It was the same when I started. I got the game, played it, loved it, and found the Forums. That was when I found out I was supposed to hate it. All these experienced players hate it, so I must too. If the search function works when you are on, go to the complainers old posts, and see what they had to say about Prophesies. Make up your own mind.
Personally, I love Factions. I like it better. The PvE is harder, and you need to put thought into where you are going, and not simply use the same hench every time you go out.
I love the titles. Gives you something to shoot for, or show off. Too bad lag kills all the survivors (one thing I'm angry about, give me back my 0 deaths!)
Personally, I wouldn't be able to think about Visa Express, or American Lap if Ms. Alba were busy...
But some people REALLY like to complain. I'm glad I bought Factions, and other than to go back and get some skills, I never play in Tyria.

No offense but is this the first time you have been on a game oriented forum? Check some other non-Guild Wars ones and you will understand.
By the way, most of Guild Wars' fan forums are positive. Including this one.

what do you like better? PvP or PvE?
prophcies = PvE content and friendly
factions = best PvP game ever done
prophecies = farming, exploring, runing, just woundering around doin nothing special
factions = alot of PvP, more intense PvE, but shorter

The problems with Guild Wars are not chapter specific. Things I complain about are systems that are Guild Wars-wide, from Prophecies to Factions to Chapter7 (god help us. we might have improved trading and storage by then. maybe, but probably not.)
Ignoring the problems that aren't chapter specific, I would recommend Factions. I enjoy it much more than Prophecies.

my take
factions is level 2 as prophicies is like level 1.the missions are harder, the enemys harder.in prophiceis i can be level 4 or less in droks that isnt possible in factions.oh and the areas seem more complex.(i only pve and REALLY enjoy factions alot.) if you play the game like its meant to(and dont try and bull rush yer way throgh it)it is plenty long, espesially with 6 char slots to beat the game with, and lets not forget about the titles to earn.....skills to learn/cap.new armor/weapons.and on and on.the people who complain are the same people who run through it in 2 weeks or less, and are the same ones who if they could beat the game by pushing the "1"key on there key board would do it, then claim that its to short.oh and probably buy their gold on ebay(tho they wont admit it).so actually getting a neat drop is foreign to them as they just buy what ever they want.well i have gone on long enough so do whatever ya want but dont cry about being left behind/out.as for me ill be in factions hope to see ya there.

ANet tries to fix that by forcing these people to NOT skip content but then the people start complaining that they can't skip the content that apparently doesn't exist.

You get less content, but way more challenging content as a PvE player. You're leveled up to 20 in a matter of hours as appossed to days and really, doesn't the fun start once you hit the level 20 content? You can start capping, doing missions that are fun right after the tutorial area (pre). You can't run trough the game, but why would you want to if you basicly start out in the area where you would normally be run (and at a appropriate level too).

Because forums only really give you the bad views of a game. People who like the game don't want to go on a forum and say they love it - they want to play it. People that don't like it, or have issues with it, make themselves heard.

The fact of the matter is, we want the game to be at its best, and why the hell not? we all like guildwars.. cause we play it .. everyday no?
Its not a bad game, its just got some issues that need to be sorted out for different reasons. It wouldn't effect you if you didn't know what was minorly wrong with something. example: cutscene bugging etc...
lol at above me, L2 is horrible sorry guy, that shit is like watching paint dry...seriously LOL... i feel bad for the poor souls that play that game.

I agree with the general consensus, although there are a few thigs in factions that 'grind' me the wrong way i am still glad I bought it. Im only about half way throug, been taking my time, + the fact I still have a bit I want to do in Tyria, but generally I can say it is good, the map is alot smaller, just running around a little last night made realise how huge the origianl GW is. I would suggesst completing the prophecies campaign, try out the all the different things there are to do, and then come over to factions for max enjoyment.

I started posting on DnD online forums in 1988. Half of the people in here weren't alive when I first got online...
I've been running lists anf forums and such nearly as long, and I wrote the first game based MUD that had stats and skills and non-combat spells, so I've been around this stuff for a while...
A lot of what people will post anywhere is overdone, but you can find patterns in it that are relevant - and I just haven't seen the 'positive patterns' for Factions all that much. I am new to GW though, and have been hoping I just missed it. I started this thread to see if a counter opinion to all of the negative posts was out there within this community or not.

Best post on these forums in weeks. I love Factions, but I'm falling into the category of people "complaining the Deep is too easy". It's a GREAT dungeon to do, and very hard until you learn the tricks. I am still in awe every time I go there. Killing Kanaxai with Vamp weapons or spawning his max number of mobs, then fighting him are just cheesy tricks that make easy what is supposed to be a very hard fight. When I hear of people that want to buy Kanaxai's Axe for 65k something is wrong.
Back to the topic... yes... buy Factions. It's a great stand-alone expansion to a great game, and yes I called it an expansion even though it's 50$. That extra 10$ above typical expansion costs I think are well worth not having to pay monthly fees... ever.

It's guildwars, and it's new.
If you haven't finished Prophecies yet, do so first. Factions isn't at all bad, it's just not as outstanding as Prophecies, at least not the PvE. Once you've finished of Prophecies, then it's time to buy Factions.

All this is PvE
I've posted a few quite negative posts about factions. The good side:
1.- More challenging. The game is slightly harder than Prophecies. Especially when they begin to spike your squishes while 2 W/Hammers are pounding them (love it). You begin to rethink again your skillset (esp my monk trying to keep at live Tank-Assasins lol).
2.- Fast leveling . 50/50. Prophecies is a slowpaced leveling till lvl 20. In a few hours/days you can have a full lvl20 char, with top equipment (armor, runes,....)
3.- More lvl20 areas. All of the game is lvl20 but the island. In proph. you had 3 areas (desert, shouth shiverpeaks,Fire island).
4.- New hench conbinations. The hench are better (this can be good and bad )
5.-New skills/items/armors. My mesmer is really happy about the new skills and his posibilities, and really , really, love her new Canthan 15K "armor"
6.- 2 new Elite missions . Always good instead of the usual FoW/UW/SF
7.- Different missions. In Prophecies almost all misions are the same. Go there slack some mobs and go or resist in one point. The first misison in mainland (Vizunah) is a blast, love all the chaos, ppl falling , mobs comming from everywhere ..... Anet seeks fresh forms of doing missions and there is variation in the missions you'll find out there.
8.- 2 new Classes. Each one is it's own kind and very different from the rest you've seen.
Anet has issued some of the complaints of Prophecies. Not going to be negative here. I'd buy definitely Factions if you liked Proph. Maybe you love it or hate it, but you'll not get a real view until you play it.

My 2p (being English I get to spend pennies rather than cents):
I've had Factions since the pre-order and still haven't completed the PvE storyline, for a combination of two reasons:
1) The new titles have given me so much to do back in Tyria that I just haven't made the time.
2) Within about 20 mins of the 'head start' event I was fed up with groups wanting to rush through the new content. That is literally 20 minutes, not figurative; the first PUG I was scattered as soon as they got outside and very quickly I got a message that a quest was completed (Drunken Master) when I hadn't even made contact with the relevant NPC.
Ever since then I have been much pickier about people I team up with and gone through at my own speed. I still haven't seen the Luxon capital, but have yet to be bored either. I guess my conclusion is that from what you've written so far, you'll probably enjoy it. Just be prepared to play it your way.
