so... i was healing monkinating on a 5man run to SF when the prot monk(he had no maintained spells and wasnt doing much)started yelling at me that "i was the worst healer he had ever seen" and "he was doing all the healing himself" seemingly for no reason except for in the battle for yakslapper, one of the eles aggroed and his hp got below 50% hp (which i promptly healed) i explained to him that i was healing but he would shut up, and none of the members of the group were saying anything, so i said "to hell with this, im not spending my recreation time with a jacka$$" so i left and found a NICE grp 30 sec later

This happens EVERY time I am in a PUG with an Ele. They will tell you it works fine still. They do it in SF, they do it in FoW and UW and then blame the Monks for the group getting wiped out; what happens in reality is echo nuker casts Meteor Shower shower or Fire Storm; high level Mobs get angry and rush cloth wearers; monks get squished and party dies.
Ele will then call the party n00bs and leave.
If I had to write a list of names of Eles who do this, Chapter II would be here before I had finished!

This wins no award for biggest jerk, and doesn't point to any one single player. But this happened to me ONCE AGAIN last night, so I thought I would add it.
We form a party for farming in SF. Not 8 members in the group, but 6 so we have a greater chance at green drops. We are one W, 2 Mo, Me and 2 E. Shortly before we even get to the entrance to SF our Warrior gives the "oh, sorry folks, I got to go" and leaves. Our only warrior. We decided to go back to town and start again.
Maybe I am just unlucky in this, but I haven't experienced an SF farming party with PUGs yet which didn't have so many key party members leave part way through, that continuing would have been extremely difficult if not impossible. The jerks here are the ones who join a farming party without being sure that they can stick around for the duration. In fact, this happens so often, I am beginning to wonder if people just join farming parties to kill time while waiting for friends or guildmates to get done doing other things.

Yeah, what's that about?
You spend ages putting a team together only to find 2 minutes into the mission some jerk drops out because "it's dinner time", or "their brain just fell out of their ear".

I was doing Thunderhead Keep with my mesemer, the team was good and nice except one warrior. He was idling when we started the mission and about half-way trough he comes back and says "sry, i fell asleep", right. We were doing fine and everyting looked good, until the same guy decided to light the bonus beacons despite everyone else was shouting at him to not to do it. Well, he did it anyway and we failed. So, once we got back to the outpost, we kicked him, got another guy to take his place and completed the mission without bonus.

I really think they should introduce a voting system, so you would be able to kick someone from a team, if the majority wanted to. It would probably make quite a few of these idiots stop beind so damn selfish

If you wanna find the biggest jerks in Guild Wars... Check out the Ascalon Arena. I saw a level 10 W/Mo... wiht mending and healing hands on himself... had 1.5k Gladiator's armor. Whenever someone died he would type... "hahaha I pwned you, nub!" We finally lost.
I remember my first PVP was in that arena. It was my first day in post searing. I got called a Nub and told I sucked. To this day hardly ever PVP.

Cowardly Jerk Story-- PVP in Random Groups I was playing a lvl 19 ele that I was bringing along and the other 7 were all lvl 20's . I immediately thought oh-oh and sure enough one person in my team dropped. We continued to fight and after a 2nd left, I dropped out once I died. One player from the other team - had to whisper me how they owned and I was a noob idiot.
I tried to reply, but they had already put me on their ignore list! This person was such a chickens**t, that they had to put me on their ignore list before they spammed me their BS. What a coward. I hope I run into this idiot when I am running my warrior.

my gf met her newest jerk tonight. she ran a guildmember to droknar (he was only level 5 but his 7th character so no harm done) from ascalon then since he's not short on cash he asked if she could run him to granite citadel to get 15k. of course being cool as she is she said yes and even asked if anyone wanted to be run to a 15k armour town. one filled team later and off she went.
now i think she is an amazing runner and i like to watch so i sat near her watching as most people died and gave the usual encouragement that people give being ran from droknar to granite for free.
needless to say she got there without dying and no sooner did she set foot in granite than one total idiot started spamming that she was a crap runner, she sucks, shes ruining the game running level 5 players to granite (yes he saw the level of our guildmember when he joined and said nothing then), called her a loser because she lost nearly half her health on the warcamp - granite part and generally being abusive.
now this i just cant understand, why be such a jerk when you have just been ran from droknar to granite, why not just say thanks and move on?

Because he has extremely low self esteem so in order to make himself feel better, he puts other people down. Or he has no life. Or both.

