That is true, but don't diss the bones for instance like you did in an earlier post. I sold off a ton of them the other day for 80gp per 10, just from salvaging with normal salvage kit the horn bows and other bone yielding items. It was a question of time vs cost. It was faster and cheaper to salvage for bones in the short term for a big profit. Rare materials on the other hand take a bit longer, but the payoff is greater in the end. So it really depends on if you are in a position where you have to play fast and dirty or can wait it out for the prices to jump at the rare trader.

hmm - I'll have to reconsider the bones ... thx for the tip.
It's not that I've given up on raw materials altogether - it still pays the bills - but they're just not the cash cow they once were... Raw materials will always be more the steady income than windfall profits

Indeed....before the new patch, my e/mo could farm the mino's and griffons outside of augury like none other....good collectors item drops, plus alot of rare weapons as well. It's harder now that they nerfed ether renewal and aura, but it's still posssible

I agree too, I have a E/Mo that used to be really awesome at soloing until ANet went and decided to go and look at these fourms and piss everyone off by nerfing everything just for the hell of it...Point is monks are defently not the only soloers
EDIT:
By the way, does anyone know a good combonation on which Skills and Attributes i should use to run with my W/Mo?

I just remembered of something thats I needed to stress. You know how you all say, "Farming takes time, I garrentee you won't see progress in a couple of days." and, "Sometimes it takes days before i sell to the trader." Well thats exactly the problem for the people that are starting out. Most people when they start with farming have almost absolutly no money (like me) and can't even afford the salavge kits. So by the time we're done selling all this crap thats only worth salvaging to buy the salavage kits, we dont have anything to salavage. Also since it takes a while before you sell then after that salvage kit runs out this whole process starts all over again.
I just thought someone should speak up about that.

The trick is to sell pretty-much everything until you get to Yak's Bend. After then, you can try salvaging more often.

Heh, good old farming. I've got a 1.6 mil xp monk farmer and sittin on
about 500k at the moment, so here's a couple more tips on the subject.
A. As said, materials are king. If it's not gold, salvage it. You can go to
Droknars and make a killing.
B. If it's gold armor, don't ID it. Don't salvage it either. Just sell them as
is in places like Deldrimoor War Camp, Augry, and the like. Charge around 4-5
k apice for them, and you'll do quite alright. You might miss out on that Sup
Vigor or Absorptio, but it's better to not get one than do drown in worthless
Ranger or Necro runes.
C. If it's gold, max, and 8 req; don't ID it unless you absolutely want
the item for yourself and don't want to sell it. Gold max dmg/8 storms
can go for upwards of 100k, so think before you ID it. The pipe dream
of getting that 15>50 or 30 hp component is always nicer to keep a dream
than to ID it and find only mediocre mods.
D. Again, just solo. As in you only. The risk is greater, but the reward
far more delicious.
To reiterate, it takes time to amass the amounts upward of 100k, but
it's worth it to some people. I just happen to be one of them.

Could someone please answer these questions:
1. What are the best (in your personal opinion) Attributes and Skills for the monk smite build (Mo/E)?
2. Whats the best place to farm with the smite build?
Thanks
BTW: How about this: we all post up that the places in the Droks run are the best places to farm, then ANet wil nerf it and we can make a whole bunch of money doing the Drok run because the'll take out all the monsters Ha ha ha...Just kidding
EDIT:
Erk...Scratch that, I just remembered that nerfing is make the monsters stronger, not making them go away... And I thought that idea was so good lol

