Neither are. Likely you're thinking of Mindblade Spectres, which look and act similar.

There is little to no evidence to support that the Chaos Rifts lead to and from the Underworld.

Go to the Tomb of Primeval Kings. Look for the enourmous Chaos Rift at the entrance to the Tombs. Enter the Rift to find out that it leads you into the Underworld.
There's your evidence.

Well it isn't really the Underworld. It's just the name of the first (PvP) map, but occupied by these creatures (new Underworld anyone?). Then it goes onto something (can't remember map name), then the Courtyard then the Hall of Heroes.
I thought one point of the Tombs change was so that players could have a chance to look at the (Heroes Ascent) PvP maps . But its really part of a large storyline??

From what I understand, the Underworld is part of the Rifts, in the center of which is the Hall of Heroes. And yes, there was definitely something deliberate about the new enemies that went into the new dungeon, ESPECIALLY the "Darkness" bosses at the end. Lord Victo was the champion of Orr when the Lich destroyed it, and now some the Darknesses have their hands on his stuff...
Yeah, something's up.

Tbh considering the content of the first chapter, Charr invasion, Mantle, Mursaat, Titans then the later conversion of the Tombs PvP maps to PvE, and how the new converted map could be the primary link between chapters I sort of wonder if A.Net aren't just making it up as they go along
EDIT:
But it does take some time to plan, develop and test these things, so maybe not :P

I seriously believe that the grasps etc. will be part of a chapter spanning fight for dear life, Good Vs. Evil, and they called it the underworld because they have little understanding of this new area of evil that has opened up a rift into our world, I also think that this may be the BASIS of the story many chapters ahead, into another dimension= a WHOLE new world, Alternate Tyria anyone?

Good luck with that. That's several chapters worth of content to begin with. Yeah, ArenaNet is probably making this up (at least to some extent) as they go along. We'll just have to see what random thing they put in next.

Ingame Quote: "Legends remain of noble spirits who stand watch over the tombs. If there is a passage between the mortal world and the Underworld, surely such spirits would know how to find it."
In the year 851 AE, Lord Odran discovered how to open portals into the Mists, and subsequently, to the Rift. He hid the portals in the most treacherous of places, including:
- The Tomb of the Primeval Kings, deep inside the inhabitable Crystal Desert. This portal has been infested by the army of The Darknesses.
- Heroes' Ascent, in a region later became known as The Battle Isles, where the Zaishen Order train themselves for battle. This is the only portal accessable to players to reach the Hall of Heroes.
The army of The Darknessess (which employ Grasps of Insanity, Terrorweb Dryders, Banished Dreamrider, etc) corrupted the original portal in the Tomb and turned it into a Choas Rift. Now this portal between the Rift ( the first 2 levels of Tombs) and the human world works both ways. Hall of Heroes is only a part of the Rift and it is the last 2 levels of Tombs Mission. In the Hall of Heroes, heroes of old (including Lord Victo) fight eachother, gladiatorstyle. But when the army of the Darknessess invaded the Hall of Heroes (your mission was to stop them invading it), they presumably stole these weapons from either the ghosts or the tombs of the heroes.
Conclusion: the Choas Rifts are bothway portals to and from the Rift. But it is still uncertain if the Darknessess originate from the Rift, from our world or somewhere else. Why would they create a Choas Rift in Tombs through which their enemies (us) can enter? Maybe they were evil spirits trapped in our realm and wanted to take revenge on the gods by capturing the Hall of Heroes.
But to get back to the dragon festival: Tombs Choas Rift was a corruption of a original portal to the Hall of Heroes, does that mean that all the Choas Rifts were originally portals to the realm of the gods (Mists).
Anyway, the Mists are large, they contain the Rifts, which in their turn contain the Hall of Heroes and the Great Forge for instance. The army of the Darknessess could have come from anywhere of the Mists, even outside the Rift area. So no point in grabbing extra parallel dimensions in the equation (yet), which is the least plausible.
Edit: I guess someone is gonna delete this ranting, because it is getting more and more offtopic... :P

That is the Tomb of Drascir, but it is still uncertain wether it is the same as Tomb of Primeval Kings, since they are both mixed up on various occasions.

True, they are far to the north of the Great Wall, but somehow lore mixed this up with Tombs of Kings. Although I dont agree with it as well, nobody has found any proof about it.
Anyway, if they are the same or not, Tomb of Drascir has a portal to the Rift too.