*is a W/Mo*
The biggest jerks I've met are two monks from a four-man team I played in PVP. Their team consisted of them, another monk, and an elementalist. All the monks healed each the team while the ele tried to attack us. Some monks ran around with swords. They never died because 3/4 of their team was healers. But, they weren't very good at killing us, either. So we ran around. A lot. We killed their elementalist a bunch of times, he left. The other monk eventually left. But the two would not leave. Eventually the rest of my team died and left. And then I remained there. I think I was "tanking" them (I wasn't even using a tank build... I was testing a new build, if I had stuck with my old one, I would definately have killed them) for about two hours. Meanwhile they shouted insults at me, trying to get me to leave so they could get their faction. They were like "Oh, good thing I have 6 computers and accounts so I can play while I kill you". Eventually I closed the chat box and minimized the GW client. After a few minutes, I came back, and saw my health low. So I left, finally. A waste of a couple hours. And after, they kept trying to insult me. Placed them on Ignore, though - they're still on the list now.

Oh my... I was gonna post the exact same thing but hey... why not just quote him... Not to mention this person purposely aggro'd all the aataxes to us to make us die faster. This happened months ago to me and I still remember the monks name.

The plague of UW Solo Monk Jerks

Good riddance. But I was stunned. Didn't realize people could be so stupid
|
So true. It's so easy to blame the minions. I've had it happen a few times where someone claims "the minions did it!" when it was their own stupidity that got them killed. I always keep a sharp eye on my own aggro and the aggro on the minions. It's fairly easy to spot when a minion has hit a mob w/ their aggro range, as they either swivel to start attacking (fiends), or a whole ant trail of green dots starts heading towards the mobs on radar. It's also very easy to pull back the bulk my minions back out of aggro and let the few stray ones sacrifice themselves. So it's always quite easy to see on radar who aggro'd what, but it's much easier for many players to make minions the scapegoat.
Anyway, I have a few jerk stories of my own to share:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SOLO MONK JERK(S) STORY #1
With the recent AOE/AI patch it seems that more and more "jerk" solo monks are ending up in UW parties these days. They will lie, beg, and cheat their way into your group, and once in use you like a parasite for their own ends. Basically this involves using the funds of the group (or 1 individual) to enter uw, using the time and resources of the party to clear the initial area of bulls and graspers while doing their best to get the rest of the party weakened and killed. Then making a dash past the last 2 pairs of bulls where the rest of the party will inevitably die if they try to follow. By now everyone else will be dead and they can solo smites on their own.
Well, the other day I was looking to find a uw group w/ my curse necro which isn't always easy as everyone only cares about "batteries". I'm sorry, but my necro comes w/ "batteries not included". In any case I got a quick invite from a 6/8 group led by 2 monks (mo/me and mo/w). Looked pretty good, 2 rangers, 1 war, a necro, an ele and the last invite was a monk. The monk was invited shortly after me, and by then everyone was shouting the usual "go go go"
So as soon as I zone into uw, I hear the familiar solo monk enchants go off. I click on the first mo/w in the party and see: balth's spirit, mending, prot spirit...
Well, it's pretty obvious what we have here, and I think to myself. great, another solo monk, ugh.
Within moments, the monk charges, the party follows, the warrior dies, and the casters start dropping. Well, I hate being used by solo monks with a passion, I've lost a few good groups and 1K donations to these soloers in the past, and I never let it happen again. Especially as I usually play a heal monk in UW, and know how annoying it is when you find that you're the only real monk in the party. Well, I did what I always do now: I run to the lost soul, take the quest to spawn the graspers, proceed to run around spawning all the nightmares, aggroing everything and then making a bee-line straight for the solo monk, knowing that their low hp and probably lost armor will make them a mob magnet. Solo that!
Of course, we all die and zone back to TOA at 7/8 (one of the monks left). I say, "kick the solo monk" (soloer was mo/w). party leader (mo/me) replies "no".
Then before anyone can do anything else, next thing I know, we're zoning to uw again!
First thing the lead monk (mo/me) says is "no quest! no quest! no quest!". Then the sounds of enchants, followed by mad pinging on the radar (and you know the solo monk is behind that!). As most uw parties often have inexperienced players, they flock like lambs to the slaughter. Well, I look up and realized that BOTH of the monks were solo monks. I realized maybe I had made a mistake and they were running a build w/ a monk tank or something for UW. Well, that illusion was quickly shattered when the warrior went down in 2-3 hits as there was no one to heal or prot him (bad tank as well). I was curious what the intent of the solo monks were as usually there are not 2 solo monks in a party, especially one started by a solo monk. Was is accidental? or intentional...
It became pretty obvious that the solo monks were not in it for the party. I was curious what they were up to so I cast my curses and we managed to clear the mobs with several deaths. I'm so used to playing my heal monk in uw that I bring prot spirit on my curse necro to protect myself and others, but that still doesn't save a warrior with no heals. At this point there was only my necro, 2 rangers (with much dp) and an ele still around. All that stood between us and the smites were the last 2 pairs of aatxes and some graspers.
