I wonder if the slot actually activates before you put in the Nightfall key. If it doesn't then there is very little point in me bothering until I can get it cheap after release.

Sounds Really cool.. items look better then factions pre order..but knowing a net EU will get some amzing shield with teh ability of +5 energy like the 1st one and a staff with 20% chance to evade exaustion LOL thad be soo cool

Argh, I hate when Anet does this. Too much general information and then everyone comes on the forums to put there two cents in on what "this and that" means. Gaile, if your out there please answer these three questions.

1. Does the additional slot mean players will get three with the full purchase of the game?

2. Is Anets teminology for Preorder Pack and Prerelease Pack the same thing? I assume it is but if not please explain if we have to pay full price up front or what the deal is.

3. How will the Collector's Edition be preordered? Last time around I got screwed out of my CE due to it being late and even if it wasn't I couldn't preorder the CE specifically. So even if it was out during the start date I might not have gotten it. Hopefully you are making a Preorder (or whatever the hell you want to call it) for each version of the game.

Wouldn't it be sad if the "bonus" character slot was actually on top of ONE character slot that comes with Nightfall? I wouldn't know whether to laugh (shoulda saw it comin, can't believe they actually did it) or cry if that were the case but they would both end with a resounding proclaimation of WTF!

it has officially been answered that the retail prerelease bonus slot is additional to the slots (note slots plural) you get with Nightfall

Okay okay relax. No need to boldface at me like you're having a bad trip on some tainted AOL smack. It was just a thought considering how ANET was so skimpy on the extra character slot thing for factions. To start offering 3 slots for nightfall seems too good to be true even if the bonus pack is supposed to be purchased. I mean we all wanted at least a 3rd slot for factions CE and never got it. And now all of a sudden, 1-2 weeks after opening a store for buying slots, they offer another slot with the bonus pack? It's a nice addition but the timing seems a little off. Certainly too late for factions. So can you really blame me for coming to such a conclusion?

well, first of all, they have the technology set up to easily set up a free slot
secondly, they now realize how important extra slots are to almost everyone, more then the "casual" gamer they originally assumed would be the majority.
third, there was some bad publicity from the GW store. everyone automatically started screaming "We must pay for GW stuff to stay competitive"
not true, but still a very big concern to many people.
fourth, how many people are going to go out of their way to preorder, just because of the slot? and how many people who preorder will then buy the game? most,probably. the GW store overload was proof that slots are more desirable then originally predicted.

i will go along with that with one reservation.

it may be the following friday if they dont have time to set up a halloween event for Nightfall.

it might be a bit crowded to launch on friday and also get a full scale event going at the same time especially as they will be having halloween in Tyria, some event in Cantha and xxxx in Nightfall all at the same time.

they may handle the events this week and the launch the next week rather than all at once

Heh actually if that quote on the first page is accurate, it says:

"Guild Wars Nightfall Bonus Key, providing one additional character slot for a Guild Wars Nightfall account"

By the wording, you HAVE to own Nightfall for this extra character slot to work.

So in a general summary the Pre-Release pack (NOT a Pre-Order pack) will come with a bonus slot that will compound with the multiple slots offered in the NightFall Release (Probly 2, making a total of 3). The pack will cost somewhere around $10-$15 us and this price will NOT come off the price of a Nightfall purchase.

If this is the case then your pretty much just buying a character slot with some game music, weapons you don't need and a chance to play Nightfall a day before everyone else. Not really a worthwhile purchase in my eyes.

I do however like the Eygptian, Syrian and Indian motifs they have running in the galleries. I think Nightfall will be a surmounting expansion pack for Guildwars and an overall good buy.

early play comes with the preorder and was NOT listed as coming with this RETAIL PACKAGE

also since a price has NOT been listed it may still be a bargain

The pre-order pack for factions was around $10 and they (eb games that is) took that off the price of buying the expansion. So in the end you were paying the same thing for factions + the pre-order. This one being called a *bonus* pack, seems to not work the same way. But i can hope! Since past communications with retailers has been so screwed up, you might just end up with that deal again anyway.

Regardless, I'm getting the bonus pack... the day early, weapons, mini-guide, extra slot and the like sounds like a decent deal for the cost of just a slot.
