If that is it, I'd be dissapointed. I had such high hopes for a 'true surprise'. Now I can't go to sleep since I've stayed up for this.
I'll just wait a bit longer...

So what was up with Rujiyo calling everyone to the monastery for a big final battle? Was it just another round of returning orbs? If so, that's pretty lame.

Yeah, in the other thread, someone said Gaile confirmed the mini-game/invasion was the finale.
With the handfuls of glitches and bugs we have seen during the period of the Dragon Festival, I wouldn't be surprised if it was supposed to work like this:
The Emperor was to come every two hours, and hand out mask. Nothing out of the ordinary. At the conclusion of the event, the very last trip the emperor was to make, the invasion with The Fury and minions was supposed to be the finale, in which all the presents dropped, and the fireworks went off at the end.
But some employee up in Anet's office coded it wrong, and instead, the invasion would accidentaly happen every time, just like the bug that deleted charmed animals, bug that changed face appearance for rangers, unable to sell tickets, multiple Kisus', wandering grasps' and The Fury (post-event), that all happened since the Fesitval update.
Dont get me wrong, I appreciate the update, and the thought of the update very much, but just as the Tengu event, it was handled poorly. If Anet tested it better (if they did test it at all), then this would have been a much more fun event than it was, because it would have ran smoother. Most of these bugs and glitches though that have occured, are very common malfunctions, that was easy to stumble on upon, and very repeatable, which makes me doubt whether it was tested properly enough.

my biggest thing is this line, "The conclusion of the Dragon Festival will be marked with surprises true Canthans won't want to miss." This made it sound like something special would happen for canthan born characters. I understand if the invasion was only supposed to happen once, so it seems as though nothing special hapened at the end, I was just expecting something special for my Canthan characters.

Yeah That was my notion. No offense to A.Net they did a great job over all. But....that's it?
The slaughter everyone at the end thing is getting kinda old.

I forgot that the previous events didnt have big endings... but yeah, killing everyone was fun with the mad king, ok with grenth, and meh now. But I had fun, and there was more information (though people kept asking the questions anyways) so its an overall improvment GJ Anet

It was pretty good. But then, I've always thought NC + Co did good events
COH Halloween was always fun, imho.

Arena Net works Guild Wars, no NCSoft, though they license it, or whatever term goes there.

I liked it too. It was a lot of fun... however I do understand why some people might complain. I too was expecting something bigger only because their statement lead me to believe so. But if they wouldn't have said that i'd be too cool.. still am except i'm way tired staying up to see the "big finale that I don't want to miss"

Overall I enjoyed the event. Wintersday was by far superior IMO (I missed Halloween due to RL). I did like the Dragon's Nest and chance games tied to new titles ideas, dodgeball was ok (snowball fights were much better -- I don't know why they didn't add any skill that would be like catching the ball to make the thrower die... could've been a simple variation of a stance working like Reversal of Fortune/Vengeful Weapon, but with a % chance to fail), and the Emperor's appearances/mask giving were ok (I really enjoyed the mini-game town-battle) although unacceptably buggy (as a ranger primarily -- losing our pets/changing faces FTW?).
I tried to stay up til 3am (EDT) last night - was expecting a big finale that I didn't want to miss - but I passed out around 2... "luckily" I guess there is no big finale.
