After awhile, I would sell the items to the merchant, or to the material trader for more gold. And if possible, I would exchange items at a collector and then sell whatever I got in exchange eg I had 39 Charr carvings which I could have sold to the merchant for 117 gold (at 3 gold each). Instead, I exchanged them for 13 bows at a collector and then sold all 13 for a total of 195 gold. I made a profit of 78 gold... To some, that is small change... To me, every little helps. And the bonus is, I didn't even have to work for it, they dropped and I picked them up along the way... easy money from one inventory slot... and my bag has 10.

I've tried farming Sorrows, and found it to be too frustrating with random groups. Nor do I farm UW.

I do what Yakumo and Sabretalon do, sell crafting materials. 250 Wood Planks will sell for 2k+ and even more if you sell them to players. And once you get to the later missions (Dragon's Lair and on) you usually get 8-10 wood planks from salvaging a simple white, no frills, bow. If you are dedicated, you could probably find a run that has good drops, and can be done with relatively few people, and make about 10k an hour.

Sure, it's not as glamarous, and can be pretty boring, but it's an easy way to make some gold.

why can't we all just be cool and let the koreans farm the gold (no racism, it is a well known fact), and we can all go buy it on ebay!!

Because it's against the EULA and a bannable offense, and quite a few people have had their accounts banned that do this.

I'm pretty sure that the price of collector weapons sold to merchant is the same as the individual pieces to make that collector weapon. At least that is the case with desert collector items.

Last time I checked, price for Wood Planks had dropped to 50 gold for 10, (or 1,250 gold for 250 planks).

Unless those Bows are selling for less than 50 gold, it's not worth it to Salvage them, esp. if you're using a Superior Salvage Kit!

Well, they have to save something for the Expansions, correct?

For all those complaining about not being able to get FoW armor right away, would you be happy if Anet just gave you armor today?

Now, I admit, it seems like the only reasonable way to get FoW armor was to get it earlier, but....

nothing is in stone. Who knows? Maybe the expansion will have some new piece of armor, with new stuff to collect, and the demand for Ectoplasm will go down. Or maybe GW will reset the price of Ecto to 300 again (although, you'd have to be on at the right time to benefit...)

I was just scammed out of 16 Plat, which set back my collecting for 15K armor. I was mad at first, but then realized that I would eventually get the money back, and I need to focus on just having fun and not on scoring Loot.

So I made up a new character, and am back in Pre! LOL.

Really? Have you ever even been on ebay and checked that stuff out? Obviously not. The people that sell the gold are very clever in they way they word it. They are not selling you 1000k gold, they are selling you the time they invested in getting that 1000k gold. Sell you gold = bannable offense, sell you thier time = nothing. No one that I have heard of has gotten thier account banned for buying gold on ebay. If they have they'd prolly have a nice little legal case against Anet. I'm not defending the use of ebay to become uber rich, I'm just stating my point of view.
Now, on that note, there were quite a few people that became rich early on because Anet hadn't "fixed" (hehe ) the game yet. But there are many many people who came by thier money the old fashioned honest way. Buy low, sell high. Some have gotten rich just by pure luck. I myself once found a req 8 gold fellblade and sold it unid for 70k. But I guess you could have 5 million people come on here with all the proof in the world that they make thier money honestly, and even show everyone else how to do it, and there would still be people bitching and complaining. That's the best part about living in a free country. You can piss and moan all you want and no one can do anything about it except piss and moan back at you.

Especially if you ID the weapon(s) before selling them to the merchant, which increases their gold value.

Hmmm... I'm quite sure that a Charr carving was valued at 3g, and for 3 of them I got a collector bow that I sold to the merchant for 15g. Hence getting as many bows as I could from the collector to sell. ACK!... I think I'll double check tonight, for peace of mind... just in case my eyes or my brain is failing me due to old age.

I was going to do the same with Stone Summit Badges last night, but the only collector I found would exchange 5 of them for a pair of necro gloves... Did one exchange to test the market, and found that a badge had a value of 8g and the gloves (which effectively cost 40g) was only worth 24g... Lucky I didn't exchange all the badges for gloves, else I would have had a pair for each day of the week.

There are ways of making money, some are better than others, but I'm in no rush to amass a huge fortune in gold. Yes, gold makes things easier, but if I cannot afford it, then I'll go without it... If I can't afford that mega super duper armour when I arrive at whichever city it's found in, then I'll make do with what I have or can afford... I'm not going to spend time worrying too much about gold... Why? Because I'm an adventurer and I should be out adventuring!

Hmm, I never seemed to have a problem with money and I don't spend much time farming. Farming for me means going out once in a while and clearing out SF for the items that drop. But then again, I have no intention of getting FOW armor, although my characters are beginning to acquire 15K armour.

But how to get money? Isn't it a good idea to take a tour to UW or FOW once in a while? I started to go to FOW with various groups, and I normally get 1 or more shards per tour. A good tour gets me a couple of them, and they sell for at least 3K per piece. And lately I have been going to UW with small trapper groups, 4 people max, and have been averaging 1 ecto for each 2 runs or so. Considering that an ecto can sell for 12-13K, that is good money and certainly enough money for me.

What I am talking about here means nothing to those of you who are farming for 100K and upwards per day. But if you are just a mere mortal like me, then UW and FOW trips can be a good way to get out of that financial hole.

In my honest opinion, the nerfing that Anet has introuduced to GW is causing loss in interest in this game. I know MANY people who are now not even bothering trying to get the money for the armor, which is what EVERY players goal is in this game, it's all about the armor. But when money making is near impossible it get's very boring and at time just stupid. I understand their reasoning for this nerfing, but common at least put it back so its SOMEWHAT hwo it used to be, when i LOVED the game, I'm even losing interest in this dam game. No more running, farming is bloody boring for the time it takes and the garbage drops you get, soloing...I would solo for HOURS on end, but now i go for 5 minutes and shut down the game and head over to MSN or something...yes, it's getting that bad..MSN INSTEAD of GuildWars!

Anyways, thats my 2 cents....

Uh, nope, you aren't speaking for me either. Its NOT about the armour. After finishing this game with 4 characters, what makes me continue to log in and play every night is the teamwork and interaction I get from partying with the friends that I have met on line. And trying out different combinations of skills for my four quite different characters.

If the people who spend most of their time farming this game are leaving out of boredom, well, for me that is fine, they are in the way of trying to form a good team to play this game anyway. Time to move on to the next game. Or read a book. Or make dinner for the first time since Guild Wars was released ....

you stop 'itchin here and go PLAY the game, and you will make some money

seriously, if you don't like the way ANET is running things, quit the game, you are not in a legal binding contract saying you HAVE to play the game.

thats my 2 cents for all you whiners
