It's not really "ruining" the economy. When prices are driven down, things are more affordable, if anything, the economy improves. No longer will we see as many "100k + 40 ectos" prices float by.

naw its cantha only... but allas I farm the south regions of Kur and lux rather frequently with a lot of success... The mods are always great if not the massive amounts of runes I have unlocked down there... Its just that when they opened up the elites those chests dropped in quality... I'm betting the same will happen after it goes back to normal after the event in my normal spots now.
Not too big a deal.. I have a few reserve spots in Prophecies I still use with great returns... BUT I have to admit, Its going to be interesting to say the least to the poor reseller market. Its looking like demand is dropping for everything exponentially as players are able to get goodies on their own now without the high prices getting in the way.

Are the fire islands located on the canthan continent?
Thanks for the clarification Gaile, although when there is potential ambiguity with the wording (in this case a chest on the canthan continent, versus the chests called Canthan Chests), why not just say "All chests in Factions" with the little tm sign. That should make it perfectly clear what the intention is from the beginning.

Depends on where you go. If you are talking about the dmg mod, then it depends on where you open your chest. Generally once you are past the city into luxon and kurzik territory you should always get at least max dmg.
If you are talking about the mods, well that is just luck of the draw.
I have gotten so many bows lately with a Marks +1 19% chance it makes me sick. Can't seem to ever get the 20%.

Another Double-Your-Fun Weekend 8 August 2006
This weekend, August 11 to August 13, you'll find yourself twice as likely to nab a rare drop from any chest in Cantha. And, to help you get into those chests, you will also notice an increase in the drop rate for keys, too! Come along this weekend and see what you can add to your collection of cool items! The fun starts at Noon PDT on Friday, and ends at 11:59 p.m. PDT on Sunday.

Actually its more like fixing the economy. By doing the weekend the prices will hopefully drop. The thing that broke the economy and made the prices go so high was the influx of money from ebayers so if they successfully lower the value of some items it is a fix. Ebayers ruin the economy, not ANet.

I do not think they are ruining the economy. I am also sick and tired of the 100K+Ectos WTS posts. Even when I have weapons that I am selling, I post for prices such as 50-80K, even if they are worth 100K+Ectos. This would make it so that everyone can get their fair share of good loot.

The only "economy" that will be "ruined" is the eBayers and their suppliers. The more top items that are in the game, the less monetary demand there will be for them. People wish for the GW economy to be more of a hardcore capitalistic one, when in reality a more idealistic communist style one (everyone has all, equally) is more suitable to balance and gameplay.
(Please don't confuse the word 'communist' with the false usage that socialistic governments have used. Totally different.)

Worst...idea...ever...
I was just sitting here thinking, "How could ANET screw the economy even more? Maybe they could make it so more perfect gold items are introduced into the economy... yeah that would be great...then everyone could have whatever they wanted...and we all be equal..." and we would live in a communist society. (North Korea and China putting "the squeeze" on you guys?)
Thanks ANET for make rare items even more common!

Prices are sooo low right now. What are you basing this on? Someone run that search for the r13 14>50 Spatha that sold for 300k last year. Same sword now... merch.
Lastly, noobs ruin the economy with their constant whinning and bitching and complaining about how they dont get to start the game with everything they want, 1000k in the vault, a 15> crystalline, and a set of FoW armor.

Bah, you think too much like a capitalist. Of course, if you grew up in that society, that's perfectly normal and nothing at all wrong with it.
But... this is a game.
The gold isn't real.
The economy isn't real. There's no GWSE that rings open every morning at eight with people placing fortunes on the futures of commodities or buying stock in your various merchants.
This is a game, and more specifically, it's a game about balance where skills and the use of same are the determining factor, not wealth or skins.
That being said, the goal of the game should be not to have a U.S. style capitalistic society, but one where everyone has easy access to everything needed to compete as equals. There should be no classes of haves and have nots. Sure, you can cough and say greens, but the mentality is such that someone relying on greens is somehow a lower class than someone with a perfect zodiac whatever with the exact same stats.

What happened to Chapter 1 is they got it right-they don't need gimmicks and special events to get people to play.
Now if the chests in Cantha ALWAYS gave double the chance for good loot...nah, I'll still play is Tyria.
Good try, though.

I guess all the chests in Cantha will give double-rare drops this weekend. What about chests in elite missions? would they also give double-rare drops?
