Default Orr, a thought.

In another thread in the nightfall discussion forum the location of Orr was discussed. GuildWiki was cited as being the source for the correct location of Orr. I believe this location (located on the Tyrian map) is incorrect. Allow me to present the points of my theory, and please read my entire posting before you reply.

Most likely incorrect. Although a good guess, the lore quite clearly states otherwise.

Situated on a peninsula south of Ascalon and southwest of the Crystal Desert
The common belief that Orr is located on the Tyrian map as previously pointed out is prepetuated because of it's impact crater like setup. There is no place in the lore that describes the cataclysm as a meteor or "death from above". All it states is that the Vizier destroyed Orr, and that only a few small islands remain.

Quote:
The king’s own personal advisor in the matters of the arcane took it upon himself to destroy the invaders, no matter the cost. Unrolling one of the Lost Scrolls, kept inside a warded vault deep within the catacombs below Arah, he spoke the words of a litany that spelled the end of the Kingdom of Orr forever.

There are few who survived that day, now known as the Cataclysm. While the Charr were never allowed to step foot in Arah, few count what the king’s advisor did on that day as a victory. The resulting explosion felled the invading army where it stood, but so too did it sink the entire peninsula, leaving only a scattering of small islands in its place.
There is a chain of Islands on the Elonian map which would fit the description of Orr properly. It is situated just north of Istan, southwest of the Crystal Desert, just west off the coast of Elona. Pay attention to the shallow water outline of that island chain, it suggests the Islands are connected via underwater land mass. Also notice how the color and texture of that landmass is different from anything around it, or anywhere else in Elona for that matter, since other islands match the mainland something had to of caused this island chain to be drastically different. Perhaps the Cataclysm? Who knows, but that's my theory.

Three main problems with this assumption that I can see...

One, the land of Orr is listed in the lore for Tyria only. If it were pertinent to any other chapter, we wouldn't have the lore in Tyria, despite it's importance to the storyline, since Cantha and Elona are equally pertinent. By this I mean it's considered one of the "Three Human Kingdoms" of Tyria.

Two, it says "peninsula", and what you have circled could in no way, no matter how you imagine it, be a peninsula. If it were a part of the land at one time, it would just be a small hump, if not, an island.

Three, yes it says "Southwest", and although it appears to be just west of what we know of as the explorable Crystal Desert, there is a good chunk of desert to the North of that. There could also be a lot more further East and even North of that. Therefore, that peninsula shown on the Orr wiki link could still be considered "Southwest" of the desert.

Not to mention, the southern part of the desert could be considered "Elona", since it borders it. Perhaps most of the Crystal Desert is simply inhabitable, and we just don't have it on the map because it's not explorable.

Your theory also doesn't explain why or how the Orrian soldiers get to Kryta all the way from Elona. or for that matter, how the Charr got to Elona to cause the trouble in the first place.
