I dont know how much whatever I am selling is worth or B: I dont care as long as I get enough to make my standing still worth it. (Like 3k for a gold max item with nice mods)

Some people also have to remember that it's not a crime to offer under the standard price or ask above the standard price.

And, I'm sorry, but 95% of the people who get ripped off by not knowing the value of something (we're not including more organized scams), do it to themselves. There are a number of places on the internet that offer suggested prices, and unless you know absolutely no one in the game, there's gotta be someone you can ask. Hell, ask for a price check in a public channel. Just don't assume that you're getting a good deal, then find out later you way overpaid, and blame the guy who sold it to you. He's being entrepreneurial, you're just being stupid.

Tell me, would you go to a car lot and pay whatever the salesman there asked? No, you'd research it.

"another mark" eh ? you see this is a great example of why i wont play that game anymore. everyone thinks everyone else is a friggin idiot.

buyers will always bid half price to buy, sellers bid double to sell .. can we just dispense with the BS and quit wasting each others time ?

its hilarious ... i ask for a price, get a silly smart arse reply when im asked to "make an offer" .. gee, im sorry, was i supposed to overbid just to not get called a noob ? yeah, that'll happen

between that and the assinie farmer bots with the "everything starts at 100K u buy" bullsquat, its become unbearable.. and yet its unavoidable cause we cant get them into the friggin trade channel where they belong !!

I think I've only done the "make an offer" thing once, it was for a brohn's staff a long time ago. Usually they went for 55k or something like that, but I just wanted to get rid of it, and really didn't want to give it to the "1k for unwanted greens" guy. So, I haggled with a guy for a while and got to a price of somewhere around 28.5k, accepted, and moved on. I noticed that he turned right back around and was trying to sell it for 45k, I just laughed went to go do something else. 2 days later, I came back to the place I sold it to him at, and he was still at it. 3 more days later, I saw the same guy in Droks this time, still trying to sell it. After that I didn't deal with greens anymore, and traded my razorstone for a willcrusher. I moved on to only dealing with junk sales to the merchant, much faster.

Now, I don't buy greens or golds from anybody. I sometimes will buy an occasional mod or something if it's what I need for my collector weapon. I still get those guys that say "make an offer", so I start at 1-5k, which is the max I'll pay for a mod, and get flamed occasionally. I usually respond back by saying, "Well, how much is it then?" and if I get outrageous prices (like 20k for a +5 energy staff head), I just laugh and go on my way. Not really worth my time if they want up to a 100k for a mod.

Actually, the only thing more infuriating than "make me an offer" is "can I see it?"

Me: WTS 15^50 Gold Vampiric 3:1 FELLBLADE of Fortitude +30, 75k
Idiot: Can I see it?
Me: Why do you you need to see it? I just told you everything about it.
Idiot: I want to see it the mods.
Me: I told you the mods, are you interested in buying it or not?
Idiot: No I can't afford 75k
Me: ...

lol, i saw too many peoples doing that now a day. They want to do "window shopping" by looking at the item than telling you later that they don't have enough golds for it.

Them: "Selling a great monk staff come look!"
Them: "At least make me feel like im not wasting my time."
Them: "Selling rare gold monk staff come see!"
Them: "Whatever happened to window shoppers?"

Default Price Hikers

I refuse to buy anything over 30k most items in the game are so over priced. I've seen just about every High end item there is and it's all the same IMO. Right now i'm using the auctions here at GWG and i'll sell the same exact item as someone else for lower. Why cause i'm tired of all the price hikers.I'm one of "MANY" who are working to get the prices back to a limit so everyone can afford them. Some might say then i'll never get any good items, wrong i've gotten several items from UW and FoW that i've farmed or bought for less than or 30k.

I wish half the people in the auction would read this. It blows my mind how some people are asking 200K for a normal skin (ie not fellblade or crystalline) for a 15>50 sword with at most 25-50K of mods on it.

Usually when a person is selling and they don't make an offer I'll ask them one. If it's way too high I'll just ignore them. 100K + 25 ectos for a clean weapon ain't worth it to me when I can get a 15>50 katana for 5K plus mats. If it's close to reasonable I'll make a counter offer. My threoy is if it's outrageously high they're just out to make a quick buck and aren't worth bothering with. Now if you offer me a good sword (clean or poor mods) for about 5K-10K, I'll be interested.

usually asking

"how much do you value it at? if its fair, i'll pay that."

is enough to pull a number from someone with an intention to sell.

if the seller still refuses to give up a number, then just low ball since they either have no idea of the market price, or wasn't in a hurry to sell.

I think it should be a reportable, offense. They clearly stated make me an offer. Not make me an offer between xx gold and an insane amount of gold and if I do not like your offer, I'll flame you into oblivion.

Now I do think they can refuse the offer, but they didn't say make me an ofer, but I may refuse it with flames. Either way it's the flame part that they should be banned for.

Normal, sane, rational, well people like me anyway, would just counter the offer.

Me: Make an offer
You: 1k
Me: 3k
You: 2k
Me: Ok.

Notice there were no flames in that exchange. Unfortunatly, for some odd unexplained reason, they allow children and AOL on the Internet.

Bargaining is totally acceptable, half the time the person bargaining really just wants to dump whatever it is they are selling. They want the best price they can get quickly, so they ask for offers and accept the best one or bargain a bit.

Price setting isn't a science and there is no real authority (I'm an economist I know), so you aren't going to lose much by talking to someone and providing an offer. The worst that can happen is what happened in this thread... simply laugh at them and tell them that you aren't guildtrade.

i absolutely hate selling stuff- only time ill ever hit town and shop is when a) i want something specific right now or b) im busy working on the drunkard title (often while sippin some of grandpas old cough medicine behind the comp myself).

what i do though, is when i need to merch items, ill hit LA or droks dist 1 and read a bit and look for WTB. i store items i wont personally use but are too good to merch on another account ... which i leave running in the guild hall on the other comp. if i see someone looking for an item ive got, ill say "hey, i got one for "x" price" and if they want it, ill jump over to the hall and trade it to the char im using. way i think of it is that ill eventually sell it on MY time and not have to spam all day.

i do get a kick out of some people tho. i personally have trouble selling 15^50s for 3 to 10k depending on the req, but yet i constantly see "WTS 14^50 "x" for only 50k!" my newest pet peeve is the people who try to sell unIDed gold armors for 4 to 5k now. EVERY time i hit droks, i see one or two of these guys. i mean, isnt it pretty common knowledge that rune prices are crap now? this biggest "score" is sup vigor and thats only 25k or so.

Usually when I'm selling an item and asking for an offer, it's not an item that I want to bother hunting down a price for. I'll generally take the first half-decent offer I get. Every now and then, I do get someone who offers 50K when I'd gladly have accepted half that.

That said, it's annoying to post that you're taking offers and get a response back saying 'how much'. Tough noogies, I'll find someone else. I don't mind you lowballing me (as long as it's not too stupid an offer) as long as you're open to haggling.

And window shoppers are icky.

I don't mind people saying "make me an offer" if they aren't jerks if I give them a they aren't willing to sell it for. However, that's the nature of online video games. Not everyone is (or at least acts like) an adult. It falls on you with either deal with it or not deal with them.

If I was to sell something that way, I'd do as others would "Make me an offer, no response means no thanks." As noted, there are a lot of rude buyers out there too.
