If they nerfed that skill that 55 monks HAVE to have (it's late and I'm too lazy to look it up and I don't play a 55 monk) for the build to work, then maybe the OP would have a legitimate complaint. THAT would be punishing all for the deeds of the few.
As many have suggested, farm different areas. I never do more than 1 or 2 ettin runs at a time, and I rarely fail to get 2 (or more) gold pauldrons each time. The problem is, since just before Factions release, they INCREASED the number of drops for runes and this caused the prices to drop significantly, for example Sup. Absorbtion: Was 100K, now around 4k. (I laugh to myself when I see people selling un-ID'd gold armors for 3 or 4k in Droks - hehe)

I have just recently begun to explore the realm of 55hp. After beating Prophesies and doing titan quests and then PvE tombs I wanted to try something new. So, I have been practicing in some of the easier areas for a 55 in the hopes of eventually trying the dual UW idea.
I know that I am far behind many people with this, but that is ok. It is less about farming and more about fun for me. It is a shame that I feel like I have to farm in order to get many of the Factions skills unlocked for my characters. I am working on it though, a few every day.

I hardly ever post on this forum (partly coz I keep getting "The page cannot be displayed" and "Cannot find server or DNS Error"), but I have to make an exception in this case.
I totally agree with a few previous posts and quite frankly, I don't see the "wisdom" in nerfing or the whole anti-farming attitude. People with bots cheat, not people willing to do those 100 runs.
Many people farm a lot - but so what!? At least prices drop from the simply bizzare 150k+30ectos to, say, a relatively acceptible 40k.
Besides, one of the requirements in high-level areas is to have good armor/weaps, which cost gold and materials, which you can't get without farming - so farming is actually a necessity. And farming isn't just for filling pockets, it's so you can help weaker players of the guild, it's so you don't have to start from scratch when you create a new character, it's so you can eventually try out different armors/greenies, and it's FUN!
Arenanet should really rethink their outlook on farming - if a player can get the stuff s/he needs or wants, s/he will be able to focus more on missions and quests (and won't complain about "the grind").
I am not one of the best players out there myself, I can't solo the UW or whatever - and I don't much care for PvP/GvG. However, I do enjoy farming - it's just a thrill to see those biggies go down. If they nerf everything but the UW, I'll be broke and angry. Also, getting 1 goldie in 100 kills is just a waste of time (and we DO have lives outside the game).
I wonder what weak players do - farm Old Ascalon for a month and then quit the game? It's bad enough that they get assulted from all sides for being clueless noobs and whatnot.
Anyhow, Arena best stop focusing or overfarming as there is another problem becoming more and more apparent: post-Factions, towns in Tyria are becoming increasingly abandoned. Getting a team/pug is often impossible, so you are on your own, with henchies, no matter how you look at it.
I apologize for any spelling mistakes, I'm not a native speaker of Eng..

Problem is that build was very easy to use originally, and to an extent probably still is - which paves the way for bots to take over. You can't really blame Anet for that. Besides which 100+ runs in the same place, doing the same thing over and over, someone might argue that's not much different from being a bot hehe

in response to the above, i decided tonight that since they unlocked earlier missions in tyria for canthan born players i would run my assassin back to ascalon and do all the missions in tyria (finished in cantha). i got to ascalon and quickly realized how abandoned everything was.
I made stops on the way back to ascalon at ice caves, courthouse, etc. and noticed there is a dramatic drop off in players. ascalon only had 5 districts. the least i've seen in a long time.

I don't find issues with anti-farming code. It keeps things fresh. When anti-farm code pops us in one place there's plenty of opportunities to continue treasure hunt in many other places.

Not really, because real people are doing the farming. They spend their own time and their own effort to get the money. If they spend hours and hours farming and get like 100k, they've earned it.
Bot's don't.
Then again, if Anet wants to nerf everything, at least make stuff cheaper to compensate. Like the 15k armor for example. With all these nerfs in place the economy is screwed.
Remember when Anet reduced the price of celestial sigils because nobody could afford it? Now with all the nerfings, how is anyone going to afford a sigil now?
Remember when Anet reduced the price of black dye so that the average player can afford it? How can they afford it now since everything's been nerfed?
Remember when Anet increased the drops of Sup. Absorption and Vigor so that they become cheaper and that average players can afford them? How can they afford it now since everything's been nerfed?
This nerfing is undoing all of the fixes Anet has done previously to allow the average player to buy stuff. Considering that playing normally rarely gives anyone proper drops, how can they afford anything at all??? It's all back to square one again for Anet.... Those dumb fools....

Just to clarify, farming actualy increases cost of items as more people have more money and thus can afford more. Simple as that. Big price drops actualy happened when farming was made harder.
From what I have heard, in the beginning of the game money was easy to get if you actualy tried to, I remember my friend complaining how he couldnt find a single 15>50 Storm for less then 300/400k (today I will be lucky to sell mine for 75k). Obviously this created problems for people who just played the game casualy and didnt take the effort to farm. Such items were beyond reach for them. Thus a lot of changes were made and now the "average" farm per hour yeilds much less than what it used to.
Personaly I dont care much about farming. I have 55'd, traped, pet-smited, solo w/n'd and more, mostly for the challange rather than the actual loot. I have all the weps I care for and with the addition of Faction, I no longer have any need for FoW armor.
Edit: And farming is not realy nerfed tbh. Though I am not an acive farmer, many of my guildies still find decent places and builds to use with pretty good results.

sigils were 75k+ and the pvp jerks were hoarding them to keep the price between 75k-100k to get rich.
more sigils dropping and the same jerks were putting sigils up for sale in lots of 30 or more before the price dropped more.
black dye?
i was selling to the trader for 26k a pop and others were selling it for 40k+ each.
sup asorb is a laugh as it has dropped from 100k to 4k.
the only people bitching are the farmers who lost their instant easy path to riches.
now work for that farming money because the govt has broken your monopoly

Your complaint is about them nerfing your farming spots, and thus "screwing" your reason to continue playing the game. Given that information, is it completely illogical to assume that "If he has no reason to play the game because his farming spots are getting nerfed, he is perhaps only playing the game to farm."?

