It's rather depressing and sad that I have money problems in a freakin' game. I already have to work hard for my money outside the game. So, I'm not really motivated to do a lot of work for money in a game, when that money doesn't even really exist...
They should make more money rewards for quests. Who needs 20,000 xp when you're already lvl 20 and have 40 or so skill points?

I recently got a second account. (Dirt cheap special edition box in a local shop, couldn't resist. ) and I started playing a new character through PvE. I'm at Yak's bend now, did every quest, every mission complete with every bonus. I visited all the places on the map and ran through nothing, but killed every obstacle in sight. I also completed each and every quest in the prelude, including all initial 2nd profession quests. Level 13 upon finishing the Nolani mission. All good.
Except, I still can't afford the ranger armor offered in Ascalon. I salvaged every armor I found. At where I am now, that only got me 22 of the 28 leathers I need, and only enough charr hides to trade in for 4 furs out of the 7 I need. If I go and buy what I still need, I'd not have enough gold left to have the complete set crafted.
I've only unlocked 1 rune yet (minor soul reaping) and 1 weapon upgrade (a blue axe one, can't remember off hand.)
Now, maybe I've had a terrible run of luck, but on my first run through the game I got the armor a whole lot earlier than Yak's Bend. I also managed to invest in runes and whatnot. All of that without ANY farming at all. I was eager to get ahead with the story. Trying it again about 5 months later, I can't scrounge enough gold and materials to get out of starting equipment without farming.
So... did the drops change, or am I really just very very unlucky? I'm beginning to understand why some people are begging in the streets.

If Yak's bend is the furthest you've been, then just be patient, you're no where near the half-way mark. If you've completed the game with a previous character/account, you may considering consolidating resources and money to support your newbie character. Either way, the drops hasn't changed. GL

Well now Seem I'm not the only one who thinks that the market and nerfing by anet is poorly implimented and overdone.
I am in no way poor and strongly arguing for the new people that they have nearly ruined this game. Also yes people buying the game today are buying a totally different game then we bough close to a year ago.
It seem to me anet is manipulating us and the environment to play one way in teams with 1-2 style builds by restricting and ruining the effects of spells and skills in PVE.
Wheres the diversity in build ability??
A few Words of advice.
First off complaining only seem to make them worse currecting them only adds another nerf to the list. They just don't care about the enjoyment of their customers and it shows
If ya wanna make money do a 55 mo/w or mo/me monk they still farm well i won't say exactly how much they can make solo farming tops side ( non SF,FOW,UW), But if i saved every penny i could buy a stack of ecto every 12 weeks. This is also working a 50hr a week job school 3 nights a week so its basically 4 days a week hardcore farming.
I feel for you really i do. In my guild i give away decent weapon and items and crafting materials and buy them several skills because of what anet has done. sorry but 55 monk or the near impossible w/n solos are about all that can make money without running teams for chest/greens then totally gouging people in the wake of the effect of nerfing.

This is my second account, my 1st one has almost a million gold on it. I'm playing as a newbie because I want to play as a newbie, for kicks. My point was, I'm really struggling now, which never happened on my very 1st run through the game. As I said, maybe I'm unlucky, but it really does seem a hell of a lot harder to make money starting fresh 5 months after my 1st run.
"a lot of the very early stuff just in not worth the price of salvage.
<very liberal snippage>
400 gold clear profit"
I realize all of that, Loviatar. That's why I'm only salvaging the materials I have a direct need for, and highly salvageable wood or iron items because those ARE profitable. Mostly, I've been salvaging leather armors for tanned leather squares. I only got 22 so far. Salvaging those is cheaper than selling the armors for a few gold and buying materials from the material trader. Everything else, I sell.
I did make enough gold in pre-searing to buy 2 bags and holding runes, so I could bring in the 'phat' loot, but it isn't happening. Level 13 in Yak's Bend, having played each and every bit of content up to there, and I can't afford Ascalon armor sold in Ascalon City, without totally and utterly bankrupting myself. Maybe I'm a spoiled brat, but it doesn't seem right.
On retrospect, the big difference between this run and my 1st one is the amount of dyes I get. The first time round I found tons, several silver among them, and they made life easy. Now I'm still only up to 3. That alone accounts for 3 or 4 platinum which would make all the difference. I also remember finding more than a few runes on the charr armors on my 1st character. Now, no more than a single one.
Having said all that, I'm still willing to believe I'm just very unlucky and the drops didn't change, but it starts feeling more and more unlikely.

mind you i give out average of 20k wepons 2-5k for skills and cap sigs and limitless materials to recruits.
And also gave out 200k for the holidays to my officers who i have trained and gained their loyalty thru this process.
Why because even with 5 months under their belt they still struggle to get godly wepons that do make a difference in pve as well as pvp

are you using henchmen? are you playing solo? or are you forming player parties? how big is your party?
if you use henchmen, that you might want to consider reducing the henchmen. if you do it solo, you might want to just take a single henchman. as a veteran player, i am sure that you know how to handle yourself.
i am also in the middle of taking a new character on a new account through the game (my 6th time... aggh! yes, i know... i am looking for a new game that will keep my attention to play...) and i noticed that except for the most difficult quests, all i need is 1 henchman. this typically speeds up the loot gathering rate.

