Guys... dont ask Anet for telling what parameters they use to detect bots. This will give bot-owners usefull information that enables them to avoid the parameters.
I think I also know the reason why they wont apologize for this whole matter now.

Having read through this thread and the similar ones on other GW Forums, my guess as to what happened is as follows:
1) The team working on bot detection tightened up their parameters on what is and isn't detected as being a bot. One of those parameters is how much time is spent "playing" the game during a week.
2) The Dragon event encouraged people to behave in a very bot like manner by being AFK on the rings game for 24/7 in order to gain the Lucky/Unlucky titles.
This would seem to me to indicate a lack of internal communications at ANet who should have predicted that people would spend several days AFK in order to gain the new titles, however at the same time the bot detection team tightened up their detection system and accidentally detected lots of people playing more than a "normal" amount of time over the last week.
I too was AFK on the rings for long enough to gain the Lucky/Hapless titles, so I am actually dreading going home from work tonight to see if my account has been caught up in these bans. I am actually betting it has been...
It would probably have been sensible PR to blanket unban ALL the accounts that were banned last night. Those accounts that really are bots will be caught again next week, and those people who occasionally use bots but are mostly legitimate players would also have had a wake up call showing them that bots are now being actively hunted down, so it would have been a win/win for ANet.
Just my opinions and guesses of course.

Should be interesting going home tonight, 5 hours 30 minutes till I get to check I think. I'm not too worried though, if I've been banned I'll just send them a ticket and wait for my response.
If you've done nothing wrong you've got nothing to worry about. That has to be the motto.
I have the lucky/unlucky level titles but stopped a couple days ago because I didn't want the higher levels.
Maybe I should start up a thread and take bets on whether someone will be banned when they go home.

Oh if anyone has been banned and restored, what process did you do to let the support team know? Was it just using the plaync support links or is there another auto-reply route you can take?
Thanks

Just use the web support on PlayNC. The team is likely to ask you for information including your account name, and any character names. One of the support team will get back to you as soon as they are able to assist you.

Go to the thread linked on the front page of gwguru and your answers will be solved . Also sending multiple tickets would make it even worse.

repply to Alex
Alex, the attendance this programmed by a computer. Once closed the account, a computer attends to you and it does not give clear answers.
We must pass the filter of a computer several times so that a person responds
I repeat, never I have made serious offenses for this sanction.
Sorry, but i don´t speak english very well. I write from Spain.

I haven't checked my account yet today, but I'm nervous as I did attain the Lucky (2) title.
They banned 4000 people. How many do they ban on a regular sweep? Surely it is a tiny fraction of that number. The only sensible PR move at this point it to publicly admit that this is a mistake and release all the banned accounts. Yes, that will bring a few of the bots back online, but the real people inconvenienced by this must be in the vast majority.
As Gayle said, they'll get the bots on the next sweep.
The fact that this happened at all shows lack of foresight. These games were introduced as a money sink, presumably to help curb inflation in the game economy. The titles were added as an incentive to play the games. If they hadn't intended us to go afk for hours upon hours and spend hundreds of plat, then the title goals would have been orders of magnitude smaller. They knew what they were up to with the games, it's a pity that they didn't foresee the bot filter picking up on players and it's completely outrageous that they won't now admit the mistake and take immediate and wide-reaching action.
Individually handling each case is, frankly, completely unacceptable.
