Someone mentioned World of Warcraft being the best for a Pay-to-Play game. And in a sense, that could mean that World of Warcraft is among the best games out there, seeing that games that require payment usually have extremely high standards.
I simply twisted the words of the other poster into a different scenario.
edit - for those of you who havn't seen me post too often, I think it would be of your best interest to know that I have a strange "think outside of the box" approach to things. More often than not, I twist things way out of proportion and it can be hard to understand. Now..if I could apply that to mathematics..

i actually played WoW when it was released, in part because it was released before Guild Wars but seriously, WoW is a nice game. i really enjoyed my 2 months stay in WoW. you have to pay a fee, but you get a lot in return. WoW had quite a lot of server troubles in the beginning, and for every day you couldn't play because of that, you got an extra free day, which was, pretty nice.
what i really didn't like in WoW were the "artifical" boundaries. usually in rpg's i play only humans, and i just did not like the fact that not every class was available for every race. i would have loved to start a human ranger, but humans could not become rengers you have so many choices in WoW, why start with limiting your characters profession?
WoW has a very rich and nice world to explore. there were some breathtaking sights in the game. but i missed the many details you can find in Guild Wars. somehow i felt, A-net put more love in the world creation. there are so many little things to see, you just don't know where to start. and of course there is the comic look of WoW characters, which i really don't like that much. i prefer the more "real" (how real can a video game become anyway ) look of Guild Wars.
in addition to that, GuildWars gives you more freedom to build your character. you can choose what your character's roll will be for that specific mission, something i really like. it's like rerolling a new chracter over and over again
all in all i'd really say it's just a matter of personal preferences. it's really hard to compare both games, let alone judge which one is the better game. both are very good games, WoW just doesn't have what i look for in video games i really don't see how you can hate WoW, or someone playing WoW. it's an excellent game, might just not be your personal choice.

Who are you to decide that I can't dismiss a game because of its graphics? I happen to find that disliking something you have to look at 100% of the time while you play is a perfectly legitimate reason to dismiss a game.
I've seen it at a friend's. First, he had to queue for a while before he got on. Then I got a look at the graphics.
Queueing and graphics I dislike. I didn't need to see more to decide I wouldn't be playing that game, ever.

So a game doesn't look great, that must mean that the whole thing must be horrible?
Don't judge a book by it's cover. Refer to that statement if you must, for I was discussing the fact that people hate the game as a whole because of the graphics.

Because it's ugly. I can't stand the retro console-style graphics of WoW, doesn't matter if there's a good game underneath.

No, but it means it's ugly.

WoW gives the feeling of being in a real world, being able to have certain freedoms that arent available in GW. GW, on the other hand, has an awesome pick-up-n-play value, and u can log in for 15 minutes, and log out without any hesitation. for w/e reason meh fellow gw players hate WoW, plz explain to me. (p.s. i NEVER hear of any1 in WoW say "go play GW")

Because people playing WoW won't spell properly even if a gun is held to their head (like you).
I wonder why people don't realize that stupid shorcuts like y, r, u, plz, ppl, any1 and even using 1 instead of one makes readablity worse.
Actually your whole post is against the posting rules here - I guess in WoW terms that would be L2S (Learn to spell).

If a game looks horrible to me, I don't even care to look beyond the graphics. I'm not really picky though, I don't require state-of-the-art graphics for every game I play. Heck, I still even play ASCII based games. WoW's graphics just rub me the wrong way.

If that's what you were discussing, you should take care to bring that across in your posts, because even upon rereading, that's not what I got out of it.
And, I don't think the in-game graphics are equivalent to a book's cover. They are content. The game's packaging, that's like the books cover.
Also, I did mention I didn't like the login queue, so that's another reason I gave besides the graphics.

WoW got heavy long grind, GW have grind but not as much as WoW.
WoW classes are kinda fixed, constant buffing and nerfing that makes the game just unenjoyable. Simply put, they don't know how to design a class. You can't communicate with the enermy, its like playing 2 different games, unless you are on IRC or forums.
Gameplay, its interesting for a while, then it is repeating, a lot of games repeat contents, GW does too, but GW rerpeating contents are optional. WoW is required, you have to do quest or grind to level up and the quest are the same after level 15.
I played WoW for a long long time and i got sick of the grinding for equipment, you have to get the equipment in order to be effectable unlike GW, its about the skill setup, sure equipment help, but it doesnt affect much like WoW does.
PvP, no tourney, just best of the server and even best means nothing, it means you spent so many time grinding in BG.

I tried to play WoW for a while, but was horrified by the amount of grind there and the inertness of combat (is it combat really or just interactive cartoon?)

I'm not too keen on the grind of WoW, but I absolutely love the graphics.
I'm a sucker for retro and low poly stuff. I would MUCH rather something look like quake 3 than doom 3... all wrapped in plastic wrap and whatnot.

Well, what I did love was professions (not classes), transports and some other RP elements - GW is more like instant-action in that regard - all to keep the precious balance.
And yeah, dungeons, dungeons! Catacombs from pre-sear!

We do not need another GW vs. WoW thread (there are enough) and please try to make an effort to have fellow forum members understand you by typing in complete sentences. This forum requires a post to be readable with no leet speak and some effort involved.