So in conclusion, if you start by saying that you don't know how ANet expects people to continue playing the game if they nerf farming, and then follow that up by listing several things you do BESIDES farming, you might want to revise your earlier statements.
I'm not against farming, not in the slightest. Go farm all you want. Hell, it makes it cheaper and easier for me to get somethings (though, I still hate the spamming in districts).
My stance is simply this, the game is not CENTERED around farming. Look at the back of any of the Guild Wars boxes. Show me once where it mentions anything about aquiring large sums of wealth/items? Because to my knowledge it talks about combat, PvP games, and creating your adventurer (RPG element).
Thus its easy to assume that if they don't advertise farming as being part of the game, chances are, it's not the focus. So, if ANet makes steps to eliminate some farming places, it's not "ruining" the game, because you should not focus, nor depend upon it.

First of all, I understand the concept or reason why you at arena a.k.a NCSoft keep nerfing everything under the sun. What I am really pissed off about is this. I am an avid 55'er (InvinciMonk), I used to 55 the desert and various other places untill recently they were nerf'd not only for the NEW BREED of mobs but for those F*** up botters that screw everyting up for everyone. Then we were forced to move to those sorry A** trolls outside of droks. Now, don't get me wrong drops were ok after seeding ur character and everything was great, But as of the New build from yesterday it seems, once again you have screwed up the economy for us. I have done over 100 runs today. and recived the following. I net'd 10 k gp, got 2 frikkin chests, no gold drops what-so-ever. I also recieved TWO purples. Now .. I ask you, how do u expect people to keep playing this game if you @ NC or Arena Keep screwin crap up for us??? I have 4 copies of the game because I love this game but you make it VERY hard to stay in tune with it. If your attacking the bot issue then watch the international accounts because most of them are international. Nerf thier crap or ban them but why make everyone suffer. I think it's damn rediculas to use the " MASS PUNISHMENT" theory.. for one.. it doesn't work it only PISSES PEOPLE OFF. I've had enough of the nerfing go screw up something else. .....

There are many reason for nerfing "making changes".
1) To adjust skills that need to be change(may or may not have bugs). Ie Offering of Blood, was Sacrifice 10% maximum Health. Now Sacrifice 20% maximum Health. This to stop players from abusing skills/spells.
2) To cutdown botters. Plus banning botters, but a person that makes bots can have/get many different accounts and bot from one of them(just to let you know).
3) Stop players from farming an area for a long time, mean the rich get richer.
4) To stop players from exploiting a bug in the area, for that players own goal.
Now if you can't understand that's your problem, then and you have not been playing Prophecies/Factions for that long. Arenanet/NCsoft have been nerfing "making changes" to the game for over a year now.
And to the OP....stop tring to cause a flame war. Plus stop acting like a noob.

*bows* Thank you, though I believe I have yet to earn the "flaming" title, as I said, I haven't flamed. Everything I've said was constructive and on point of the topic.
"You're an asshole." That's a flame.
"You suck." That's a flame.
"Die." Well, that's more of a threat, but it's a flame too, just a really big one.
Do you see where I'm going? Can you understand now the difference between constructive (and perhaps condescending) criticism, and a flame?

Apparently, because, as I've said, I've yet to flame. And if I'm as juvinille as you've said, I clearly must have enough time to do things like farm... or gain rank 7 on my account (or several accounts!) for that matter... Right?

Opinion does little to sway fact. And your statement is hardly scientific. Was a proper sampling done of persons before they responded? Or did you just happen to find a large clump of like-minded persons?
Also, remember, as I said I had no problem with farming. I just detest people thinking it is the main/sole point of the game.

You don't care who I am? And yet you've done several (I count about 5 seperate occasions) of labeling me and trying to decypher who I am from my posts. I guess I have to drop the "inconsistencies" comment about you, because well, I don't like beating dead horses.

To everyone else (and getting back on topic), as I've said post after post. I have no problem with farming. I just don't like two things:
-Believing it is the sole/only point of the game.
-Spamming in districts.
Beyond that, I have no opinion on the matter.
--
Young Hero:
Just one point, although I see where you are going with this, I believe that's just a matter of cinematics. If you look at the movie for Prophecies it has 3 characters taking on all the monsters on the bridge, the one for Factions has the assassin and two champions taking on Shiro. In both of those movies, they were actually attacking, not the typical picture you see of people farming (i.e. sit in place, aggro large group, use buffs to stay alive and slowly kill all).
In the game they only reference the main person of the party (thus making it seem as if only the party leader is involved in the storyline.) A point of fact on this, is after you beat Shiro's bosses in the Battle for the Sewers the party leader says "What do should I do" or something to that affect, rather than "what should we do." There are several other references to only the party leader being involved in the storyline.
ANet's stance has always been on "group" work, which soloing simply isn't. And besides, what looks more heroic? 8 Characters attacking a bone dragon, or one?
I will admit though, it is a valid visual reference to your point. But as they say a picture represents 1000 words, to be safe, I rely on whats written.
