I buy the expensive armor due to the looks.

As a girl, I must have a very fashionable sprite with the most vivid, tasteful of colours upon her wardrobe.

And yeah, some guy once went up to my non 15k-wearing Ritualist(I don't like the 15k armor for Rit) and was like, "Hey girl, nice armor...how much was it? 900gold? hahahaha"

I mean..wtf. -_-;;;...

Warrior: 15k Kurz, 15k Lux
Necro: 15k Lux
Monk: 1.5k Kurz
Ranger: 15k Druids

but nonetheless, the majority are 15k.

Bought 15 k kurzicks due to looks for my monk, and 15 k end game armor for my Warrior seeing, well end game armor.

If I can get the function & the fashion, that's what I go for.

My Warrior has 15k Gladiator's armor with a 1.5k hauberk. She doesn't have the 15k hauberk because she doesn't want her boobs popping out during battle.

My Monk has 15k saintly armor - she's kinda high-maintenance.

My Ranger has 1.5k Druid's armor - the 15k version looks slutty, according to her.

My Mesmer has (hard earned) FoW Enchanter's armor - she hated running around the battlefield in her nightie.

I have 15k Wanderers armor for my monk. Why ? Because I like how it looks, and it doesnt make him look fat (yes, he does look fat in other armors) and I dyed it black because it looks cool. Did i eBay money ? No, hell no! I used a Mo/R shiverpeaks running build and made around 50k, bought materials, and got my armor, and it looks AWESOME! Props to ANet for making the art on it so cool ^_^

I dont buy 15k armor because its 15k, but because it looks cooler.

I go on looks and looks only. Most of the time, 15k looks better, especially in Prophecies, but this is not always true. I'd never buy 15k female Druids armor in Prophecies, for example. Running around in a string bikini decorated with a few sticks attached... no thanks. This happens even more often in Factions... especially with the faction-specific armors, the 1.5k version looks markedly superior to the 15k. Which is great; it means I don't have to spend as much money to look good.

As long as the armor is max al for the character, it's looks first then functionality. If that mean I have to do with less energy, so be it.

Now.. if I had that sort of money for weapons... oh well, that'll come with time.

The only character that I have that is not based on looks is my male monk.

When I play him all I see is the team health bars, I don't care what he looks like.

For everbody else, it's all about her back that I am going to be staring at all day, might as well make it worth looking at.

btw having 15k and/or fow makes it easier to get into groups, cause it looks like ur more experienced even though u might have just ebayed the money and bought a bunch of runs

I don't mind how people spend their money, hell I have over 900 plat and nothing to do with it... I just think equating armor with skill is poor judgement. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Anything that can be bought in Guild Wars cannot be associated with skill, because obtaining huge sums of money does not always equate to high skill level.

Id have to agree with majoho here. I will not ever buy 15k armor, unless it gave 10X the protection of 1.5k. Unlike most of the posters here, I dont give a rats ass about looks. As Ive said to some other people, if it gave something like 120 base armor for necro, Id wear a damn clown suit. As much as many of you are into looks, is how much Im into functionality. I might SEEM noobish at times(been playing 8 months now), but thats because I dont bother to study games to the point where(in GW) I can recognize a skill from its picture(if I dont have it), I just "learn as I go", and lookthings up when/if I feel I need to.

Question.

From what I've read - FoW armor sounds like the elitest of the elite in terms of armor....even though most of it just looks disgusting and I'd never buy it.... So, when it comes to the rest of the armor, surely 15k Kurzick armor is the next most 'elite' armor there is since you have to obtain so many bloody amber chunks for it? Then Luxon armor, since Jadeite is cheaper, and then all the other 15k armors?

It seems that it's not just me who goes on looks rather than cost...that's encouraging!

QFT. Anyone who has been playing since Prophecies started pretty much has one of the best weapon or something very close like collectors stuff with some mods. After awhile, money is pointless in this game, good only for equipping your guildies with the best stuff. Prestige isn't really a big deal, except in the mind of someone buying the armor, because GW really is designed for the casual player, where skill matters more than level. Best way to say this is that someone will always take you in their group, regardless of what you are wearing. The only thing I ask people about their armor is if it is infused when we will be fighting Mursaat. I've been in plenty groups where people got their shiny new armor and forgot to infuse.

If the armor or weapon looks good aestetically, I'll buy it for my toon if my resources can handle it. Unfortunately, many of the better looking armors happen to be 15k, and the pretty weapon skins (e.g., crystallines, phoenix blades, fellblades, etc) tend to go well beyond 300k+.