The usual manuever here is for the solo monk to run past the bulls, leaving those who follow in their wake to die horribly. So the 2 solo monks ran in madly pinging on the bulls they were tanking, and the ele was quickly slaughtered. I was drawing lines on the radar trying to get the rangers (who I had rebirthed many times) to stay back and messaged them that the solo monks were only trying to get them killed while using them. I said if the monks wanted to use us, let's see how they like being used and parasited off of. Well, one ranger ran in anyway to lay traps and got himself killed. Eventually the solo mo/w who was tanking 3 aatxes went down and died. I rebirthed the dead ranger who then left. The other ranger who just spent his time running from bulls and watching while I cast prot spirit him soon left as well. By now the dead mo/w's corpse (1 down I thought) was beginning to smell and so the monk left as well. Interestingly I had noticed that the two solo monks were not in the same guild, but they were cooperating in their little "scam"
So it was just me and the mo/me solo monk who started the whole thing. I just sat there and watched as the monk laboriously tanked the remaining 2 bulls. It was taking a while so i cast spiteful and other curses on them and killed them off. The monk tried to go the other direction towards the chamber, probably hoping to get me killed or to disconnect. I sat down, making it obvious I wasn't going anywhere and I wasn't about to be used so the soloer could get off wasting my and other's time, so they could go loot the smites by themselves. If the monk was going to waste my time I was going to waste theirs as well. The monk ran around for a bit then sat down as well. There was no communication between us, no words were needed, but it was pretty obvious what we were thinking lol. And then I only said one thing: "so what does it feel like to be a parasite all the time?". No response.
In any case, the monk shortly got up, probably figuring that they were wasting time when they could have been smiting. I followed, keeping the monk just barely outside my aggro, thinking they would probably try to get me killed w/ smites. The monk first tried to lose me by running past the first group of smites, but it's awfully difficult when the mobs prefer the tastier low hp monk. Having solo'd myself a long time ago, I knew the patterns of the smites and patrols so it was pretty easy to keep aggro off myself. Finally the monk gave up and started to solo the first group. I was pretty pissed at these parasite solo monks by then, so I just stood there and watched, not helping, except to attack once to ensure I'd get some of the loot. Well, what do you know, first group dropped a gold eternal shield and plenty of loot for me. Guess the solo monk has been farming too much! Next group the solo monk tries to get me killed again, but this time I decided to help out w/ some desecrate enchantment and other curses, figuring maybe the monk would give up and go duo. Again I get loot (which i turn into wood and dust) and the monk gets a few coins. After that the monk attempts to ditch me by running past the colds to another group of smites. But I know the patrols of the colds quite well, so the monk has barely aggro'd the smites by the time I catch up. More loot for me. Again the monk tries to ditch me, but before long I'm there again, watching, waiting... unfortunately no globs drop.
On the next group, the monk decides to run thru 2 groups of colds, and I miscalculated hoping to follow and get myself killed. I hope that jerk things twice before preying on another UW group again.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SOLO MONK JERK STORY #2
Playing primarily as a heal monk (mo/w) in UW puts me in contact w/ a lot of solo monk jerks it seems.
And this one was no exception.
I say if you're going to join a team as a solo monk, tell the group as I can bring vengence/spellbreaker and other skills to support you. Also if you're going to solo in a group, tank, because that's what you're good for.
Anyway, I join an almost full UW group as a healer. I like healing for pugs, the challenge is to keep these often unskilled players alive. And of course every so often you meet some wonderful and experienced players. Other times you instruct new players on the finer points of tactics in uw. This was back when solo monks didn't seem to try to infiltrate every other uw group out there. However I don't discriminate against mo/w as I play one myself (i love sprint), so I hate those players who immediately accuse any mo/w of being a 55 monk.
So we zone in and it looks like the other monk might a solo monk. lovely, I'm the only other monk, and there are 2 warriors to support. Well, I can keep 1 warrior alive in uw by myself, but 2 it quite another matter. especially when they both insist on hitting the aaxtes which tend to switch targets. I tell the solo monk to do his damn job and go tank, but of course he just sits there wanding away and casting prot spirit on himself. Well, I spend most of my energy keeping alive the better warrior while also prot spiriting the casters as they get hit. Every so often the solo monk casts a prot spirit on the warriors, so even though he's almost completely useless at least he's not getting us killed. Well, the group isn't bad, although one of the warriors goes down repeatedly as he isn't set up to take damage at all. Although many of the casters are inexperienced they learn to stay back.
