You get 4 if you create a separate account, or +2 if linked to another chapter, also +1 if you get the pre-order on Sept.15.

WAIT A MINUTE AS A PREORDER DOES NOT GET THE EXTRA SLOT
you have to BUY the retail prerelease package (5 dollars at amazon and check other offers) to get the bonus slot.
this PRERELEASE RETAIL BOX will be on store shelves Sept 15 according to the GW main site news announcement
this is not related to a preorder which reserves a game copy in any way
some stores may combine the packages such as Gamestop calling it a STARTER KIT and charging 5 dollars more than the game separately

Actually Gaile said some places will give it away free when you preorder and others will charge extra. It is completely upto the retailer. So you might get a slot free with preorder.

true but it still has to include that prerelease box as part of the deal as that box has your slot code in it.
which is why i am waiting til the 15th when it comes out to see who makes the best deal

The Pre Release is bundled with the standard version from EB Games. So you get three slots if you buy the bundle.
The CE version would have the normal 2 slots.
Is the Pre Release going to be sold on it's own. so that players who buy the CE can also purchase a Pre Release, for a totalof 3 slots as well?

it is already being sold (preorder) at amazon for 5 dollars plus s/h
expect everyone else to start selling it as well or part of a discounted bundle when everybody has it to sell

the prerelease will be on DVD not cd.
it will be out more than a month before Nightfall so that does not figure in at all.
the game will be usually shipped a bit early so it gets to MOST people on time.
i always go 2nd day and get next day service as a wherehouse is only 10 miles from here

It's the number in the prerelease that gives you access to the preorder weapons and an additional character slot. If retailers are exploiting Anet's generousity it's rather funny to me, if they won't give me my prerelease package free like they did with the other titles, I will buy the prerelease from them and buy the game direct from Anet online.
If the retailers want to sell things that they're getting for free, they must not realize how much buisiness they can potentially lose this way. I'd buy the entire retail package provided my local retailer doesn't want to lose my buisiness by trying to make me pay extra for the preorder package.
I realize it's the retailers choice, and if they make the wrong one I'll be doing all my buisiness with Anet online, I never use the CDs anyway.

The bonus character slot for the prerelease bonus pack will not be added to your account until you add your actual retail key for Nightfall.

OH i see now so we can buy the Prerealse Pack seperate from the GW Nightfall. So i can buy the Prerealse pack on Sept 16 then when GW Nigthfall comes out on oct 27 i can go buy that and put the number from my Prerealease Pack in? So basically i can buy Prerealse Pack without ever buying Nightfall if i want?

You can put the prerelease code in as soon as you get it but the slot isn't put into effect until you add the retail key(full version of Nightfall). You should be able to get the prerelease pack without buying the full game but remember that if you don't buy Nightfall, all you'd be getting is a special spear and scythe that you'll do like 2 dmg with.

To be fair, we don't know for sure Anet's policy on this for Nightfall. They may have found out Best Buy was selling their free Faction pre-order for $10, and decided they want in on the action!
My guess is they would get a % of the sale price of the pre-release, if the retailer charges one.

Bestbuy really wasn't making a profit off them as they deducted the 10 bucks from the full version of the game. But I, and likely many others, didn't feel like standing in the long line at the customer service counter to get the 10 bucks deducted so I just paid the full price. The only reason I always get it from Bestbuy is that you can just go grab it off the shelf yourself instead of arguing for half an hour with clerks that don't know what's going on.
