You forgot your own kind of post, pointless, off topic - contributing nothing to the thread. Or responding to such a post.
It is pretty funny though that the scribe reported the new weapons before they were implemented ... and now he is still reporting on them weeks later.
June 15, 2006 --> New Treasures on the Horizon?
http://www.guildwars.com/community/t...ibe-060615.php
and then it takes him almost a whole month to start reporting on the same weapons
July 13, 2006 --> Rotscale's Army Increasing in Majesty's Rest
July 20, 2006 --> The Totem Axe: Treasures of the Jungle

But he might report a weapon we never found along the way

Well remember the scribe exists only in the roleplaying sense.
He does not "map travel", he does not read "forums". He only exists in the game. The only thing the scribe has access to that we dont is the vast logs of chats/actions of every player in the game and what the devs say.
In that note, it seems to me that the scribe walks around and cantha to tyria and following interesting tid bits of word of mouth info...either from the devs, players, etc.
If you cant appreciate some RP lore, just...stop....reading...it.
If you want up to the minute news about the game, read a fansite like guru :P

I wonder if he ever come across the Temple of Ages and actually go down there as a 55 Monk/Necro after listening to people on how to make one (wouldn't be hard as its assumed the scribe is a monk). Then he report how its all done on the scribe. Awesome

A little late? Sure, but still a good look at the trip, from the perspective of a character in the game. I like the scribe's articles, seeing someone else describing the trip thta I've made so many times myself. The scribe isn't always going to write about the most recent change, or the latest farming build. (S)he writes about the journey through the game, and it's a good read.

I still say that s/he's a good writer. It is good reading material, and I am sure that a fast majority of Guild Wars players never knew this. This is a guide for newbies, not for hardcore 1337 players like you all.

Thank you, that's exactly right! The Scribe is outreach to all players, not the "high-end users" that most forum members might be called. People join the game every day, and for them, this is tasty information. Folks who have never played Guild Wars who happen to visit the site might find stories of interest enough to join our world. Many players, even now, have not gotten a Totem Axe, or haven't made the trek to that corner of Tyria.
There are a lot of reasons to write stories like this. There are many reasons to not try to focus on things that are "cutting edge." I hope that forum members will consider these things, and the value to the community as a whole, when they give a thought to what is offered in the news scroll.

You cant say that when the totem axes came out that the average users didnt see 100s of people saying "WTS ToTem Axe Best Axe in The Game"
Everyone should have heard of it by now

Gaile has a point. I guess people may have heard of the totems but it also told you where to find the totems which is very helpful for the non-hardcore players.

If a newbie asked the seller what the totem axe is, hed probably just get flamed.
Yes people have "heard of it", but the scribe describes how he heard of it, and tells the story of how to get one, specifically aimed at the average user who wasnt following the very fast moving thread here on guru when people were scrambling to discover those new greens. Wheres that thread now? Its old news so it aint on the front anymore.

I like reading the scribe when it tells a story of sorts and doesn't feel like a plug for competition or PvP advertisement. Gives the game world more depth and makes it seem... I dunno, more alive.

If that's the case, then perhaps the "scribe" should temper his remarks if he/she/it is writing about items that are old news. Highly Valuable? It's as highly valuable as Victo's Maul. It wasn't worth anything 24 hours after it was "discovered".
Item worth has less to do with stats than skin. Pretty baubles are "valuable", Green items, especially boring green items like the Totem Axe that will drop six times in a run, are not.

I do quests and don't farm. Where I go it never drops. The occasional player, who actually follows the storyline, migh never get to see it.

That's your opinion, and I respect it. But "value" is most often in the eyes of the beholder. I "value" my Pumpkinhead, but it has a 0 for resale value with a merchant, and I cannot sell or even give it to another player. I value a bow given me by a guild member not because it's the most uber in the game but because it was given by a friend and I was touched by his generosity. I value things that have high intrinsic value and things that are pretty and things that have no value at all. So I would say that using the words "highly valuable" is both accurate and fair. If you would have The Scribe use those words based only on marketability, I think we'd lose some of the charm of the news scroll.

Thank you! That is exactly the objective of the news scroll, and it means a lot to know that you see it this way!

I think it would be cool to come up with some lore about PvP chars
PvP only chars could be spirits of warriors constantly being reborn into battle with each death. Balthazar keeps granting them new chances because he favors their bloodlust.