black 19 min in..
pre seering is dye farming heaven I did it for a while takes forever to make a decent farmer preseer. I did this for a while and averages 5 black dyeand a boat load of silvers and various colors a week just goofing off. only thing is ya want 4 lvl 20's ascended and fully capable ya sooner or later need to give up your field of dreams, bring it across and thus facing the farming challenge.
Its good for a first but i highly reccommend making 90k make a solo monk and farm your heart off.
At least thats what they seem to want ya to do.
sigh

I'm lucky. I don't care much about how I look in RL or in the game.
My wife and I have been playing since November. Between us we've outfitted six characters in Drok's Armor, at least two of whom have Major Vigor runes, accumulated about 100K cash, and probably another 100K in merchandise (she keeps the dyes on her account, but there are at least 6 or 8 blacks, and a whole bunch of silvers, and two sapphires, and that's before we even get to the weapons, offhand items, and so on).
That's also not counting our 800 candy canes.
We'll get by.

only if you're trying to get the best of everything...13% weapons are dirt cheap 1 to 2k...I spend more on skills for my war then that...geeze...I make 3k from just selling crap to a merchant running around in a hench party...
/fail
I wish a.net would put away the nerf bat and bring out the ban bat...show people they are serious.

pve and pvp 2 totally different worlds
in pvp its going to cost you 20k for a 15%^50% sword base 65k for the 30hp grip and 70k for 10/10 sunder that over 150k that takes ya how long to earn as opposed to 1hr gaining faction to unlock it their are 2 seperate games here.
And for those who need to pick their ears and give their azz a break...I AM RICH!!! I MADE MINE!!! I ONLY CARE ABOUT HOW HARD THE NOOB HAS TO STRUGGLE!!!!!I personally am bored and only here for my guildies.
youd cry like every farmer in pve if you had to spend weeks to gain enough faction for the same thing we farm hard to earn.
More people speak bad of the nerfs then for the nerfs.
my Point is made.

2000+ hours game exp.
Never bought gold, Never will
100% PvE chars.
-------Tips------
15k + armour is no better than 1.5k droks --- so save your money unless you just want "that different look"....
Dont pay attention to Lions Arch D1 Prices for weapons, i have a REQ 7 max dmg fiery dragon sword - dmg +19% hexed - +30 health.......ive asked for prices & been told that if i salvaged the health upgrade it would be worth something....but the +19% is not worth anything......bullshit....i stick this sword onto my IW mesmer chuck on a self hex.....or let some1 else hex you....wow i deal more damage than that massive tank..........weapon value? priceless
ALL drops are worth GOLD.....when i was a newbie i used to wonder what "precious" weapons were good for.....thinking they were something special i used to use them, upgrade them..etc.....now i know "precious" means they are just worth more GOLD from the merchant
Identify EVERYTHING, even if you get a GOLD rune, with a MAJOR inspiration rune......dont salvage it & sell the rune for 25g......sell the WHOLE armour 2 the merchant for 300+ gold.
DONT SALVAGE UNLESS "YOU" WANT SOMETHING, hides, armours, all moster drops are worth MORE intact, just identify them & sell them....this will get you more gold than salvaging & selling......unless ofcourse your 100% sure you will get a rare material etc.
SOLO LOW LEVEL / HIGH LEVEL AREA'S -- take a walk outside ascalon & kill everything insight....ALONE....tiny drops of gold soon add up if your not sharing them with a party.....if your stronger find a tougher area, for higher gold, better drops....tanks & 55 monks are not the GODS of solo.....my level 20 Me/N can solo 3 hydras....4 & im dead, by 3 i can handle.....again good drops if your alone.
DONT SPLURGE -- by this i mean, dont waste your gold....if everyone else is buying 12x dwarven ales & getting drunk......goto your fridge & get a REAL beer, save your gold for something more worthwhile.
REPEAT - REPEAT - REPEAT
do this enough times & you will not only have fun learning more about "YOUR" characters abilities, but you will get richer quicker.
hope this is some help

How to make money:
-Only buy armor in ascalon, then droknar's
-Don't buy skills that you can get from quests
-Do every mission
-Don't even buy anything other than salvage / ID kits
-Get a collector weapon at endgame
-Hunt your own greens
Without even having to interact with players, this guide will guarantee you 100k+ from gold drops and selling loot to merchants by the end of the game, which is enough to get your 15k armor + vanity weapon.
Too many people waste their money getting armor at every possible place they see, which is probably the biggest problem with new players.

maybe a little bit of each? making "enough" money in this game isnt difficult - making what you need to buy perfect items is. i've never gotten a perfect 15>50 drop, but ive sold a few items for decent prices. i dont ever farm for gold, but while out farming (for items or just the exp), i tend to make 5 to 10k in an hour easily. as for buying and selling, id say dont dedicate your existence to it, but if you see a deal, scoop it up and resell later. i cant count the number of times ive picked up iron and wood @ 6per and resold for 10 later when i needed some quick cash. as for ebay- hey im a fan. when i get home from a 13 or 14 hour work shift and see that perfect req, perfect 15>50 EXACT skin weapon ive been looking for at LA, i want to be able to afford it before i miss out. im not RICH in real life, but i can afford to buy a mil off ebay for $55 bucks if i choose to. some people cant, or just flat out refuse to - and thats their prerogative. as for me, id rather get what i want NOW and be happy. sure, i may respect the perfect storm bow i bought more if i had farmed for the gold- but quite honestly i dont have time for that. id rather spend my time in game doing what i WANT to do and not what i have to do to buy high end merchandise.
but seriously, play the game for fun- dont get too caught up on making money. the money, and the items, are always gonna be there.
