Turtle Snowball Cannons and Gingerbread Juggernauts?
OMG YES! that would be awsome!!!
Well the only reason they might NOT do the Monestary is because of it being kinda like presear and I know some of you might object to that reasoning because it was 2yrs prior to the current Ascalon... I have this to say. Christmas is every year, even 2yrs ago it was every year
if you want a public relations disaster then i agree with you.
if you want happy people playng they will all get the same item trading set so people dont feel pressured to buy the latest chapter to get the best goodies
marketing by alienating the people who dont have it will not work.
I just don't see the difference. Players without Factions did not get Tengu masks, yet Guild Wars lives on. And not only did you have to buy Factions, you had to preorder Factions.
The tengu masks were part of the pre-order advantage.. though.. I was busy tying up things in Tyria before heading over to Cantha, so missed out even with pre order.

the difference is this.
tengu mask is a special one time launch event.
halloween/winterday are recurring (officially noted) events.
if you cut off an event for a major holiday from any part of the population you will have very bitter long lasting resentment at being forced to buy the new chapter to enjoy what you got last year.
there will be the goodie traders at all places for good will instead of resentment.

Meh, splitting hairs if you ask me. I don't remember the Master of Celebration's text, but maybe the Day of the Tengu IS an annual event in Cantha.
Granted, they probably will have goodies in every area, I'm just saying they don't have to, and they've done it before.
I can't consider the Day of the Tengu a preorder bonus. If it were, I could type "/preorder" and spawn a mask. I had to preorder the game, play on a specific day, finish several quests and be in the appointed area at the appointed time.
To change the scenario, what if, instead of the Hallowed Wintersday, there was some new holiday only in the new area?
By the way, I still have 75 Naga Fangs for sale if anyone wants to relive the magic!
Personally I don`t care where it happens as long as they do something about storage. I have one character crammed full of things they given me and I can`t use them because they`re on another character. I don`t see the point of handing out more stuff if all I do with it is stick it on another character.

Public relations? Fact.. those cheapos didn't pay for it.
Try using a hex spell from factions you captured using Inspired Hex next time you are in PvP, thanks.

are you saying that people in chapter 1/2 should not have candy canes/spiked eggnog/etc traders because only the latest chapter gets the goodie traders?
also what does what you just said have anything to do with this topic?

give me some of whatever you are on
You do drugs? Don't try to inject your lifestyle into your opinion of me, because I sure as hell don't. Keep living your life in delusions.
So.. who you suppose is going to pay for the time and effort it takes to introduce new NPCs specially for those old customers? A fair amount of work if you ask me, programming one NPC in one chapter vs 3 NPC in 3 chapters. Not to include the re-landscaping of possible NINE cities instead of just three, definitely a fair undertaking. Besides if they site it on battle isles what collector items are there to speak of? Human skulls? Suit of 60 armor fragments?
The inspired hex analogy was the perfect reflection on the mindset of the suits in Anet, and I for one would actually be quite happy to see some consistency in their analness when it comes to Wintersday Kthx.

nope i dont but you seemed so far out i thought i would toss that in
what new NPC as halloween/winterday are already done.
adding snow without having to completely shape new landscape is a small chore taken up by the 3rd team mentioned by Jeff Strain in an interview (special events were explicetly mentioned)
change the NPC name and plop him down i8n each town with the goodie to trade for

I think they could definitely get away with a similar but different set of holiday events over in Cantha. It would reflect different cultures' holidays much like happens here (Chinese New Year anyone).. As far as people not being able to access everything, well, you already can't access everything (you don't get to see the nice jade sea scenery, big-assed tree houses, Emperor's private yacht, the Empror). It's just content the same as the rest of the content. Tyria already has holiday content so I doubt they'll take that away. Having new and different content in Cantha would be a nice move. Think of it like skills, pets, armour, etc. You didn't lose any Tyrian Content, you just don't get the Canthan content. This way nobody is left out. If you only have Prophecies, well you get the holidays as they are over there. If you only have Factions, well you get the holidays as they are in Cantha. If you have both, well then you can go see how each culture celebrates :-)
To counter the Day of the Tengu, I think a Tyria-only holiday would be nice (nothing big, about the same size).
ArenaNet only said they wouldn't make it so that you would have a real competitive advantage by having one of the other so that you were not forced to buy the other. They never said that they would have the same content (holidays being content). After all, as far as we know you can't get Icy Dragon Swords in Cantha...
Should be in Lion's Arch seeing as they didn't delete the Wintersday files after it but rather just patched over them. At least, that's what I've heard from a friend of mine who was angry about the hard drive space it wastes when he discovered that.
He'd have extra reason to be angry if they are never going to use those files again yet they are to remain on his hard drive forever.
Drive space is so cheap.. whats there to be angry about?
Well, it looks like the new Dragon Festival event brings more relevance to this thread. I still think they can get away with having campaign-only events, and I look forward to this one :-)
For those of you that either said they wouldn't do it or that there would be a public relations outcry, I guess this will be a real test of those theories.
They might still have a summersday event for Tyria sometime, though. There's no telling.
I am sure they will have another Wintersday event, and also the Hallowe'en event was a blast too, I am guessing they would do it in the main cities. In Kaineng, Shing Jea Monestary, House Zu Heltzer and Cavalon I am guessing.
Maybe they will have more potent drinks for those trying to attain their DRINKING TITLE

Well, despite the fighting in this thread, the thought of newest chapter place only is becoming for a reality, as the newest event will be an Factions Area only >_>
