Default Congrats to Jeremy Soule (composer of Guild Wars)

He won tonight's MTV VMA for Elder Scrolls: Oblivion for "Best Score in a Videogame"

Hint hint ANet, this wouldn't be a bad fact to advertise WHEN you link DirectSong in your Guild Wars store (why hasn't ANet linked the DirectSong music paks there already, anyway...?) The extra Prophecies music, imo, is well worth purchasing.

its fairly surprising to me that he can keep up the quality of the music considering the volume business he does.

Damn, completely missed that MTV was doing video games awards. I wanted to see if their site was as hilariously over-the-top uber-sucky as the SpikeTV awards site from last year.

I know at least one of the Factions songs is by a New Agey composer named Kitaro. I buy his CD's for my infant son, they make great lullaby music. If your into the whole 'soothing New Age' thing I really would recommend him, the Factions song is on his newest album. Soooo I'm thinking A-net might use a variety of composers for their tracks?

Nope, just Jeremy Soule, so either your mistaken, or there's something hinky going on.

This wasn't a video game award show, just a music award show. This was the only game related award.

I'm afraid it's alot more complicated than that.

It doesn't matter whether the medium is a traditional orchestra or a VST orchestra, it's all about the composition, and in that regard Jeremy Soule is equal to his "real" contemporaries.

Kraftwerk always consisted of four nerds in three piece suits standing behind keyboards, and yet they are widely adored in the music world for inventing elektro pop. Real intruments are by no means a must if you want to make great tunes.

Agreed, Jeremy Soule is one of the great composers of our age, comparable to Nobuo Uematsu, the renowned composer of most of the Final Fantasy series' musical portfolio. Both these people can succeed in making a game twice as enjoyable through their composition. (GWF's biggest saving grace is the music and Uematsu's compositions are one of the few reasons I still play old Final Fantasy games.)

Music in a game is important to me, just as music is probably the single most important hobby of mine, so congratulations, Jeremy, you deserve all the credit you get. Infact, when I heard that Prey's music was being scored by Mr. Soule, I considered buying it on the spot, even though, I normally dislike FPS type games.

Nobuo Uematsu is overrated and an idiot.

Koji Kondo and Harry Gregson-Williams FTW!!!

As far as jeremy soule goes, hes pretty good. his oblivion score sucked though. Have you heard the one he did for morrowind? NOW THAT WAS MUSIC.

I also liked his work on KOTOR, icewind dale and so on...

wow I guess you should win the most ignorent poster award. It really doesnt matter what medium you use cause you still have to create each song in the first place.

somthing that you cant do, and probably never will.

Koji is the MAN. But I wonder if he is kin to Hiroaki "x86" Kondo. Capcom wouldn't be anywhere without his musical guidance.

There is a link to direct song at the bottom of the main page. There's no need to direct link, the effort is to get people to see a main site, and move from there, sometimes the people will visit more than just the songpacks, that is the goal here^^.