Hmmm.
I guess Im doing a lot of things wrong.
I myself have farmed "actively" for only like a month or so..
I dont have the patience to do it for more than two hours straigh.. probably becaus Im unhappy with what I get out of it.
I have hesitated making a smiting monk becaus of the nerf on Balthazars Aura, and don't really know/ been bothered to look up other possible builds.
What I do for farming is I go with my War/Monk (sword) to kill Desert Griffons west of Augury Rock.
Even though I am secondary monk, I am a pure warrior.
My skills are as follows:
Sever Artery
Gash
Power Attack
Final Thrust
Sprint
"Watch Your Self!"
Gladiators Defence
Healing Signet
My Attributes are 10 in strenght, 14 in swords, 11 in tactics.
My sword is (awful) :
Fiery Dragonsword (hahahah)
15-22 (req 8)
+12% While over 50%HP
[no upgrades]
For my Shiled I use my European Pre-Order -item; Chimeric Prism
16 armor (req 9 strenght)
energy +5
Armor (Just got it ^_^):
15k Ascalons Helmet
rest all 15k Gladiators set.
=============================================
What I do is, I go into the zone, and kill.. everything.. except I tend to avoid scarabs becaus I dont like distracted Healing Signets. I only take on one group of either Minotaurs of Griffons at a time, becaus I cannot take any more.
One run takes me about 10 minutes.. (slow?) and by a run I make ~1k - 1.9k
I am still looking for a better sword, so any good gold sword drops I keep.
Till this point I havent gotten lucky with other gold/purple items, so I havent tried selling them. Most of em cost around 150-350ish gold after identifying and I just sell them to merchants or salvage if there are good upgrades. (Don't really know their prices, so havent tried selling.. currently got a +4ene staff grapping and a +29hp axe grip)
The other stuff I just identify.. it usually almost doubles the price on merchants.. like for example I had a half moon of 14-27 dmg, plain white.. costed 38 gold.. Identified and went up to 94.. almost triple..
Some weapons I salvage for iron and steel.
So yeh.. thats what I do. Kill the Griffons and possible Minotaur patrols that catch you.
Identify the whites and sell.
~1k - 1.9k in 10 mins.
Now I don't know if thats any good, but sure is boring :/
Though I noticed that it only took me around four days of "farming" to wear 60k on me in form of armor + ofcourse the materials. Im happy.. my first full 15k equipment ^_^;
================================================== ======
I have noticed that prices of materials are higher if sold to material trades instead of regular merchants, but I havent looked for peak- moments and my maths is too bad to realise that fact that I can make a nice profit.
================================================== ======
Im going to have to try this.. but.. it mite be a while before I get to play GW again. My computer was just taken away becaus my parents blamed gaming for my bad school succes. (currently sititng on my bros comp)
Wonder when I'll have it back.
================================================== ======
Good luck to everyone who engages on farming or developing new technicues to do it /thumbsup
~Cheers
-Arthur

by far best place to farm is outside the Eastern Frontier with the level 24 and 29 charr... But down side. you got to finish the game to get the titain quests to initiate them... or join groups farming from the ruins of sumeria

A great big tip: PICK UP EVERYTHING!
Everyday I casually play for 1 hour or so and just do random quests+mission I make 2k+.
It doesn't matter if I'm actively looking for it, I make it reguardless.
It's really the *spending* of your money that makes you poor or doesn't permit you to *top* a certain amount of money.
It doesn't matter what proffession you are and what armor requires what component to make because one way or another you can always craft-salvage-trade other items in order to gain them.
As someone graciously said: Instead of trying to sell an uber item you could be out there salvaging stuff and making actual money! Only offer to sell to those who posts WTB.
Offering to sell to those who are looking is never a bad idea you're more likely to do an actual *trade* instead of talking and haggling.

Very good advice, I sell gold unid'd armor all the time for 5k a pop and at one point I even had a customer base of regulars that wanted to buy any that I could get (Before SF update and nerfing craziness). I have almost 250K gold. I've never found any "Godly" gold weapons...my coolest drop was probably a 6-16 Sickle that I hear is supposed to be really rare, I haven't sold that yet. Also remember to move a round, farming the same spot over and over again will kill your drops, have more than one place to farm so when drops start to go you move on and give the monsters a break to "recharge"

I'll try using expert salvaging more often from on now then - I usually only use those if there's an item with a rune or a upgrade.
Is there a list of items that always produce basic materials regardless if u use expert or not?

I think its only certain collectors items. it would require alot of testing.. and probably a new thread.
