I had alot of fun monking for this pvp weekend.... I found it very different to monk in 6ppl party than 8ppl party because I had to run hybrid prot+heal builds. Also it was very fun playing against highly ranked guilds/grps
Besides playing GW 10hrs/day this weekend getting my next emote (missed few parties >.>) I also met alot of good players and built a great friendlist =D
GG double fame weekend!

You didn't look hard enough, sure there was plenty of vimway/iway, but also a lot of balanced parties, as well as monk, henchies, blood spike, ant-vimway, and many others to choose from. I made vimway/Iway, but had been in many varous parties as well and earn a good amount of fame.
Considering that the most fame I had before this weekend was 3, and I have had the game since before it came out.
I bitched about how unfair it was before, but I guess I was being closed mined, I now appresate the different builds for HA, and plan on trying more of them out, it's been fun so far!

I really like this event, and I wish they could open an area for 6x6; however I think the 8x8 opens more space to balanced builds to work around their skill sets, and that 6x6 still limited winning builds to certain final guildlines, such as smiting, or degens. Traps also proved to be really annoying, and I dont mean the vimway groups, because they are really not a threat. I was happy seeing that necro spikes took a break as well. This weekend, unranked people who never liked to join a group playing iway, trapper, necro and recently spirits ritualists had a chance to have some fun. On the other side, the high ranked mafia will now have reasons to require rank9+ to be "worth" in their party. My point is, those who are dedicated to gvg combats and had it as priority won't find a place for hoh, and the rank gap will still grow. Further on, for me, even more after this event, rank doesn't mean skill.

So, in the start it was a new mix of balanced builds. There was creativity. Then, of course, people adapted. Vimway. and almost nothing else. the occasional dual smite popped in, and a rare balanced, but like 90% of the time it was vimway
sad. I was liking all the forced change in the beginning

People complain about vimway, but it's incredibly easy to beat. Every time we played it, we would beat it soundly, and I hardly ever saw it in halls. Every time I looked, there was something different. People just got too caught up in the whole "vimway is the new iway" to realize that it just plain sucks. It was this vicious cycle of stupidity where people say "looking for vimway players" so everyone assumes it's the hot new build and makes their characters and says "looking for vimway group", which just adds to the illusion of effectiveness. I mean if everyone is doing it, it has to be good right?
Dumb people playing ineffective builds is not a failing of the game type.

Coming from a PvE'er, I had a blast. Got 170 fame in about 5 hours. I didn't know what to expect, but it was great to see what PvP was about. I rolled with guildies until the weee hours of the morning. Then I pugged it with success. The matches were fast and fun. Well, except those relic runs.
Who can turn down double fame? Plus the fact there were many new players for the regular PvP people to pick on, me included.
What I saw was alot of dual smite, balanced, vimway. I saw why vimway is so popular, the setup takes maybe 2 minutes. Vent/TS is not necessary as well. I enjoyed playing with the guild. It was a great event, and maybe it hooked another PvE'er to play more PvP.
If they ever had this event again, you can count me in!

I too, come from a PvE background. After some bad experiences in PvP I was going to steer clear of HA this weekend, but I got sucked into all the hype and went in anyway. I have to admit, I had more fun than I expected. Since VIMWAY seemed to be the most popular, I rolled an IWAY warrior and that’s where I got most of my fame. For those of you screaming "NOOB!" Yeah, I am at PvP so shut up.
I played about 4 hours total this weekend and got 100 fame (from 0). Last night I decided to try something other than VIMWAY, so I rolled a Starburst ele and got in to a couple Starburst groups. Maybe I just got into bad groups, but I got ZERO fame playing Starburst. I doubt I’ll try that again, but I may go for a balanced group…if anyone will have me.
To sum up, I'll probably go back again. I'm only 80 fame away from getting a bambie. That's about the only thing I haven't accomplished in GW yet, so why not?

Being mainly a pve player with a little gvg thrown in for kicks,
decided to try some HA over the weekend and have some fun.
I played for 2 hours in pugs on the european servers, I have
never saw so many flashing animals in my life!!!!
I came out the same way I went in, still at one fame point,
lost every single match, man I sux at Halls, tried IWAY a little,
but not very famailiar with running the build. I hope most ppl
enjoyed the event, seemed to go over well, with Europe holding
halls most of the time.

Seriously, after I fought my first ViMway group my thoughts were... "That was it?"

Well, I went back last night after it went back to the same old fame and 8v8. For me, it was as bad as before. Someone dies and they immediately rage quit. Not once, but several times. The last time I went in, I was literally the last person left in my group because everyone else quit and still stood my ground for a long time. What a bunch of wimps and babies.
No, I'm not going back. I don't need that kind of aggravation.

Maybe it's time to stop playing VIMWAY or IWAY (judging from your pervious post.... i assume that's what u played in 8men).
If you really want to have fun in PVP in HA, you should join a nice & active PVP guild that does various builds in HA. I am sure my guild has a policy against ragequitters

You're right Misa. I was doing both. I had rolled a Rit Lord, but stood around for an hour trying to get a group, so I went back to an IWAY warrior just so I could play.

I hope you learn a lesson WoodyDotNet for playiing just IWAY, they are called noobs and there is a good reason for that.
Playing IWAY is a vicious circle that you must break the sooner the better.
I had alot of fun, you know why, because ALL IWAY noobs were doing IWAY with Vim and vimmers were doing Vim and youk now what that meant, the IWAY and Vimway got double FAME at THE SLOWEST RATE, thats what I liked the most, I must admit 80% of my 600 fame cmae beating sorry Vimway and iway nubs, and some of my freinds woh were like R2 playing balanced easily surpassed Iway Noobs. IWAY and VIMMERs lost the most in this event.
You see the thingi s many people we beat often rage quited from their vim groups, Vim / Iway isnt as good as it is in 8 v8 so one must expect so humiliating defeats to trigger rage quits, it was great to see them fall apart, wonderfull
6v6 is great, more emphasis on player skills rather than just cookie cutters. GG

Ahh, who cares what people played, so long as they played. Was good to see a lot of activity in the halls, regardless of what it was. Vim, or Iway, as lame as people think they are, and frankly, even the naysayers of those builds have played them before, still managed to topple highly ranked teams and guilds. So, if it worked, and people were getting fame from it, more power to them. If they want to continue on, earning fame at a decent rate, they will adapt, or settle for a few maps here and there. Who cares.. It's a game, have fun.

QFT,
People were having a blast, and that should always be the most important reason to play. I talked with some older pvp'ers and some of them were grumpy with the thing that new players got their rank from zilch to six in no time. Well, who cares , as long as we all are having fun battling against each other.