Eventually the bad warrior leaves (whew) and our group clears the chamber with me supporting the entire group and the solo monk going down. Someone wastes a res sig on the monk. I keep an eye on the solo monk, keeping him alive, but also watching to see if he ran off to solo smites on his own. Next we cap the spider for the ranger who started the group. It turned out he was offering 3k per party member for the spider. Well, the ranger was eternally grateful and profusely thanked us for our help. Apparently he had been trying for a month to get the spider =)
Then someone took the escort souls quest, but fortunately not unwanted at the same time. I showed them how to clear the quest from the back way, and as we were going to get our xp, I noticed the typical pattern of a tanking solo monk on the party hp bars. Apparently our worthless party member had snuck off to go smiting by himself. Well, I wasn't about to let that happen, so after we all collected our xp, I went to the reaper and teleported the party back to the labyrinth.
Well, the monk was probably a bit surprised, but then took off down the corridor by himself towards the ice planes and smites again. So I waited for the monk to get a good ways down, clicked on reaper, take quest, unwanted guests. Bam, hp goes from full to 0, another solo monk jerk down. Solo monk leaves. Warrior goes, "omg! who did that!" Me, "I did, lol. He was going off to smite by himself" We all had a good laugh and said how much we hated solo monks in groups. The ele said she was actually thinking about taking unwanted guests herself when the monk started off again. Another member had left when I took the quest so we were down to 5 people in the party - mes, ranger, war, ele and my monk.
It was easy enough to lead them thru unwanted guests, as the mesmer was amazingly resilient to death. They were all pretty good players and although the ele didn't know when to stay back we got thru and finished unwanted, the only tough part being the spawning area in which the mesmers left over from escort souls had to be pulled.
The nice thing about jerks in uw though, is that once they all leave you only have the nice players and the good players left in the group.
--------------------------------------------------------
SOLO MONK JERK STORY #3
ok, this post is getting horribly long so this will be short.
this is about how most parties don't seem to care whether or not a monk is a solo monk in their party. all they care about is seeing that there are two or more mo/ in their party. i don't know if it's ignorance about what a solo monk is or is incapable of, or just willful denial.
anyway, i was in a group doing dnkp (defend north kryta) from toa. this quest is often not easy to get a group together for and i needed it for my monk. the toughest part of this quest is probably finding the monks for it, so we were glad when we found a monk. the group leader reiterated many times that our group was not a uw group for any new monk. i told one of the 2 necros to go minion and asked the ele if he had ward vs elements. everyone was getting sick of waiting as we had been just sitting around trying to get that last monk for the group. so off we go with the warriors running us to bergen. well, middle zone, i figured out that the monk was a soloer and told the group we would have to go back and pick up another monk because this one would just get creamed w/ all the necro mobs on the quest.
well, no one seemed to want to reform, so it figured might be possible to complete the mission w/ sheer numbers, as I had finished the quest w/ my minion master necro from lion's arch and only 1 monk in the party.
long story short, monk died many times on the run, ele never replies to requests for ward against elements, i tell the group repeatedly we have a f'ing solo monk but whatever, group insists to press on, warrior agrees with me that we'll probably die w/o ward, we make it past first group and someone wastes a sig on the solo monk, 1/2 way thru the final part where it looks like we might actually make it, the reinforcements come in and eats us all for lunch as no one bother to res the fallen. of course it isn't until we fail the quest that everyone complains about the solo monk and how he kept dying lol.
----------------------------------------------------
oh i have so many more solo monk jerk stories but no time to tell them now.
suffice it to say, i've developed severe solo monk parasite hate recently. the worse ones are the ones are invited into the group and immediately zones the imcomplete party to uw, uses the ensuing confusion to get the group to kill most of the mobs out of self preservation, then ditches the party to their deaths as they run their way to the smites. thus your party is broken and your time is wasted. i feel sorry for those necros, mes or rangers who have a hard time even finding a group in the first place sometimes.
my blacklist of such monks is getting longer than my gw ignore list, i only wish they could be blacklisted on this forum.
arenanet has already told me they don't care.
in any case i hope these stories are entertaining as they may be twisted =)
- i used to solo monk in uw myself for fun, for a challenge when we were still discovering the build, and for fow armor. i know their habits, their nuances, their abilities and their limitations. i've also tanked as a monk in uw/fow and supported such monks. one of the fastest uw farming teams is still a party of 3-4 monks and rest eles/necro/mes. nothing kills like 5-10 meteor showers raining bloody hell on the mobs in addition to hexes, curses, etc, even after the AOE/AI update. however there is nothing worse in my mind than the scamming solo monk who takes advantage of your time and money, messing up legitimate groups or screwing over those who generously foot the entry to uw.
